I was only visiting Mount Vernon, and it seems that the locals much prefer another Thai restaurant a block away (judging by the big line out front!) - but that is a tiny hole in the wall that, during these pandemic times, is only doing takeout. So if you prefer a sit-down experience, Thai House will do the trick. The menu is your standard Thai fare, the food fresh if not surprising, the ambience welcoming. Beef boat noodle soup was awful. Slices of beef were tough and gristly. The meatballs were disgusting in texture and flavor. Broth was dark and bland. If this soup in fact is a blood based soup, it would be most helpful to put that in the menu description. Dined with two friends who had the wonton soup and neither were impressed in a favorable way. Saving grace was the hot water in the bathroom for handwashing. On the way out owner and server said the soup was not good . Really? Wow. County health dept. Is right around the corner. This little place in downtown My. Vernon is expensive, has small portions and is not very tasty. The lunch "special " cost 14.00 plus tax and had about three spoonfuls of the main dish , which was cashew chicken . The rest was pad thai, which was pretty dry, rice and a potsticker. It was all very average tasting and the chicken - two snd pieces , was dry. It was almost the only Thai restaurant in Mt. Vernon, so I had no choice, but next time I'm in Mt. If you like peanut sauce, this place is a must-try. I don't know what makes their peanut sauce so special, but it's incredible. Pra rahm noodles are my favorite, and includes a great variety of fresh cut vegetables. They serve their food in beautiful dishes which adds a lot to dine-in experience. There are only two restaurants in Mount Vernon my husband and I regularly go to and Thai House is one of them (COA is the other ). The staff here are extremely friendly! They always compliment my food choices, making me feel like some foodie connoisseur, and always make friendly conversation. My husband and I usually order the same things-egg noodle soup and Thai noodle soup. I recommend either of those with the fried tofu. However, their curry is delectable too! This place was alright. The service was perfect, we had everything we needed but the waitress didn't hover at all which I always appreciate. The decor was nice as well. We ordered larb gai, yellow curry, and pad Thai, all with chicken and all 3 star. First - the 3 star was more like a 1. I looooove spice but I always order something mid-level my first time somewhere to be safe. Everything was good with well balanced flavors but nothing blew me away. I'd even say the curry was a bit bland. However, they definitely didn't skimp on the meat at all and that was a plus. I'm a former restaurant owner and gourmet cook. I make my own Thai food on a regular basis. I enjoy going to the Thai House for their friendly service and delicious Thai food. Since I spent years in quality control for a small 45 unit chain of dinner houses, I used to be a complete tyrant. I expected perfection at every turn. I have changed 180 degrees from my former self. I look at the dining experience as that of a guest in a friend's home. When I see congestion and panic, I back off and relax rather than adding to the mayhem. I gently tell the staff to leave me be and deal with the customers who take lessons and pills on how to make things worse. These are gentle, quiet people. They serve very good food and they are very sensitive. They are hurt when someone goes off on a tirade. They do not know how to cope. This is Mount Vernon, for crying out loud. I'm here because the pace is slower and there's not as much hustle and bustle as the big city. Relax and enjoy the experience here. They are wonderful people who work hard to provide you with food that will make your day. read more

After spending at least 2 hours reading Mount Vernon restaurant reviews, including good reviews of this restaurant, I decided that a friend of ours (coming from Bellingham, about a 30 minute drive) and hubby and I would eat here. So, I'm not a Thai food expert. But I have been eating Thai food for a good 20 years. And all of it in the Seattle area, which boasts its share of good Thai restaurants. In any case, I'm definitely a pretty good judge at what tastes good. And most everything was good - and two items were home runs. We started with the Thai iced tea. Now a good Thai iced tea has a good mixture of smoky tea sweetness with milk. Unfortunately, this Thai iced tea tasted of pure sugar with a hint of tea. Even dumping almost half a glass of water into it didn't cut down on the sweetness enough for me. (Note: I do add sparkling water to pure juice as it's too sweet to drink "straight.") Anyway, word to the wise: if you're gonna spend almost $4 on this, make sure you tell your waitress not to make it really sweet. The spring rolls (known in Chinese establishments as egg rolls) are okay, but seem to consist mainly of undercooked cabbage and very little else. While they had enough salt, there was just something missing; they were fairly bland. And the sweet clear brown sauce (didn't seem to be plum