    Inside Bangkok Egg Roll
    Jason P.

A couple of years ago, a random Guy messaged me on Yelp after I reviewed a Thai restaurant based solely on its house special Pad Thai with different proteins and wontons. He said "You can't review a restaurant just for its Pad Thai." That Guy, is going to hate this review. Yesterday, I was holiday-shopping at the Riverdale Shops, and said to myself, I could really go for some Thai Style Egg Rolls. So I walked into Somewhere in Bangkok and ordered their Bangkok Egg Rolls. The person who helped me was very nice. My order was ready very quickly. While I was waiting, I had enough time to explore the restaurant and saw that the atmosphere was very cool. The order included four golden fried egg rolls stuffed with veggies and glass noodles. They were what some might call thin-tubed Spring Roll shaped. The outer texture was great. Nice and crispy, and the shell broke in a cool way. The veggie filling had good flavor and texture. The sweet and sour dipping sauce was tasty. Top tier Thai Style Egg Rolls. This experience met my expectations in every way. 5 Stars. Sorry Guy.

I first discovered this searching for a cozy spot in Avon that was a little different from the usual fare. It quickly became my personal favorite for authentic, flavorful Thai food. If they have ripe mangoes available, this is my top pick. I order it at a solid "level 4 spicy" on their 1-5 scale. The balance of the rich coconut milk, the fiery kick, and the sweet mango chunks is culinary perfection. Vegetarian ramen typically features a savory vegetarian broth with noodles and various vegetables. The portion size is huge we shared 1 by 4 ppl and still had leftovers. Honestly felt like a home cooked meal If you're in the area and craving vibrant, fresh Thai food, Somewhere In Bangkok is the spot. Don't skip grabbing a bubble tea on your way out--the Vietnamese Coffee boba is the perfect sweet ending to a spicy meal. It feels less like a restaurant and more like a dependable friend who always serves up a great meal.

A nice find of a Thai place....hidden away at the foot hills of Talcottville. Quaint tucked away...seemed like a local fav. Everything we had was great. I asked to make my crispy lad na with pork at heat 15 if the restaurant peak was at 5 and yes they did oblige...it was awesome! Will be their regular for sure. Great service as well. Asked for some crispy noodles and yes she did.

Takeout Review: Somewhere in Bangkok is an authentic Thai restaurant located in Connecticut. They have locations in Avon and Southington. Thai food is typically very flavorful; they use multiple spices and fresh ingredients to bring out the salty, sour, sweet, hot and bitter flavors. They have a vast menu with plenty of options and spice levels. They also offer boba tea drinks. It was a cold and rainy day so we decided to do takeout from there. I am usually a pad Thai or curry dish lover, it's my go-to, but decided on the chicken Pad See Ew this time around to mix it up. It's a stir fried flat rice noodle dish with broccoli, eggs, garlic, and soy sauce. The portion size was average and the flavor was robust. Next time, I look forward to trying out their pad Thai, panang curry, sweet chili wings, and panang fried rice, to name a few. Overall, it's a great Thai restaurant offering quality ingredients and delectable flavors.

Delish! Got take out & didn't know that they offered boba as it was my first time - luckily they accept apple pay! Cashier was kind. Cute little eggroll too!

Me and my partner were craving Thai, and we were so glad to have chosen to his place. Walking in, the restaurant is bright, wonderfully decorated, and were greeted and seated almost immediately. The service was quick. Everything was properly timed, I hate it when restaurants barrage you with food that would get cold since you can really only eat one thing at once. We ordered the Tom Kha Kai (Coconut Soup) It was delicious, we ordered it super extra spicy and they delivered the perfect amount of heat. The broth was sweet and coconutty, the chicken was tender. for the small portion it was enough for two people to share as an appetizer with some extra to fight over after lol. For my entree I chose the Bangkok Noodles, almost like a pad see ew but with less soy, and the lettuce underneath was a great touch to kind of offset all the carbs of the rice noodles and gave a fresh crunch to the dish along with the crispy noodles on top. Overall the dish was sweet, savory and of course I made it extra spicy because I just love it that way. I love when a restaurant has the proper condiments for their patrons who know how to eat southeast asian cuisine. I enjoyed this restaurant and food experience very much, I highly recommend and I definitely will be back to try some more!!

I'm impressed with the quality and variety of the food here. The dining room has cool decorations and a calm vibe. The staff is caring and honest. The curries here are great. I also enjoyed the Bangkok noodle, which not many other Thai restaurants have around this area.

