Service is trash. Food is great. You're best off ordering out so you don't have to deal with the rude waitress that works there with the tattoos. She is very arrogant and unprofessional and will ruin your calm mood if you go in there for lunch. I frequently eat here because I love the food even before the new owner took over (I preffered my buddy who used to own it as the food was a lot more flavorful) now the food isn't the exact same but the pricing also went up. I've been eating here for YEARs and have never been treated this way as I was today by a person working in customer service. Ghetto. Horrible service. I used to love and enjoy coming here and it was a comforting lunch spot for me. However today I was treated very rudely and unprofessional by the waitress. I didn't catch her name but she was very rude and had tattoos on her and seemed annoyed to be doing her job. If you go here, ask for the owner to take your order because YIKES. It's a shame to say that Thai Kitchen a couple years ago is a 4 star, however today it's the opposite. Thai Kitchen has fell from the heavens of higher ranking restaurants in the Porterville area and has went down in everything. First, their prices increased which was shocking. Then came the slimmed out portion sizes which they became skimpy on. Lastly, the quality of food isn't the same. Not sure if management changed or ownership, but it's fell off BAD! Last note, I went there 3 years ago on a dine in experience and it was bug infested, like literally bugs crawling everywhere. Hope the place changes, but it's sitting at a 1. Wow, the food here is so delicious. We really enjoyed the vegetable spring rolls, almost a meal in themselves, with both dipping sauces. Salt and pepper cod, and spicy green bean dishes were also exceptional. Fresh ingredients, perfect flavoring which exceeded our expectations. The service was also very good. So we were not happy when this place changed owners the recipes were just not the same. We gave it a try tonight. We were excited because I feel like the old recipes are back! . You can definitely taste the difference. The chili oil has that toasty flavour again & is edible hear wise. yellow curry has potato and depth of flavour again. We ordered the pho and stir fry green beans. The pho was alright. It had tons of noodles and very little seafood. My husband stir fry was okay too. Wished the meat was on the tender side but it wasn't. The service was good. Our waitress was friendly and came to check up on us. But the bathroom and the restaurant itself it's very dirty. They were a lot of cluttered of dirt on the corners and a lot beneath the table legs. It was pretty disgusting and the bathroom was unbelievably disgusting. This is the only Thai Restaurant in Porterville. It will have to do because there is no other Thai place in this town. It is also not fair to compare this place with the restaurants in LA, which have a lot of competition. In that context, important for me to order the dishes they do well. I generally get carry out. While there are many stir fry Thai dishes, and soups, most of them taste similar and do not have distinguishing features of flavor. However, their Thai curries are good and their Penang curry is top notch (I had it with beef). You will also not be disappointed with their Red curry. I have these curries during as their lunch specials (7-days a week) which also come with steamed rice and salad. We visit while in town for the refreshing Mango salad, but today, everyone tried a different dish. The Tom Jeud looks simple but was pretty flavorful. The fried rice was really tasty. The fried chicken was super crispy while still being juicy. The dipping sauce for the chicken was tangy, sweet, and a bit spicy. After seeing someone online eating a soup with chicken and vegetables in coconut milk, I decided to check out the menu here to see if anything looked like what they had. There were a couple of things that sounded close but I ended up ordering the yellow curry with chicken and the Goong Tod (fried shrimp). Delivery was fairly quick I just had time to cook rice in my instant pot since I forgot to order any before it arrived. The shrimp was just slightly overdone and the first one I had did have a slight burnt taste but once I used the included sauce it was MUCH better. The menu says the sauce is a sweet and sour sauce but it is not very sweet, it had a ginger flavor to it (I think) and it tasted very good. Curry had a pleasant mild flavor, if you are new to curry this is a good place to start especially if spices aren't you thing. I do recommend ordering rice as well since it is not included with the curry. Good sized portions; the curry came in one of those large clear soup containers and there were plenty of leftovers. We searched high and low for a place to enjoy boba tea today, but every place we went to was either closed or had inaccurate website descriptions about their Thai tea availability. After visiting a total of 5 places, we were pleased to find out that not only was Thai Kitchen open, but they had boba! The drinks are cheap and delicious, and though we did not order food the menu looks tasty and we will be trying it next time. This was so gross! Please keep away. I ordered the chicken pho and they tried tu pass this as chicken. It looked more like pork disguised as chicken. The meet was very here when I tried touching it. I was after if if eating it because of course it looks nothing like chicken. I asked the waitress and she said that it was made out of chicken thighs, which made me even pre suspicious because it should have been super tender. Usually all the places I go to, if you order a meal like curry, or other Asian main dishes they come with rice?? Am I wrong? Anyways we were told that it doesn't come with rice. Like nachos without cheese, or hot dogs without a bun. Made no sense to me. So what do you do. I ordered a white rice, almost 6 bucks for a container of rice? Are you out of your mind...I guess I was stuck, with curry and no rice..had to pay the rice mafia their asking price...LOL... that was very sad in my book. We are long time customers. Years. Many years since shortly after opening. We went as a group of 6 women. They Lindsay us in the back room where it was warmer without the breeze each time the door opened. We ordered and our food came within a reasonable amount of time. I noticed that the noodles in my curry soup were not the usual rice noodles but the flavor was still good. Two of us wanted coconut shrimp which were still on the menu but they no longer make. I ordered tea which I shared with one other. Then found out they charged us each $3 for tea. I can't remember paying for tea before at other restaurants. It's kinda like a freebie for ordering an entree. Like getting complimentary chips and salsa. We did have a pleasant time. Friend time. Nice. The issue came when we were paying. We were charged a higher price than the menu stated. And a $3 gratuity was added because of being 6. Without telling us. We are all accustomed to tipping so we would have tipped. We just felt this was a bit deceptive. I was pulling out my tip when that realization came so we would have each tipped twice. It's just sad when what you enjoy changes like it has with other popular restaurants in town that have now lost business over those changes. We wish them well and hope they work it out. We have been coming here for years. We have always enjoyed the eggplant stir fry and their curries. Well, I guess they have new owners because the menu and food have changed. They no longer have the eggplant stirfry. They do have a dish called 'Eggplant Delight' which we decided to try. We also ordered the beef salad and the red curry with chicken. The red curry came first. This was lacking in flavor. Very little curry taste, just a prominent coconut flavor from the coconut milk used in the sauce. We were not asked by the waitress for a spice level on our food; this was very bland. The Eggplant Delight was described as a mix of ground chicken & shrimp served in a creamy red curry sauce over roasted eggplant. This dish looked extremely unappetizing... more like a plate of gruel than an entree. It was literally a shallow plate of thick, gloppy sauce. There were a few streaks of eggplant puree throughout the dish, but no noticeable eggplant flavor. It tasted better than it looked and actually had more curry flavor than the red curry. It was extremely unremarkable, I wouldn't order it again. The beef salad was the best item we tried. It had a decent level of spice and flavor. It was a little short on lettuce for a salad dish, but there was a generous amount of beef and lots of fresh mint leaves. Service was fine, nothing spectacular. The table is set with napkins and a fork only. We had to ask for spoons, even though we ordered a curry dish, which comes with a rather soupy sauce. Would it really hurt to just put out spoons as well as forks for your customers? Overall, not a great meal. I'd try different dishes next time, but we probably won't return. read more