and I forgot to ask) was not terrible, but definitely wasn't anything I'd write home about. On the other hand, the Crying Tiger was absolutely outstanding. While we've had a variation on this that's normally called beef larb, this version with steak strips has a great melange of flavors, intricately layered. Onion, baby tomato halves, zucchini sticks, and the pretty bed of lettuce all play an important part in this salad's charm. One of the home runs! Hubby veered off the beaten track and, so instead of getting his usual phad see yew, he got PraRarm Noodles, consisting of thin rice noodles, broccoli, egg, spinach, and then covered with peanut sauce. This was okay to me; again, I can't quite put my finger on it. However, hubby really enjoyed it and said he was happy to try it. Additionally, this was supposed to be 2 star, but seemed to have almost no spiciness. (Although, to be fair, I indicated while the waitress was there that we really didn't want anything too spicy - and our dinner guest had asked for 0 stars!) My also not 2 star beef Temple Cashew was excellent; another home run! Replete with Shitake mushrooms, bell peppers, green onions, water chestnuts, sun dried roasted chili, celery, zucchini, baby corn, carrots, and, of course, cashews, served over rice, this was almost divine. I ate two servings even though I was full. Our friend had 0 star phad thai. All I know is that huge plate of food could have fed four of her! She said it was good, but I was getting really full - but wanted to sample the dessert menu. So I can't tell you how it tasted. Perhaps next time we go with a friend, I will taste just so I can tell you what I thought. The sticky rice and mango was good. The black sesame seeds added an extra burst of flavor. Mango, especially the right kind of mango for this dish, isn't in season right now. Also, the rice was a glutinous mass. Anyway, good like I said, but not great. But the third home run: the fried banana with coconut ice cream. This is the absolutely very best fried banana I have ever tasted in my life!!!!! The coating included shredded coconut and was crunchy yet light at the same time. There was no greasy feeling, nor could one taste the grease (i.e., the cooking oil was fresh). And the ice cream? Oh my goodness! some of the best tasting ice cream - and not overly coconutty! Our server said it was homemade - and I thought it tasted like it (although not in a been in the freezer too long sort of way whatsoever). I was mystified at Chris' review, especially since we came early - and stayed 2 and a half hours. The waitresses were perfect, kind, helpful, and checked on us regularly. Even when one had given us a check - half an hour ago. We even got a water refill around that time. And that with the restaurant packed and at least 10 customers waiting for a seat!!!! We didn't feel rushed. And absolutely no one was rude to us! Anyway, so apparently I don't need to advise anyone to come here. But do it anyway - and if you come around 5, you won't have to deal with the crowds! read more

4-01-2016 11:45am My wife and I were in town to enjoy the colorful tulips that the region is famous for, but wanted a nice lunch first. My wife ordered the Spicy Noodle/Vegetable Stir fry with beef. I ordered the Pad See Ewe (their spelling) with beef. We were the first of two couples in the restaurant, as it seemed they had just opened. Our order arrived quickly, and hot. Nice way to start! It went down hill on the first bite, as her order was well-over-salted beyond any tolerance, swimming in sauce (the bowl was half full of sauce) and inedible. We notified the waitperson, who was understanding and apologetic. My wife ordered a different dish with hopes the over-seasoning was just a mistake, and a different dish would be better seasoned. Nope. The replacement dish, Bah Mee Hang with beef, was no better. Over salted again, and item of note, the egg-noodles in this, the rice noodles in her previous dish, and my Pad See Ewe, were over boiled and mushy. If there's one thing that is a turn-off is mushy, pasty noodles. Of positive note, the sliced beef in each of our dishes was prepared and cooked nicely, and had nice texture. Some Thai restaurants precook their sliced meat (pork, beef chicken) then add them in in the final stir-fry preparation. Thai House does a nice job of meat preparation for each dish. The vegetables in our dishes were fresh and crisp. The ambiance is nicely quiet, airy, and well lit. The server was professional, and seemed to be working hard to do her best. The seasoning in my Pad See Ewe was nicely hot, but a bit on the salty side (sadly a seemingly reoccurring cooking-theme here). We were truly hoping for a positive experience, as we love Thai food. We have several within walking distance to our home in Seattle, and we visit them enough for them to know our names. By the time we were ready to checkout to continue our adventure in MT Vernon, the restaurant was filling, and other patrons who had been served were openly noting their dishes were over-salted as well. Sad, as Thai House seems to be "Yelped" well reviewed and liked. Unfortunately, it wasn't for us. Perhaps the cook was having a bad day. The receipt invited us to review our visit, and sorry to say we probably won't be back. read more

