I could eat here every damn day. It's totally worth driving up Blanco through the worst part of Mexico to get there. When I call to order takeout, I always get myself at least two main courses, thinking I'll have something for the following night, but then I end up eating the second item for breakfast because it's so MF'ing gooood. Red curry with pumpkin, masaman curry with avocado, who else even makes it this way?!? I've tried every Thai restaurant I've seen in San Antonio (that's like over 9000 of 'em) and Thai Dee is hard to beat. My family has been coming to this place for years...sorry to say the service on our last visit has left me speechless, and ranking it as one of my worst dining experiences of my life..first, the waitress forgot our egg roll order. there were 3 of us dining and 2 of us got our order, while they forgot about our 3rd order..they, figured we would be pleased that we got the egg rolls for free and 10% off our bill..don't they realize real customer service would have been to offer no charge,,a return free visit,,many options but none were offered..will not be returning!! read more

This place is great! From the red curry to the garlic chicken to the pad Thai, everything is spot on at an amazing low price. Come during lunch where you get 2 egg rolls, a bowl of soup and a large of entree of your choice for only 8.99. Staff are nice. Food is ok. It is too sweet for my taste. Especially the tom yum that is supposed to be sour. Usually medium spicy is already spicy for my taste but their medium spicy is not spicy enough. Their tom kha is better than their tom yum. This is a fantastic awesome place to eat! The food is spectacular! Mom and Dad are in the Back Cooking and that is reason enough to come to and eat. The front is supervised and run by Nikki their son and he makes sure everyone is treated like they are so special. All the wait staff take their lead from him and do the same for all the customers. It can be real crowded and you may have to wait...no to worry it is worth the wait. I love the fact that they allow you to bring your own wine and they provide great stemware and are happy that you are enjoying yourself. This is my favorite Thai restaurant and it deserves that accolade!! The area is not all that lovely and there is some tagging in the neighborhood but do not let that stop you....nothing has ever occurred but a great experience. read more

After hearing about this place for a while I was finally able to check it out. I really enjoyed my experience here. The restaurant is small and while it wasn't filled on the day I went I can see this place becoming packed and having to wait for a table. We started out with hot jasmine tea but of course we could have BYOBd which I always like about a place that doesn't serve alcohol. We then got the golden shrimp which are worth a try. They're tasty and messy. We then ordered Thai Dee Light which comes served on a hot plate and the sauce is really what won this dosh. I had also heard good things about their fried rice so we got the combination fried rice to share. The rice definitely lived up to its reputation. My friend and I had enough leftovers for the next two days. The service was great and we never wanted for anything. I've seen reviews about the parking but we didn't have any problem with it the day we went. I would say this place is for sure a place I will be back to. read more