Omg, I stumbled upon this place after a long bike ride and I couldn't have been happier! The mango curry with tofu was out of this world with a whole damn mango sitting on top! The server checking me out took the time to make my boba tea less sweetened as I requested and it was out of this world! The mango sticky rice was so delish and the tofu fresh rolls were perfectly crunchy! All of the food was fresh and the perfect temp/spice! I can't wait to return!

This is our favorite Thai restaurant in the Avon area so far. It caught our eye while exploring other places in that plaza. It has indoor and outdoor seating, which is really nice. The indoor decorationngas a thai ethnic touch but also still has easter decor right now. We were seated and served very quickly. The volcano shrimp was perfectly crisp on the outside and tender inside. Pad Thai and Drunken noodle were both well seasoned. We haven't seen drunken noodle with pork belly before, which was definitely a special addition. I was curious about the thai custard, which I've never tried before. It's not really my thing, but the sticky rice that accompanies it is perfect and probably will get sticky rice and mango next time. Can't wait to come back to try some other things on their menu!

The Asian restaurant scene in the Farmington Valley continues to change. There was a pretty good one in the Walmart Plaza in Avon named Green Bamboo, they replaced Chang An which was there for decades. Well, Green Bamboo just closed another Asian place is stepping up to the plate. In Avon's Riverdale Farms Plaza, there was a short-lived Thai restaurant named Ekkalak that has now been replaced by a very familiar name -Somewhere in Bangkok. They've been a very successful Southington restaurant for years. Anyway, we checked them out a few nights ago and sure enjoyed our food. There is a very ambitious menu to navigate - 21 appetizers, 8 salads, 12 soups, plus a zillion noodle and stir fry and curry and specials to tempt you. Plus, desserts, cakes and milk and fruit teas. Their menu really is an embarrassment of riches. We split a Chicken Satay appetizer and I have to tell you how wonderful it was. For $8.95 we got three big plump skewers of seasoned chicken served with an amazing peanut sauce and diced crunchy cucumber salad. We loved it. My wife went for a Chicken Pad That ($14.95) which she liked a lot but wished it had been a little "saucier". I went for Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) with Pork (also $14.95). When I asked for it to be "spicy" it led to a conversation on the restaurant's numbering convention for spice. They use a 1-5 range, and I learned that 2 is mild, so five would be nuclear Thai style. I went with a three, and I thanked the Lord Almighty I didn't go to a four, because three was on my tipping point between hot/enjoyable and hot/inedible. I loved my dish -super spicy pork with egg, onion, green peppers, broccoli, basil, and flat rice noodles. Seriously, it was one of the best dishes I've had in months. The Asian food market is super competitive in the Valley, but in my opinion, Somewhere in Bangkok has muscled their way to the top of the heap.

Decent papaya salad, although not the one we ordered.

I don't know at what restaurant the previous reviewer ate. For my experience, the moral of the story is NOT "good things come to those who wait" Service: arrived 715. Water was brought 7:30. Ordered then as well. One of the appetizers came at 8:30, which was a shame not only because we were hungry but they brought the wrong appetizer. We ate it anyway since we were hungry. The other appetizer never came. I would give them a pass on the service because of Covid, and new restaurant and crowded night, but there were too many missteps. 3 generous stars for service. Think about it. I give them three stars for wrong food and a meal that took way too long. I'm a nice person! Food: the appetizer we didn't order, Thai papaya salad was actually good. We made sure to tell them of our gluten issues, but they neglected to tell us all the protein in the dishes we ordered was breaded and fried. The whole snapper in garlic sauce was cooked to death, almost inedible. The sauce was good and the vegetables were raw. The Jungle Curry, which is supposed to feature eggplant, had 2 undercooked small pieces of undercooked Asian eggplant. The broth/curry was watery and tasteless. Then there was the overcooked deep fried salmon in the Jungle Curry that had the texture of chicken because it was so over cooked. And then the Pad Thai. It had been sitting so long out on the counter and bit served to us that it coagulated and you needed a forklift to eat it. Also, unlike Ekkalak pad thai which was the best outside of Thailand we've ever had, there was zero flavor- no tamarind, no lime, minimal peanuts. We tried to improve it by putting it in the tasteless Jungle broth. Zero stars for food. We mourn the loss of Ekkalak which was a family run place that was a standard in our household. This place is a "never again."

