Terrible tasting food that has been sitting around for a long time in a depressing atmosphere. Blech.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is some of the best food I've ever had…read more My family introduced me to this restaurant a couple years back, and let me tell you, their food is always as amazing as the day I first tried it. I live at pretty much the opposite side of the country, so every time I visit my family in Burlington this is always the first place I suggest. My favorite thing to get here is the chicken fried rice. There is always so much flavor and everything in it just goes together so well. Not only is their food amazing, but the people here are too. Every time we come here we are always greeted with a smile. Very kind and hospitable people. 100% recommend this place.

It's a small restaurant in downtown Burlington, so seating can be difficult during busy hours. Thankfully, we grabbed the last table before the rush. Our waitress was friendly and sweet. Despite being busy, she was attentive and timely. The lunch menu was limited to a few items, but they had what we wanted: Massaman curry with tofu (requested vegetarian) and egg rolls (not pictured). They were excellent! The curry was well seasoned and perfectly spiced; tofu was fresh and lightly fried; potatoes were flavorful and not bland; and veggies were fresh! The egg rolls were just as good, although I don't recall if they came with dipping sauce -- curry was too good for me to notice! You cannot find Thai food for $9 in California, not even lunch time, so this was a bonus. I'm sure their dinner menu holds up just as great, if not better. I definitely recommend this charming restaurant if you want inexpensive Thai for lunch. Excellent choice!

Sushiya continues to impress--easily one of my go-to spots in Iowa City for authentic Asian comfort…read moreand standout sushi. We tried their snow-aged sake this time (yes, aged in snow for three years!) and it was incredible--smooth, clean, and unlike anything else you'll find around here. As always, the sashimi was fresh, beautifully plated, and melt-in-your-mouth good. We mentioned we were celebrating a special event, and they surprised us with the cutest orange "bear" fruit carving. It's that kind of thoughtful, personal touch that makes this place unforgettable. I can never resist their Taiwanese popcorn chicken--crispy, tender, and packed with flavor--and the Three Cup Chicken tasted incredibly authentic. You can really tell this place is run by owners who care about getting it right, both in taste and presentation. Warm ambiance, kind service, and dishes that actually taste like home--Sushiya is a rare gem in the Midwest.

Sushiya serves up some great sushi, especially for Iowa and the Midwest. I only visit this area…read morewhen I'm seeing my best friend, and she usually takes me to Red Ginger--which I find subpar and overpriced for what you get. Sushiya, on the other hand, is the go-to spot. The flavors here are superior in every way. The seating inside is limited, but you can watch the sushi chefs working on the line, which is fun to see. It's clear they handle a lot of online orders because they were constantly busy. There's also a kitchen in the back for cooked dishes, though it's not visible from the dining area. Everything we tried was delicious, and I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. I especially enjoyed the lunch portion of the Katsu Don--it had a lot of onions, but I didn't mind. I did ask for extra spicy mayo for my two deep-fried sushi rolls, as they were a bit bland on their own. The spicy mayo seemed house-made, with far more spices than I've seen at other sushi restaurants, and it was genuinely spicy, which was a nice surprise. The restaurant itself was quiet, aside from my best friend's child having a little meltdown at the end of the meal when his food wasn't coming fast enough. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'd happily return.