It's a Sunday and you decided you wanted to see endless fields of tulips somewhere far from the city. Mount Vernon. And then you're hungry. You would not have great expectations for great Thai food all the way up in Mt. Vernon? Would you? Unpretentiously sitting in quaint downtown Mt. Vernon, Thai House offers and delivers far beyond whatever expectations you have after a good one-hour trip from Seattle. Their food is delicious. Period. One of the best phad thai I ever had. The green avocado curry and pineapple curry also deserve a round of applause. The crab rangoon are perfectly shaped flower wontons deep fried and filled with cream cheese goodness! Another appetizer we tried was the fired tofu. well, that was so-so. But what do you really expect on a fried tofu than a tofu, well, fried. The staff are very caring and friendly--almost too caring and friendly at times but I'd take that than robot-like, pre-programmed servers that pour water with their default smiles. I love this place. I hate fawning reviews that make restaurants sound like they can do no wrong, but Thai House...well, it didn't do any wrong that I could see! After a long drive, my girlfriend and I parked in front of Thai House with low expectations but high hunger. They seated us right away and brought our food out in just a few minutes, and everything was much, much better than I'd have expected from a quiet, honky town in northern Washington. I love restaurants where the produce comes out cool, fresh, and crispy, like the lettuce for our lettuce wraps, and the cooked food comes out hot, steaming, and savory, like the pad see ew. Even the rice was way above average. You know that dry, cheap-ass rice with a texture like it's been warming in the rice cooker for three days? None of that here. Good, good stuff. If you're in Mt. Much, much, much better than the other place with the funny name I can't pronounce. This food is awesome and flavorful. It cannot be replicated because it's home made and delicious. We had chicken lettuce wraps to start and Tom Kha soup, then my favorite pad ke Mao, and beef massamoman (spelling?) Curry. Tom Kha soup was delicious with its lemongrass and coconut flavors sending my taste buds to heaven. My tummy was very happy at the end of our meal. You can dine in or order to go. The staff is very polite and helpful with any questions. I got 3 stars which was just the right amount of spice for my meal-medium to let you enjoy all the wonderful flavors without overpowering your palate. Tropical ice tea accents meal very nicely and don't forget to order a Thai tea to go for your dessert or just a nice palate cleanser--so good. We will definitely go back and I highly recommend this place for anybody craving, awesome Thai food. We ordered the crab rangoons and Thai something dumplings and they were ok but really lacking flavor. They were piping hot so we know they were fresh. The dipping sauce that came with the dumplings was really good. The sauce the crab rangoons came with was unusually sweet. I didn't mind it so much but my fiancé didn't like it. My fiancé ordered the Penang Curry and was pretty disappointed with it. It was runny, but the flavor was pretty good. I ordered the chicken pad Thai and couldn't eat much. We are very picky eaters (when it comes to eating out). My husband usually gets sick from any chemicals or poor quality ingredients. Not only did he not get sick but he said that it was the best Thai he's had. (we don't eat out often so take it for what it's worth) The is the only place in Mount Vernon where we LOVED the food and have been back several times since. (4/18/2015) We were meandering through the Tulip Festival Street Fair and it was nearing dinner time. Got the Pad Thai and Chicken Satay combo, I love me some chicken on a stick. For street food from a chafing dish it wasn't bad, a touch sweet (but that's the way Americans like it), noodles were broken, probably had been in that dish for a little while, but I did appreciate the traditional Thai sweet pickled turnips in the dish. Chicken was well-seasoned, also had been out a bit, but was still pretty tasty. Surprisingly no Sriracha, but the Thai crushed red pepper and sambal were plenty hot. The plate was all right, a touch pricey (taking advantage of the tourists). If I lived there I'd stop back in to try the real food. read more

I've been coming here for a few years now and today I entertained a prospect here for lunch. Our soup was barely warm - not hot at all; not even really warm. It had no flavor == just milky watery and some tofu chips floating in it - not scallions, or carrots of anything else. I ordered a rather standard dish (Pad Kee Mau) and it also was barely warm enough - as if it had been sitting in the kitchen for several minutes before being brought to the table. My guest had to ask for a box for her remainders 2-3 times before it was provided. Place was barely busy - only about 3-6 tables filled with diners at lunch time. What happened???