Thai Dee is the BEST Thai food I've had in San Antonio!! I thought my friend was crazy when we pulled up to the restaurant. (It's in a hole in the wall next to a gas station) It's nice and clean once you get inside the restaurant and the food is fresh and delicious!! The crab fried rice is fantastic, red curry chicken is amazing, chicken satay is awesome...... I could go on and on. Don't let the scary venu keep you away. Went out on a Friday night with the family for a good Thai dinner. We've enjoyed Thai food in many parts of the country and have eaten at most of the Thai restaurants in San Antonio. We've enjoyed the food at Tong's on Austin Highway and Thai Topaz--Castle Hills (the location on NW Military is more appropriate for a nice dinner). This was our second time eating at Thai Dee. The first time was over 5 years ago when our son attended the International School of the Americas right around the corner. Back then, our older son recommended the restaurant as being a popular place for good Thai food. I don't recall the specifics of what we ordered, I just remember having GI (gastro-intestinal) issues after the meal. OK, we put the past behind us and decided to try it again after many years. The online reviews from Google, Foursquare and Yelp definitely influenced us to give it a shot again. The restaurant has the allure of being one of those hidden gems tucked away in a less well-kept part of town (next to a convenience store adorned with classic loiterers). The line flowed slightly outside the restaurant door as customers waited for a table. We don't mind waiting, especially for good food, so we took this as a positive indicator. After a 20-25 minute wait, we were finally seated at our table. We watched as the person cleaning the table proceeded to clean the seats of the chairs with his towel (do you know what E. coli is?) and THEN cleaned the table top. The table top had a sticky feeling and to make matters worse, there was bucket between our table and the table next to ours catching water dripping from the ceiling. Upon a quick visual inspection, the ceiling displayed significant mold damage. OK, I was still willing to overlook these details if the food was flavorful and on par with the Thai food we've had in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, or even Austin (and from the reviews, we thought that this place might live up to that standard). Our small son had to go to the bathroom and immediately upon entering it, it was apparent that the place needed some maintenance. The floor was filthy and slippery. There was feces all around the toilet seat and even around the base of the toilet near the floor. I didn't want to touch anything and did not want my child to touch anything either. In my mind, if the bathroom is dirty, then the kitchen is probably equally as dirty. Again, I was willing to overlook these issues if the food lived up to the reviews. Well, we finally received our food. Calamari, shrimp dumplings, Pad Thai and Green Curry. The calamari was good, not great, but solid. The dipping sauce had a sweet and spicy flavor that paired well with the dish. The shrimp dumplings were not so great. After one bite, I felt an immediate twinge in my stomach. I cut one in half to discover that there was hardly in shrimp meat inside. Maybe it was minced and therefore difficult to distinguish from the soft outer wrapping. Tried another one, but they were not worth it. My son and wife did not like them either (we recently ate at Titaya's in Austin and had to order a second serving of their shrimp dumplings because they were so delicious). We awaited the Pad Thai and Green Curry--staples at most Thai restaurants and therefore a good barometer of other dishes on their menu. After one bite of the Pad Thai, I put my fork down. I picked it up again and gave it another shot. NOPE, both terrible and inedible. My wife was so hungry that she said she was going to eat the Green Curry no matter what. WRONG, the shrimp had a frozen taste that permeated the entire dish. The after taste alone required extra drinks to try to drown out the bad taste in our mouths. We all agreed on the two dishes and decided to remain hungry and leave. We asked for the check. The waitress asked if we wanted to box the food to go. We politely declined. She looked confused. We did not comment, just said that we needed to be somewhere else by 9:30. We paid the bill without complaint and took off. We'll chalk up the loss to a well-learned lesson and will commit the experience to memory. WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT! Long review, but felt compelled to warn others who are seeking out a nice place for high-quality, flavorful Thai food. Here's our breakdown: Ambience: 1 out of 5, Food: 1 out of 5, Service: 4 out of 5 (we did leave a 20% tip and usually leave 20% or more at most restaurants, it wasn't the wait staff's fault that the food was bad and the restaurant did not meet basic environmental/sanitary standards). I have been to a number of Thai restaurants. The majority are very good so I am not exactly sure why this one seems so much better. It's not the location or the interior. I just can't believe this restaurant got all of these rave reviews. I have eaten here only two times, but how could it be things were "off" both times? First time I ate there it was "just okay". I ordered the Lemongrass chicken. A little on the bland side, chicken tasted like it was boiled. Thought I might give it another go, just in case: So three of us from our office, who all love thai food, ordered a selection to share. The pad thai was good, except for the chicken. It had a unusual flavor as if it had been near spoiling before they cooked it. once again -- boiled, not stir fried. We had the spicy basil w/ beef. After chewing a piece of beef for 3 minutes I had to use a napkin to get rid of it. It was obviously a cheap cut of beef with plenty of cartiledge that was never going to be broken down by human teeth. The last thing ordered was Red curry w/ chicken. Horrible, Not thick and rich like it is supposed to be. Very skim-milk thin with little to no flavor. We DID NOT FINISH OUR FOOD -- it was that bad. These two big guys who love to eat didn't even want to finish. I have eaten at a lot of thai restaurants because it is my favorite cuisine -- this restaurant is LOUSY in my opinion. Don't be put off by the outside. The food is delicious. There were 6 huge chicken satay per order, and the pieces of chicken were the largest I've ever seen in this dish. The grilled eggplant with chicken and shrimp had just the right amount of flavor and heat. I've had lots of red curries before, but never one with pumpkin. I wish more places served this dish. It's a bit out of the way from my place, but the food is cheap, especially during their lunch specials, they have a massive variety of specials and curries, and service is always friendly. As far as I know, Thai Dee is also BYOB, which is a nice plus! Parking is a massive headache during peak hours since the parking lot houses, maybe 20 cars, and the restaurant is next to a convenience store that already has reserved spots for their establishment, so avoid this place at peak hours. read more

