A generous portion of roast beef, smashed red potatoes and dark brown gravy with the Prince Edward vegetable blend . . . or . . .the incredibly moist fried chicken, mashed potatoes, country style gravy, with green bean casserole. My favorite from the ala carte menu is the Prime Rib. P.S. I don't live in Abington, wherever that is. I am a Hotel Nauvoo neighbor.

Our waitress was super friendly and we tipped her well for working on Christmas Day. She took our drink orders and delivered them quickly. She came by regularly to take away empty dishes. All staff we encountered in the dining room were friendly. We all left stuffed and enjoyed our meals. I was bummed that the green bean casserole had bacon in it, but there were plenty of other options. I do recommend looking around at all of the food options before loading up your plate. 4/5 stars because the carpet in the dining room was just a mess. I'm sure 2,000 people (at least) went through the buffet on Christmas Day, but staff could have gone around to clean up the obvious, big stuff stuck to the carpet during the slower times (like when we were there). I saw a little baby crawling around on the carpet and got a bit squeamish knowing there was a bunch of dirty napkins, toothpicks, and food bits everywhere. My parents even commented that they had never seen the floor so dirty, granted we were there on a major holiday. Highly recommend.

When I go to an Asian buffet type restaurant, I am not expecting the greatest quality, just comfort foods like general Tso's chicken, crab Rangoons, and some white rice at a reasonable price. This place exceeded my expectations. Each of the items in the buffet that I tried tasted fresh, not like it had been sitting under a warming lamp for two hours. The chicken meat (both white and dark) was high quality, no bits of gristle or other unchewable stuff that I often find at lower quality restaurants. The crab Rangoons were really good. Even the rice was very good, not having that dried out texture that it can sometimes get when it sits in a steamer pot for too long. The sushi was also surprisingly good. I never set my expectations high for buffet sushi, but I keep the bar even lower at small town restaurants that serve sushi. I mean, who expects decent sushi at a small town Iowa buffet? It was surprisingly tasty, even if the selection was limited to only one roll type item. My only gripe is that it was kind of dark inside, in spite of the windows being unobstructed and the sun being out. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine, but buffets really should portray a clean and bright environment to emphasize that they are high caliber restaurants. Buffets tend to be viewed as dark, dirty places, and I always encourage proprietors to upgrade their lighting to make their restaurants appear cleaner and more inviting. Aside from the lighting, this place solidly impressed me. For a small town Iowa buffet, it was very good.