I've been wanting to try The Elephant Trail for at least four years now…read more So today, after running some errands in Simsbury and Canton, I pulled in for lunch. I was greeted warmly, and my neighbor and I were seated in a lovely booth by the window. Iced water was poured into the glasses that were sitting on the table, and lunch menus were placed in front of us No munchies or sauce were served while I was perusing the menu I placed my order for an order of chicken wings for the appetizer, and for $16.95, I ordered chicken and garlic sauce with white rice, along with hot and spicy soup and two small egg rolls My neighbor ordered a shrimp and Thai sauce lunch. Within five minutes, the chicken wings arrived 8 in total, which included 4 flats and 4 drumettes These chicken wings were seasoned perfectly, and then deep-fried to a golden brown. A beautiful spicy Thai sauce was served on the side. I could've made a meal out of these. These were some of the best chicken wings I've ever had in my 65 years here on earth. The Tom Young soup arrived, and it wasn't what I was expecting, boy was this thing sour and as soon as I hate it, I went whoa, the waitress saw that I didn't like it and offered to exchange it for Mayo soup which I gladly did. The miso soup was delicious seasoning so nicely with basil. So far, I am experiencing perfection. The dinners arrived, and buy garlic, chicken and vegetables with white rice was OK. It wasn't great, but don't get me wrong. It wasn't bad at all. I would've liked to see more garlic sauce, and maybe a little bit more spicy. Instead, it was rather bland. My neighbor loved the Thai shrimp and vegetable vegetables Restrooms were clean, and I loved the ambience, Thai casual. The total with the tip was just over $54. I am really on the fence if this is the best Thai in Connecticut or close to it. So far no. But I would gladly come here again because this would be a top five in the Avon Valley area. I love the experience, and our server gave us extraordinary service. This was a great experience. I just wish the main course was a little bit more seasoned. I will come here in the future and try a different dish

It has some hometown charm with a relatively large menu. We enjoyed the pad woon sen (flavorful), tamarind duck (crispy), fried rice, vegetable soup (healthy and nice broth that wasn't too salty), and lemongrass stir fry with tofu. The entrees are about $16-20 each. The sauce for the pad thai wasn't our favorite and tasted a bit too sweet. We also enjoyed the crispy spring rolls with taro and nonsteamed spring rolls. We would pass on the hot tea next time as it was just a regular tea bag. Service was welcoming. The space looks like a small two-story home with a few tables inside. Reservations are probably necessary since the place isn't big. They have a private parking lot so finding a spot is easy. Since it's on a busy road, making a left turn leaving can be a pain.

Today was my birthday, so my dinner spot of choice meant a return here to experience a meal at the newish Charming Thai Restaurant. And we left a few hours later agreeing that this place is fantastic. Soon after we were seated, we met Jessica, who was our principal server. She was an absolute delight with a fantastic personality. She started off with some complimentary noodles and sweet duck sauce. The menu is extensive, with most of the traditional Thai favorites, so think Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Fried Rices, Lo Meins, and Pad See-Ew. Other groupings include Chef Specials, Classic Entrees, Curries, and a full slate of appetizers, salads, soups, Pho, and Ramens. When you go through their menu, the various combinations of entrée and protein choices are in the 200 range. So pretty much anyone can eat their favorite Asian food here. We started off with a cup of Wonton Soup (with 6 big wontons) and a cup of Tom Kha Soup with two big shrimp at $5.99 each. The Tom Kha had a mild coconut taste, but I don't mean that in a negative way. I order this a lot, and some places really load up on the coconut flavor so much that the soup resembles a strong thick ice cream topping. Their soup was thinner than some but had enough flavor that it was fantastic. Oh, and those two plump shrimps in my bowl were perfect. We split an $8 order of six pork pot stickers, and they were cooked beautifully without a hint of grease and stuffed with a nice ground pork filling. For our main meal we split a $15.99 order of Chicken Pad Thai. We ordered it mild, but since I like spice, I asked for some extra zip on the side and Jessica brought out a cute little twin dish of Sriracha sauce and Sichuan pepper powder to ramp up the firepower. We loved the Pad Thai, it had plenty of chicken, the noodles were well cooked, and most of all it was sauced perfectly. Not too dry, not too wet, but just perfect. As we were paying our bill, the fact that it was my birthday came up, and Jessica made us promise not to leave yet because she wanted to give me something. That turned out to be a complimentary dish of sweet coconut rice with sliced mango. The portions were so generous that some of the Tom Kha and Pad Thai are now in our refrigerator for tomorrow. Thank you, Jessica, and JJ who tag-teamed us tonight, and here's a special shout-out to Lucy who made the magic happen in the kitchen. The food, the service, the value, and the atmosphere were all exceptional. If you like Thai food as much as we do, head on out to Route 4 and treat yourself to a charming dinner experience at Charming Thai.
