My favourite Asian-styled cuisine! I will shamelessly admit that my boyfriend and I have come here at least once a month over the past 5 years - whether it's for a light lunch or a date night - we adore this place. Firstly, I'd like to address the decor: it is gorgeous! Unlike many other Thai restaurants in Halifax (many of which have plain, blank walls, and minimal decor), this entire restaurant is filled with beautiful figurines, mini waterfalls, and flowers. The place is decked out in gorgeous Thai-themed objects, prints, and designs. For some who may not have a taste for culturally unfamiliar interior decor, this may come across as "tacky" - but for me, the decor is everything! Second, the food: The menu is ENDLESS. There is something for everyone. If you think Thai food isn't for you, or don't necessarily have a taste for Asian cruisine, don't worry! For their "Americanized" dishes, they have familiar dishes such as deep-fried chicken wings (and BBQ chicken), french fries, nuggets, calamari, stirfry, spring rolls, and a variation of soups and salads. If this is your first time, I strongly recommend you try the pad thai. It has certainly been the Thai dish that has stolen the hearts of many first-timers - including myself! Recently, the curry dishes have been top notch! Definitely would recommend. Also: portion sizes are plentiful so you never leave with a dissatisfied stomach! Last but not least, the staff: It appears to me that this is a family-run establishment. The staff are always enthusiastic, polite, and most certainly generous. Ordering a wine that they are almost out of? Don't worry! They'll run to the store to buy more within seconds (even if you insist on accepting a different wine!!!). If you ever have questions regarding the menu - or anything at all - they do not hesitate to answer with full honesty and interest! Needless to say, dining at Thai Ivory is without doubt an experience. The only negative I must say is that I was heartbroken after the closing of the Quinpool location (though I believe driving to the Bedford highway for a bowl of curry is well worth it). They do not get enough business for what they deserve! This may partly be because of the location - or that Thai cuisine may not be the most current food trend on everyone's minds. We usually order from another place but our regular place was closed so we thought we would try Thai Ivory. It was $3 more expensive for the Pad thai so we thought maybe it was bigger or better. Well it was neither. First disappointment was no peanuts. Then we were shocked at how small the container was. Almost half of our usual place. Then we opened them and there were lots of huge pieces of broccoli and carrots. So basically filler in an already small portion. I would love to say it was fantastic and it was worth it but a week later we still had most of it sitting in the fridge and threw it out. Such a disappointment. We learned our lesson. read more

Enjoyed a variety of fresh dishes. The Tom Yum was superb Papaya salad yummy and the red curry smooth and flavourful, as well as pad thai served with freshy bean sprouts and peanuts. I have been to all the Thai restaurants in this city, and for sure you won t be disapointed. Lovely decore, peaceful and zen like, super clean bathrooms, hospitable staff and loved the Uniforms! Super pretty! A lovely assortment of quality authentic foods! I think the prices are fair to very good, the service is good and the food is excellent. I don t know why it took this long to go. This was my first time at this location of Thai ivory. The décor is very similar to the Quinpool locale which is very lovely, elegant and culturally pleasing. Thai Ivory is one of my all time favourite restaurants because the food is incredible, almost everything can be made vegan and you get huge portions for the cost. The Bedford locations food wasn't quite as good as Quinpool but still tasty. And the service wasn't as good either. The waitress we had a hard time understanding us and we never did get the drink we asked for 3 times. It is great to have a vegan friendly restaurant closer in Bedford. read more

Thai Ivory Cuisine is one of the very few Asian restaurants in Bedford and I wanted a quick take-away dinner for 1. The tiny portion of Pad Thai was not a good value and it was waaaay too sweet. The mango salad and calamari were okay, but again, portioned into miniscule containers. Very over-priced for the amount of food you receive. I also question the cleanliness of this place and hygiene practices of the staff. There are far more satisfying options that offer better food and value in Halifax.. A short drive is worth it for better quality. read more

The atmosphere was the only nice thing about the place. The service was sub-par; the staff couldn't seem more eager to be done with us. They gave me a wrong dish, then proceeded to only pick out the wrong parts of the dish and replaced the correct sides. They also forgot repeated several of our requests and did not check on us during our meal. They hung out in the back kitchen while I tried to get their attention to fix my order. The food was alright, but the poor service made it really hard to enjoy. I'd go to other Thai restaurants before I come back here. read more