We had vegetable rolls with plum sauce and pad thai during the week here. The prices were reasonable and the plum sauce was a highlight. The interior decoration is beautiful, the walls look like polished wood and the ambiance is so cozy and comfortable and welcoming. It's definitely a contrast considering Thai Dee is in a small shopping plaza. The drinks, whatever they may be, tea, soda, water, beer are served in these long, sometimes twisty modern-looking glasses. The waitresses are so polite and attentive and take care of you immediately. I was there with two girlfriends of mine and the waitress, who was dressed very pleasantly by the way, complimented us on some accessories we were wearing with wide smiles. Great experience, we never felt rushed since my friends and I stayed chatting after our meal for a little while. (We tipped generously, of course.) Great experience. My husband and I picked up food for dinner from here. It definitely is in a random little area and can seem shady on the outside. Inside, however, everyone was incredibly nice and friendly. I ordered my usual favorite Thai dish - drunken noodles, and ordered it with beef (I usually do NOT order beef because I am picky about my beef). I am glad I took the chance on it! The beef was easily the best beef I have ever had in Thai food. Overall, my noodles were a little bit too greasy for my taste, but it was still quite yummy. My husband ordered his favorite - panang curry with chicken. The panang curry flavor was outstanding! The chicken was also very tender and delicious. However, it wasn't his favorite because they used basil (a plus for me, minus for him). We also tried the vegetable spring rolls, which were quite delicious. All in all, due to the location we may not return - but I have to say I'm still craving more of that panang! read more

I have lived in the 210 for a long while now and have yet to find a restaurant better than Thai Dee. I would give a recommendation on what particular dish to try, but I have never been dissatisfied. Close your eyes, pick a dish, and enjoy. They're all amazing. The staff is also friendly. Read reviews and gave Thai Dee a try. Saturday night at 8 pm it was packed. Still got seated right away. My new favorite. Had egg rolls(good), the green curry and the ocean medley (seafood, veggies, and egg noodle.). The curry was fantastic. Rice came out shaped in flower mold. Kinda cool. We had ordered one with eggplant and they forgot the eggplant. Made a new one right away when we asked and brought a complimentary appetizer. Waitstaff was over the moon in attentiveness. Loved all but we like spicy and will stick with hotter entres next time. Curry came first so poor fish dish was good but suffered in comparison. Huge portions. Fantabulous. The servers worked together to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Our food came out very quickly and was of quality. The portions were enough for us to get full and take some to go. The only downside is that there isn't enough parking! But needless to say that probably isn't something they could fix because there isn't much space to expand. Yum! went for lunch, $8.99 lunch special gets you a small bowl of soup, 2 spring rolls and a large portion of whatever you choose from the lunch menu. I had the pad thai. Waaay too much food to finish :) Ya know how something is sooo tasty but you are tooo full but you keep eating anyway? Yeah, that. The pad thai came automatically with no spice, but you can ask for it. The cream cheese rangoons are delish and not your standard bland buffett style either. I was disappointed after all the things I had heard and read about this place. The vegetarian spring rolls were awful (too many noodles; too little veggies) and we asked for Thai Hot but the food was just warm. Also, one of my pet peeves - the ladies room was dirty and had no towels. There are better Thai places in San Antonio. I don't think that I'd go back to this place.
