I tried takeout for the first time, and I definitely believe this place is much better sitting inside but that's typically how most food is! I tried the pad kee-mao for the first time, and it was good but a bit too saucy for me. The noodles were a bit tough and stuck together which probably is just from the takeout box but it was flavorful but felt it was lacking meat. I would definitely stick with the pad thai or a stirfry from them. But it had a bold spicy flavor which I appreciate and I'm glad I tried it. The spicy minced chicken was a great size for the price and it being an appetizer. It was SO flavorful, and I just wanted to eat the chicken and order that all over again! So yummy. The wonton soup wasn't my favorite, the broth was basic but the wontons were soft and flavorful so I definitely tried to get a bite of wonton in every scoop. I didn't realize that I had been to this restaurant before. I ordered takeout and picked it up. Which is think made a huge difference rather than having a delivery service. The food was piping hot and it seems like it's a popular place for takeout. It was towards the end of their service and although online ordering was done, we could still call and place the order. There were a few people waiting to collect their takeout orders. The customer service was great and the restaurant looks quite nice. The takeout pick up is in the very back of the restaurant. I got the pan fried dumplings and the Siam tofu curry. The curry is definitely much better than the past order. The broth was so flavorful that I would've been over the moon with just a bowl of that either way rice. Of course there was rice and veggies which were delicious. I wish the tofu would've been able to soak up the broth more but I wouldn't say that's a deal breaker by any means. The dumplings were ok. The dipping sauce made them more tasty. Dropped by at lunchtime on a weekday. One or two other tables were occupied and already eating. We ordered Thai beef salads. Took a long time for a simple order. Another group arrived maybe 10 minutes after us. Their food came out way before ours, and server spent a deal of time chatting with them- regulars, maybe. Salads arrived. Veggies were fresh, but beef was very tough. Overall bland and not really any flavour. Lots of liquid was left in the bottom of the salad bowl. I love Thai beef salads in general, but don't feel this measured up. Had to get up and hunt down the server for the check and then again to pay. Turns out the item is more expensive than they tell you on their own website menu. Turns out they upcharge you if paying with CC. Did not see this posted or mentioned on the menu- if it was their it was certainly made to be not prominent. No one likes surprises. There are too many decent Thai restaurants that I will continue to patronize, but not this one. read more

Recently visited this restaurant and ordered shrimp patay with rice. I've been to Thailand and the food here was delicious. Beautifully cooked, sauce was so good. Service was excellent with the comedy waiter. Played a loud version of Happy Birthday for my friend and then gave her a tiramisu which when said was better than any she had had in an Italian restaurant. This was an interesting place. We got take away, but even after ordering 30 mins in advance (at a time the restaurant was not at all busy) we had to wait 15 minutes for the order. It seemed they were having bad take out day. The food was extra amazing, along with the portions and the look of it. We got the Pad Kee Mao noodles and the mango chicken. The noodles were nice and spicy with tons and tons of veggies. The mango chicken was very flavorful, it would have been even better if the mango was sweeter and now raw. Website was down so had to go in to order takeout. The restaurant has a challenging setup which makes service rough but the food was good! They still seem to have the same setup from Covid with very high booths that keep you from being able to see into the restaurant well. Led to a lot of confusion from customers as we awkwardly waiting around not knowing what to do. I got the pad Thai and the Thai rolls. Both were good. Nothing special, but good. I traveled from NJ to visit friends and came to Thai Gourmet as I heard great things about it. I was not disappointed! Even though the name of the restaurant says "Thai," the menu also includes many favorite Chinese-American dishes. Our group ordered Thai Spring Rolls and Crab Rangoon to start. Both were freshly fried; the crab rangoon had a very crab-forward filling (which can be lacking in many Chinese restaurants)... ooey gooey and very delicious. A great way to start a meal! I ordered the Thai Green Curry with beef. The beef slices were tender; the curry sauce was spot on. Great depth of flavor, with enough heat to be present but not set your mouth on fire, and the coconut milk to balance the heat. Others in our party got the Pineapple Fried Rice and Green Pepper Steak. Those dishes were just as well crafted and prepared as my Curry dish. As great as the food was, the two biggest takeaways are value and customer service. Portions were very generous, and the prices were very affordable. I most likely would have had to pay double the prices in NJ/NYC that we did at Thai Gourmet. The quality of the food could rival any Thai spot in central NJ or the Lower East Side of NYC. The ambiance is not pretentious at all, and the staff makes you feel like family from the moment you walk in. If you live or work in Independence, OH and are a fan of Thai food, consider yourselves lucky that Thai Gourmet is in your backyard. read more

