It's true - it is the best "Thai" restaurant in Fairfield Iowa, a town of 9,500. But don't expect much if you're used to eating Thai on the West Coast or any major City. That said the owner is nice, the food is fresh, and you can ask for organic chicken. The Pad Thai is the worst I've ever had (often too soupy). The curries are decent and the buffet on Thursday nights has a Teriyaki chicken/potato dish that's good. Avoid the sushi. *** NOTE *** Anyone giving this place 4-5 stars simply hasn't been exposed to great Thai/Asian-fusion food. I've been going here since I was really young. Food is consistently good and the prices are always affordable. I like the thick noodles served on Wednesday nights and the chicken and Asian pancakes served on Thursday nights. The number 25 on the menu is quite popular and good. At first I was a little skeptical of this place. It's a bit hodgepodge and not as clean as I used to. In CA we have very strict regulations and ratings and if a restaurant is below an A rating it can really hurt its business. This was not an A for cleanliness. Was riding through southeast Iowa and decided to stop in Fairfield because I figured they'd have some unusual-for-a-small-town dining options. Decided to eat at Noodle House, which was fortuitous as I found $2 on the ground outside (2 $1 bills not 1 $2 bill, Fairfield isn't THAT weird). I don't really know a damn thing about Thai food, but I really enjoyed the chicken pad thai I ordered. They made it for me "spicy" and it really wasn't that spicy but that's fine by me. For about $8 I got a huge pile of noodles with tons of chicken. The sauce was really peanutty, I loved it (you could maybe even call it transcendental). Overall though, it wasn't so amazing that I would drive back to Fairfield just to eat here but if I find myself here again I will definitely stop at Noodle House. read more

Solid food, though a bit inconsistent. The best example I can think of is the spicy chicken they serve on Friday's. The spice is never consistent. The worst part about this place is the god-awful hours. 11-2:30, 5:30-8 M-F though even that is inconsistent; there are at least two to three times a month they are randomly closed. read more

Yum! I love it here and they always make me Thai iced tea with boba! Don't get the bubble tea (slush) but get it regular. Trust me. Amazing. I'm glad that there was a Thai restaurant in town. Correction... a Chinese restaurant. I'm appalled that small town cheap labor low price were long gone in this town. It was really the sign of the time. It was like a cafeteria set up. There was no buffet here. It was really the combo meals like those mall vendors. You picked 2-3 items (steamed rice counted as one) for a set price respectively. The combo price was OK. The combo selection was limited at lunch. The foods looked OK. The menu selection was limited too. The menu price was a bit outrageous... $8-9 per dish. I ordered a Thai Chicken Noodle Soup ($5). The ying didn't blend well with the yang. The room-temperature chicken was most likely thrown onto the soup prior to coming out from the kitchen. It was the stored-bought hormone-rich meat... no flavor or taste. That's obvious... and there was nothing to hint at Thai flavors. If I really want to look at the positives, it's reasonably clean. There was free self served Thai hot tea and water. The server/husband/owner was hardworking. So diners, if you read this, most likely you're not a rural. It is OK for a Chinese restaurant in a small town with big city price. But the food is consistently well prepared, the service is always friendly, and the portions are generous. I am an avid fan of Thai food and have eaten at quite a few around the country. I know good Thai food! I pass through Fairfield frequently and will often stop at the Noodle House for lunch or dinner. I normally order off the buffet...which really is not a buffet but should be considered "cafeteria style" as you pay for the amount you get. The food at Noodle House is "okay". Not bad but not real good either. Flavors are a bit bland and even the food labeled as spicy is not very. Food sometimes sits a bit too long under the heat lamps in the cafeteria trays. Consider ordering from the menu, which is limited, if you want the freshest meal. (Note: chicken is the only animal meat served.) Staff are friendly. This is a no frills restaurant with self-service. I would rate the restaurnt 2.5 stars if I could. Okay for small town Iowa with few ethnic dining options but would not fare as well in larger cities where there is competition from other Thai restaurants. Update 7-2016. The Noodle House continues to be the best option in Fairfield for Asian food. The food is not great, but it is very consistent and good. A lot of vegetarian options. Noodle House is great for what it is! You can get one dish off the buffet for under $4 and that's usually plenty of food to fill me! Or you can order off the menu for around $7-9, and you get a lot of food! They have good red curry & green curry that's pretty authentic (especially if you order it spicy!) Most of the other dishes are definitely not authentic Thai cuisine, but they're tasty none the less! If your planning on getting buffet, I recommend going early (around 6pm is perfect for dinner) the food is quite fresh and there's usually the most selection around this time. Noodle House is the bomb, they have a ton of variety in the lunch and dinner buffet every day, with fresh spring rolls, avocado sushi, and cream cheese rangoons. When I say buffet I mean it is a buffet line that you order from, and he dishes your serving onto a plate and then you pay for it. You can also order off a menu which is printed on the wall behind the buffet line. Ordering off the menu means you might have to wait a little bit, until your dish is done, but it is extremely tasty and worth it. As with any place that cooks buffet items in large quantities, individually cooked dishes are always a step up in terms of taste and presentation. Don't get me wrong though, the buffet line is rock solid. If you get 2 half orders of some dish (let's say onion chicken and seafood vegetable), and a full order of some other dish (maybe stir fried veges or fried rice), it comes out to under 5 bucks and you get an insane amount of food. I like to get the avocado sushi and put a pile of pickled ginger and cilantro on each bite. That brings me to the sauces! They have a side table with wasabi, sweet and sour sauce, spicy peanut sauce, soy sauce, chopped cilantro, thinly sliced ginger (I think it is pickled ginger but I could be wrong), and probably 1 or 2 more that I am forgetting. This is awesome because if you ever decide to go out of your comfort zone and try some really far out dish, and end up hating it, you can always repair it using the side table! Other thoughts: They have Mexican Coca-Cola, with sugar not hfcs, not that it makes it any healthier for you. The guy who runs Noodle House is a really chilled out dude. Sometimes he gives you a hookup if they are near closing time. They have some awesome looking gourmet types of sushi now but I haven't tried them yet. You can request organic stuff when ordering off the menu for slightly more money. Best Dish in my opinion: Red Curry Chicken and vegetables with Brown rice (Menu, not buffet). I could eat this every day for a month and still want more. Many people will bitch about this place not being real thai food, or that it isn't nearly as spicy as real thai. Those people need to look around and realize they are in the middle of iowa, in a town of 10K. Open your own thai place and see how well you do. read more

Not a bad place if you're really craving Thai food. I've been here many times to get boba since there are none in Fairfield or Iowa...Im from California so I gotta get my fix. Came here with my girlfriend to eat lunch and would be my first time eating food here. My girlfriend orders the spicy noodles and I get the fried rice and chicken. Food takes a while since it's pretty busy with only 2 people working. Mine comes out quickly since it's from the buffet while my girlfriends noodles take some time. The rice was good but the chicken didn't have enough portions so I got more veggies than the chicken is ordered. While my girlfriends noodles were so spicy that she had a hard time eating it! And she's from Changsha China which is known for very spicy foods! I tried the noodles and it wasn't bad just extremely spicy. I've been to plenty of Thai restaurants in southern California since there everywhere but ive never had an experience like this. It wasn't bad nor good it was okay. The good thing I can say about it is is relatively cheap food and good pricing. Otherwise I feel like the owner of the restaurant has gotten tired of his business and it shows. I feel like he has worked so hard and has come to the point of just survival instead of coming to work in enjoyment. I recently just took a business class and feel that this place has potential but has lost its flame years ago. If the owner were to renew his passion for Thai food again I believe this place can be great.
