Came here on a week day. They only have 4 tables here, so depending if it's busy I imagine there might be a wait. That being said it wasn't busy when I went and was easy to be seated. The restaurant is located in a strip mall but in its own small parking lot. I had to park in the next section a few feet away, which is something to think about if it is raining hard. Service was great and the waiter had great knowledge of different Thai foods and mentioned it's possible to make modifications to certain dishes. Overall I enjoyed the food. I ordered boat soup, larb gai, and crispy pork appetizer. All dishes were pretty comparable to other restaurants I've been too. Lastly this place has relax feeling. I wanted to eat something warm due to the recent cold temperatures, so I decided it was the day to try boat noodles! Currently, this place only has 1 table, which seats 4 people. I lucked out on a Saturday evening and got the table when I got there. The boat noodles dish (with beef) was so good!! The broth was rich and flavorful. I loved the pieces of liver and pork rinds garnished on top. I found myself using a lot of the vinegar dipping sauce that they give you on the side. A patient once recommended I go get thai food at Thai Food. Where? Thai food. I know, but where? Thai food. Thai food where? Yes, go try it. Where do I try thai food? Thai food Did Abbott and Costello do a gig in Thailand? Had he not pointed out the place was in Annandale, I'm pretty sure Thai Food would be ungoogle-able. My suspicion is that this was partially intentional on part of the family run operation. A local favorite amongst the Thai community, it is located in an unassuming strip mall full of Korean shops (Annandale is like the Korea Town of the greater DC burbs), the decor is dimly lit with a handful of tables, and service is not rude but not as nice as you would expect for a typical Thai restaurant. It's as if they don't give two flying curry puffs in regards to ambience, customer service, or serving generic fare of basic noodles and safe appetizers (which have received the harshest reviews) since they only want to serve their finest options only to those who are serious about appreciating authentic cuisine and know how to ask for it. There's a secret written menu that's completely in Thai at the entrance which I haven't worked up the courage to ask about, but thus far I have been pleased with their vaunted Boat Noodle Soup on the few occasions I have had an extended lunch break from work. A murky brown soup of thin rice noodles, liver, meat balls, and tender strips of pork, they give you a shot of a spicy pungent vinegar to pour in to your liking, along with fried pork cracklins for texture and ground chili powder to ramp up the spice level even higher if you're feeling like a native. It's a shame to judge this kind of joint by their pad thai, pad see ew, or a mild curry since they really seem to focus their efforts on authentic street food fare like a spicy raw shrimp salad or a deep fried flounder with spicy basil sauce and local Thai favorites less likely to appear on your classic takeout menu like stewed pork leg or khao man gai (Thai version of Hainanese chicken). Their desserts also appear to have some unique touches (mango with sticky pandan rice or taro balls soaked in coconut milk anyone?). This is like Thai Food graduate school where one earns their master's or doctorate degree in having one's taste buds refined and educated, and they seem to have no problem sending folks back to Thai food community college with basic noodles/curries if you don't care to enroll in the proper coursework. Really like this Thai place in Annandale. The place itself is pretty small, and seating is limited, but the food is spectacular. The citrus and basil flavors shine in their noodle dishes, and their spicy is a subtle, but noticeable touch. One big plus of this place is that they have really big portions for their food, so you can binge on all the foods you want. There's also other fancy dishes besides the standard ones that are also worth trying. One thing they can improve is their meat quality. I feel like the way they make it is by first steaming it to cooked and then throwing it into their sautee pan with the noodles, but this method drains a lot of the moisture from their meat, making it super dry and tough. The SMALL-ish dining room with just a few tables on the perimeter with one L-O-N-G communal table in the center, has plenty of natural light from big window in the front, with a few pictures of Thailand on the wall. Be prepared for an "intimate" dining experience during peak times. I'm always encouraged when I see patrons of a particular cuisine dining at said establishment. During my few visits, I noticed lots of Thai customers. And while I have not yet sampled the vaunted Boat Noodle Soup yet, this place cooks up some awesome noodles. First off, let me say I'm impressed by the portion sizes. I liked the coziness and feel of the restaurant however the dishes here lacked consistency. We ordered the Thai dumplings, pork appetizer, crispy duck, Gulf of Thai, and drunken noodles. The Thai dumplings were pleasant with a moist bounciness, accompanied with a crisp bed of carrot and red cabbage and soy sauce. The pork appetizer was decently good, some lean and fatty pork pieces paired with a fish sauce mixed with red onion, green onion, and a toasted granular element. The gulf of Thai dish was decent, possibly previously frozen scallop pieces along with succulent shrimp, calamari, and mussels in a green curry sauce sitting on a bed of crisp green beans and julianned bell peppers. The problem with the crispy duck was the fact that the duck breast was discolored and seemed quite old and very dry. I do enjoy duck if it's available on a menu but this dish was very disappointing; I'm surprised the cook preparing it didn't have a sense of self while preparing it to be honest. Our server was very kind to take it away and of course not charge us for it. The drunken noodles were tasty and had an expected texture and heat to them. I have been trying to find a good Thai place around the Alexandria/Annandale area ever since I have moved here. I am always craving Thai food and would love to find a place that makes delicious typical Thai food such as Pad See Ew and Pad Thai. I came here with my cousin and a friend and we really liked the interior. It was small and cozy. We were a little hesitant to come here since the name was so plain and unoriginal, but we are certainly glad we had stopped by! We started off with the Goong rolls, which are shrimp wrapped around by a spring roll wrapper. These were super crispy and delicious! The dipping sauce seems like a mixture of duck sauce and fish sauce and were a good complement to the rolls. There was a total of five rolls which was a good amount to share. I ordered my go-to beef Pad See Ew and was a bit disappointed. It was very bland in taste that I had to add the chili oil that was on the table for every bite. At that point, this place was just mediocre to me because if a simple Pad See Ew dish was so bland, the other dishes would be lacking as well. However, I was totally wrong! My cousin ordered the Yum Nua, which is steak flank cooked in spicy lime sauce. Everyone at the table really enjoyed it and thought it was very flavorful. It reminded us a lot of a certain Vietnamese dish that we all grew up eating. My friend ordered Som Tom, which is a papaya salad with spicy lime dressing. This also reminded us of a Vietnamese dish, but with just a bit more sourness to it. We enjoyed the flavors of this dish, however there were black crab shell pieces that we found no purpose for in the dish. We thought maybe we could chew on it like a soft shell crab, but it was too tough and would certainly be able to cut your mouth. We didn't think it added any extra flavor to the dish either. My favorite part of this entire dining experience was the mango stick rice! This is the dessert that you should always end with at a Thai place. The mango sticky rice here is different than most places because it is actually pandan flavored! You do not often see a lot of restaurants incorporating flavors of pandan in their food, so it was a pleasant surprise when they brought this dessert out to us! This dessert has just the right amount of sweetness to it. Although I was disappointed by the Pad See Ew, all the other dishes made up for it.