I love the mango chicken and get it each time. The sauce is perfect with generous pieces of fresh mango. I only ordered the chicken pad Thai, but was told it is one of their specialty dishes. I was sadly disappointed as the rice noodles were overcooked and broke apart into small 2 inch pieces. There was too much egg in the dish. The sauce was the worst part because it was not like a typical pad Thai sauce, it was more of a pasty red curry sauce with zero taste. So to sum it up, overcooked rice noodles, sauce was pasty and not like a traditional pad Thai sauce, and it overall the dish had minimal taste. Usually I avoid places that serve both Thai and Chinese food because that typically means that the restaurant can't do either very well so they have to do both, but I was actually mildly surprised but also slightly disappointed at the same time. - Green Curry Chicken - The flavor was actually spot on. The curry has that coconut but spicy flavor with my favorite bamboo shoots. Goes very well with rice. My one complaint was that the chicken was too soggy and it felt like it was falling apart not in a way that it should, aka shredded. - Curry Fish (Red) - Although the curry was fantastic, the fish was way too oily. When you picked the fish up, oil was dripping from its sides and it felt like they didn't give it adequate time to rest and drain out the oil. - Pad See Ew (Beef) - Pretty solid and standard dish, its hard to go wrong with Pad See Ew. I didn't really like the beef. It seemed like it was frozen over and then cooked because the texture felt like it was falling apart. Overall, not bad for a Thai place, especially in Cleveland. Would skip the Curry Fish and would get just the plain curry. It is on the pricier side though. read more

What happened to the Thai Gourmet I know and love? I'm a frequent guest at Thai Gourmet, but I'm concerned that there might be a change in management or the kitchen. The food was subpar. This place is just off Rockside rd. It is SOOOO GOOOD!!! The wife and I got the spring roll app. You get six of the fried rolls, and a kind of sweet and sour dipping sauce. Now, wifey and I usually get different things. So we can "share" (awe, how cute!) but in this case we both got the Pad Thai. You know how most Thai or Vietnam restaurants don't have lunch specials? And if they do, it is usually some Chinese dish. THIS PLACE has regular Thai stuff at lunch prices. So, $14.98 pad Thai is dinner price. $10.98 is lunch price. And there was a lot. We took leftovers home, reheated beautifully. AND AND AND, it was chicken AND shrimp. On same plate, not either/or. And it tasted GREAT! My wife struck up a convo with the lady in the next booth, who turned out to be the owners sister. And the owner himself was doing the table waiting. And he was a great guy too. Asked for extra peanuts, came right out. It was one of the best Thai meals I've ever had. And I was in the Air Force. Lots of friends with Thai wives who were VERY popular when it came to going over their houses for dinner. I tossed in a couple pics, let's see, oh yeah, it's in a plaza, huge plaza, lots of restaurants. Independence OHIO is worth the road trip, just for this place. Better than the ones in Kent. Both good but if you like spice the spicy wonton were my favorite. Had the pad thai which was a very generous portion and came with chicken and shrimp. I arrived early around 4:30 pm so I was the only person dining in the restaurant, I was waited on quite quickly even though there seemed to be only one server at the time. I will say that there was a steady flow of food picker-upers coming in. I ordered the Thai Spring Rolls which were served in a cute boat dish with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. The rolls were very hot and crispy. They were quite good, I was able to take a few home for lunch the next day. Additionally, I ordered the Avocado Thai Entre with beef; it was delicious! The sauce had a pleasant taste and smell of coconut milk which perfectly balanced the spice in the dish. It was served with white rice which came in a separate dish. Overall I would recommend Thai Gourmet. It is reasonably priced and has a great menu selection. My only criticism would be the portion size of the entre...I ate the whole thing and didn't have leftovers like I usually have from Thai and Chinese restaurants. He was super polite and made me feel right at home. There is absolutely no need to go to any other place to get red curry than Thai Gourmet. I have eaten Thai food from all over the country and this was hands-down the best red curry tofu and chicken that I have ever had. The dinner portions are very generous and I was greeted by a very friendly waiter who quickly got me my take-out order. I've already ordered from this restaurant twice and I'm planning on ordering at least one more time before I end this deployment. The chicken lettuce wraps put PF Chang's to shame and they're so hard to stop eating. Definitely check this place out and if you live a little further away I promise it's worth the drive!! read more

The last time my boyfriend and I came here was pre-COVID - so it's been about 2 years. We were hesitant about coming back due to some reviews below stating that the cook has changed. The last time we went, we fell in love with the owner. His constant attention to us and easy conversation made us easily want to come back (but again, COVID happened). We decided to try again tonight as it's our 4 year anniversary...and GOD LET ME TELL YOU: it's SO good to be back. His face rounded the corner and we were ECSTATIC - and to top it, the food was as memorable as we knew it would be.