We were a little uncertain when we pulled up, as Thai Ivory is attached to a shady motel in Bedford. However, the decor was beautiful inside. The wait staff was a little slow to take our order, but friendly. The menus are sheets of paper in a binder, by the way, which doesn't look great but definitely holds a vast number of options!! I had the Thai Massaman Curry, which our waiter recommended, and it was awesome. The rice portion was small but I ended up bringing half my curry home for lunch the next day. My husband initially ordered the pineapple curry, but our waiter recommended the yellow curry instead, so my husband changed his order. The yellow curry had huge chunks of pineapple along with vegetables, and he special ordered it spicy. I found it very spicy but he wished it had been a little spicier. He still enjoyed it very much, though. We also shared an order of vegetable spring rolls, which were amazing, and the sauce they came with was sweeter than I've usually had and tasted great with the rolls. For dessert we had ice cream with fruit, which came with Asian fruits like lychee. It was great! I also had a glass of the house Merlot with dinner and it was the best house wine I have ever had anywhere. Each of our entrees cost about $13, which is about average for this area (I'm American but my husband is from Halifax). All in all, this was great value for the experience - vibrant decor, amazing food, and wait staff that is available when you need them but otherwise leaves you alone for a private dinner. We got there around 6:30 or 7 and the place was about half full by the time we left; there was a table for six nearby but I can see how it would be hard to get a table for much larger parties than that. When we're in town, we will definitely be making more visits to Thai Ivory! read more

This was an interesting experience for sure! What I'll say is: location.location.location!!! Our visit here was mostly effected by where this location is at. When deciding in advance to go to it, it was based on our great visits to the Quinpool Thai Ivory, and that the location was just in Bedford. I didn't consider that this location was a "motel restaurant". Well, that was apparent from the moment we pulled into the motel parking lot. The area was dingy looking right away. Well, the Quinpool location was good we thought, so lets give them the benefit of the doubt. The food was good. It's basically the same menu at all 3 locations. The same wide selection of excellent food. We really enjoyed what we ordered. It was good, the waitress was nice and friendly, and the business itself is great. It was a quiet night, probably only 4 or 5 tables with guests. Then this young guy, probably 19, comes in with 2 girls about the same age. He starts asking if they sell shots of liquor. Asked if he could but a bottle of hard liquor to take back to his room, how late they were open, etc. He was VERY loud about doing this. The waitress seemed like she was becoming uncomfortable answering his continued ridiculous questions. This isn't a place to come and get drunk at, it's a Thai restaurant. He was making us feel uncomfortable as well. The whole restaurant could hear him, and he seemed like he was the kind likely to get himself in trouble. The next day, my wife was reading the news and there was a news report about a guy, about 19 who was with 2 girls, who got into a drunk fight with another male motel guest and the police had to be called. I can't say for certain it was the same guy, but it seems very likely, based on what I saw. The biggest problem seems to be it's attached to a cheap motel, and so this is the clientele you have in and around the restaurant. I'll stick to the other 2 locations from now on. read more

Not my first order here, but on this visit I picked up take out and the quality of the food seems to have gone downhill a bit? Ordered my favourite : Cashew Chicken. Funny Id complain(?) about this but there was wayyyyyyyyy more chicken then veg in my plate. So much that I found it really took away from my meal. Usually this servings gets me 2 meals. But due to the lack of veg my 2nd meal was only.. Chicken. I quite enjoy the sautéed veggies! The sauce was watery, not on par to what it typically is. I had also ordered spring rolls. It sort of annoys me that the only portion size is a 4pc... Which is to much for one person. I get home and am disappointed to find that they have forgotten to give me that tasty little sauce that makes it all worth it to get all 4 even though I wont eat them all! This experience unfortunately was not one with any more then a 2 * rating. read more

Wanting Thai but not wanting to venture downtown lead me to Thai Ivory. Decor wise, this place is your typical Asian style restaurant. Its not a large place, I can imagine at times it fills up pretty quickly. The service was good: efficient, polite and friendly. The spring rolls were delish. Hot and crispy with a yummy dipping sauce. We each ordered chicken pad thai. It was OK. I've definitely had better. From what I hear this isn't typical of them, usually they're quite good. Flavor wise it was OK, though the dish was loaded with green onions. I'm sure there was more onion than there was noodles. Not a bad experience overall. Right. Well.... The waitress came to our table and greeted us with an exasperated sounding sigh. I jokingly asked her if she was tired. She expressed very, very slight amusement, (as some people tend to do when I joke), but she said nothing in reply. We placed our orders and she shuffled off. Shortly thereafter came another silent waitress with our dessert. I thought it a little odd to be served such a sugary thing before the main course. It came in a bowl, it was VERY sweet and, well it tasted similar to coconut soup.... Oh wait, it WAS coconut soup. I guess. There were a couple of pieces of carrot in it, at least. It's just... hmm.. remember that time when you were a kid and you snuck a little extra sugar into your bowl of cornflakes, and after all the cornflakes were gone, you were left with that extra sugary milk (or should I say milky sugar)? Well, that's the kind of coconut soup it was. A milky sugar coconut soup. Once we hadn't finished our soup, the main dishes were served by a third silent waitress. One of the orders was wrong, but we were convinced that nobody there understood English, and we didn't feel like causing a disruption, so we ate it anyway. The main dishes were unlike any Thai food I've seen before and were also too sweet. Small servings as well, though I wouldn't have eaten more, had they served it for free. I think the rice was put on a plate with an ice cream scooper. One scoop of it. Not quite enough. Needless to say, we left rather unimpressed. There was one good thing about eating there though: we didn't have to do the dishes. So after all of that, I think I've concluded that Thai Ivory Cuisine is a good place to not go. read more

The only problem with Thai Ivory is that it can sometimes be tough to get tables big enough to accommodate big groups. Other than that? Game on, my friends. The staff are nice, the menu is robust, and the food is fantastic. Do yourselves a favour and try the Cream Cheese Wontons which are so good that it's pretty much ridiculous. When it comes to Pad Thai Cha Baa is by far my favourite but while visiting a friend in Bedford and seeing the Billboard on the Bedford Hwy many times we thought we would try Thai Ivory Cuisine out. 2 of us ordered Chicken Pad Thai and spring rolls and the third ordered pineapple chicken. Lets start with the good the pineapple chicken my friend had, was really nice had a well balanced sauce and was a pretty good serving size. The spring rolls were tasty, crisp, and stuffed with veggies but at 7.99 for 4 small spring rolls seems a bit much... but they were good. Now the bad.. the chicken Pad Thai was not good, the sauce was all wrong and there was way too much of it. Also for $13.99 it really was not a ton of food it was enough but really not what you would expect for that much money. It did have 1 redeeming factor was that it was big chunks of veggies which was a nice addition. read more

I have been here a couple times when I was craving Pad Thai. The restaurant looks nice inside but I have not had a chance to eat in. The pad thai is very tasty and you get a healthy portion. I will be back to explore more of the menu and try something different. read more

I placed a take out order for Masaman Curry, The service was great, and the order was prepared quickly - but i was disappointed with the size of the order of rice that I was given with my curry. I even purchased an extra rice at a cost of 3.50 and it too was a very, very small portion. Both rices combined did not even equal a bowlful. Rice is dirty cheap, why be stingy with your side orders??? Also, my curry sauce was very runny and the chicken was chewy. My recommendation is not to be so stingy on things that have such a low cost - you left me unimpressed and I probably won't return - all for the lack of a large scoop of rice. read more

Wow, Thai seems to be Halifax's choice of pallet lately, enough that this restaurant opened in Bedford in June. What a beautiful interior, and a very reasonable priced menu. Items on the menu will be under $20.00 a plate, which is not bad considering the quality of food you are getting. Lunch Specials: the menu is great in this sense, they offer a two person combo for $30.50, which includes 2 Spring Rolls , Mango Salad or Papaya Salad , Pad Thai and Entree (Choices of Vegetarian, Chicken, Pork or Beef.) Mango salad is awesome & their beef dishes in general are great! Love their springrolls and pretty much everything else. Been to many different Thai spots in Halifax but my friends and I keep coming back here! As I write this, I am eating one of the best Spring Rolls I have ever had! The first time I ate here, I ate in. I ordered the Pad Thai off of their Lunch Menu. It came with a Chicken Spring Roll and Hot and Sour Soup. A friend of mine ordered the Pineapple Curry, and wished it was spicier. But we all enjoyed our meals. The atmosphere is very cool but the seating seems limited. I ordered in today, and had the Green Curry with Chicken and of course some more awesome Spring Rolls. Probably the best in Halifax. Everything came still pretty hot, no need to reheat. (Bedford Hwy to Clayton Park) I totally recommend this restaurant for some good Thai food. read more

Since my children were in school I signed up for the Entertainment Book which provides coupons and discounts at local restaurants. My husband and I like to dine out at least once a week and the book often provides incentive to try out a new restaurant. I had never eaten at Thai Ivory and I had a coupon for $12 value...basically buy one and get one. Two Sundays ago we went to Thai Ivory to try it out. We informed the waitress we had a coupon...She said "sorry we are not doing that special - we are now offering half price appetizer only" Which means the coupon value is now only worth half of what it clearly states it will provide as a discount. I informed her that the coupon clearly states buy one and get one menu item. She went to speak to her manager and he declined to accept our coupon for the terms printed on it. I'm not cheap by any means when I go out to dine, however, what gets me is false advertising and the fact the manager would not honour a coupon and sent the waitress with the message, instead of dealing with it himself. I do not think this man is a good employer, a good business person and therefore, do not care to eat his food. We left the restaurant and I can tell you I won't be back to try the food. read more

No doubt the food is delicious, i loved everything i got, but they are terrible when it comes to delivery 1) Cash only, if you want to do credit you have to give your card details in advance..no one likes doing this, surprised restaurants still do it. 2) they dont know how much the delivery is going to cost you, they hire someone to do it My food was 47.12, paid 66 at the door due to delivery charge to clayton park from bedford highway, ordered for two people. I love Thai food, and coming from Vancouver area I thought I would try Thai Ivory here in Bedford where I am currently located. I took a couple of friends out for dinner, we had the dinner for 3. The cashew chicken was delicious with lots of chicken, Pad Thai was wonderful too, but was really to sweet. Veggie spring rolls were very good, average in size, not the large size, and of course the sauce was yummy. We had another dish with black bean sauce with very large shrimp, also it had veggies, don't miss out on a dish with black bean sauce if you have never tried one. I love mango salad, it was so tasty that I craved Thai food for two weeks and had to pick up a salad to bring to dinner to share the experience with my family. It is also on the sweet side, I tossed out the soggy lettuce and added shredded cabbage to stretch the size. Love the taste. I returned for the third time yesterday for take out, I got the dinner for one with Chicken Pad Thai, spring roll, and sweet and sour soup. It was very tasty indeed. I might consider getting dinner for two next time and having it twice. Dollar wise it was $60.00 for 3 to eat. A mango salad for pick up was $11.50 with our high tax rates. The calamari was old, smelly and inedible The curry was passable but far from authentic. Half way through the meal I noticed there was a big piece of chicken in the pad thai. I'm not a vegetarian but I'm sure that would piss off someone who was! Love the decor. Food was pretty good, but I think it depends on what you order and when they make it. I had the pineapple fried rice for take away dinner one day and it was great, but when I had it for lunch on another day, it failed to impress. Pad Thai is pretty good, but I wish it had more kick to it. Overall I think that most of the food I have had has been pretty tasty. And there's lots of variety. Hard for me to decide. Three of us tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. We had lemon grass soup, Thai salad rolls, Pad Thai, Thai Mussman Curry and spicy beef. All the dishes were excellent. My personal favorite was the Thai Mussman curry. It is medium spicy and the combination of coconut, curry and peanut was really perfect for me. The spicy beef and the curry came with rice, but we could have used a bit more. Their menu is very large with most dishes having a vegetarian option. We will definitely be going back to try more delicious dishes. read more

I will never order from here ever again. I've ordered several times from here and normally my only complaint is that they don't offer enough rice with their meals but after tonight's abysmal service I can say I've never been so disappointed in a restaurant. We placed a large order of massaman curry, crispy chicken stir fry, chicken pad Thai, and glass noodle salad with two extra orders of rice. Now for these 4 dishes it can out to a $100 order which I could care less about if I loved the food. After placing an order for deliver we received a call an hour later letting us know that our food was ready for pickup we let them know that no it was for delivery. It took them another 30 minutes to arrange a delivery which means our food came ice cold. We tried calling the restaurant as I don't want to pay for cold food but with 10 minutes to closing they decide that they don't want to pick up the phone. Now the delivery guy can't do anything about it other than say call the restaurant. Now yes all in all dissatisfying but get this it's not done....not only was our food cold but my shrimp in my glass noodle salad were still raw! The salad itself was so acidic that it was unedible and those 2 extra orders of rice we ordered still were not enough to sop up the stir fry or the curry.... it looked more like a rice soup than anything else. Went the other night and had the spring rolls and the black beans with pork. Food was fantastic, the chicken Spring rolls were crisp and hot and the dipping sauce matched up perfectly. The black beans with pork was delicious, crisp vegetables and just spicy enough to perk up the taste buds. The sweet rice mixed great with the black bean sauce and with the excellent service I had a thoroughly enjoyably meal at a very good price, plan to go back and try the rest of the menu with others to share the experience. read more
