I just sat in this restaurant with 3 friends for 15 minutes without being served. We were seated with menus promptly. At the time there was one other table of three people who had almost finished their meal. After 10 minutes another single patron walked in, sat down two tables away, and they were taking his order within 5 minutes. The staff was moving around and visible on the floor. We tried to get someone's attention (without actually getting up, because why should we? ), but to no avail. At that point we wondered whether the fact that our party included two people of color (the only two in the restaurant) might be motivating our treatment. Nothing specific happened to make us certain that this was the case. But we got up to leave and walked out without anyone asking why, or saying a word as we left. They clearly didn't care for our business and left us with only one plausible explanation. If it were anything else, (short staffed, too busy, emergency in the kitchen, whatever) they would have asked why we were leaving, and perhaps tried to convince us to stay. I had a craving for Pad thai and chose Thai Chili based on it's reviews. Unfortunately I don't share the same opinion as other reviewers about their food. I ordered the Pad Thai House Special for take out. The portion size was generous but the chicken and noodles were very, very dry. A little on the pricey side too. I love Thai Chilli, the service is prompt and fast, the people are so nice and make you feel very welcome and always ask how your doing! The food is very quality and fresh, some of the best Thai food I have ever had, and very affordable when your on a tight budget..youll actually have money when you leave! Visited here from out of town. The quality of food and service are so far below what the reviews suggest. Firstly, the table water was so chlorinated we couldn't drink it. We told the waitress and she didn't nothing about it. The coconut soup tasted like warm coconut milk with no seasoning. Our entree which was supposed to be spicy was excessively sweet. I am a weekly orderer of Thai food from various restaurants around greater boston. I LOVE Thai food and I have to say I ate the most delicious Thai meal of my life tonight at Thai chili. I got the spicy basil pad Thai and it was absolutely to die for. I saved half and I already can't wait till lunch tomorrow to eat the rest. My boyfriend got a seafood fried rice and it was equally delicious. Our server was extremely pleasant, friendly, and observant. 10/10 would go back again. I really wanted to love this place since I live nearby, but... We went on a Thursday night and there was only server in the restaurant who also had to function as the hostess, bus boy, cashier, and had to answer the phone, taking orders, deal with walk-ins who were either ordering take-out or picking up orders! She was a very nice person, but it was impossible for her to do it all. I truly felt sorry for her. But service suffered: a long time to take our order, brought one soup rather than two, white rice instead of brown and it took forever to get our check and our leftovers boxed. The tomyum soup was good, an eggplant dish ok, and the Pad Thai Basil dish awful. It was probably the worst Pad Thai dish I have ever had. The sauce was so thick the dish was a soggy mess. The sauce was so heavy, no other tastes (shrimp, chicken, noodles, etc.) came through. It had tofu in it, even though there was no mention of tofu in the description on the menu. It had no scallions even though the menu said it had scallions. Even though basil was supposed to distinguish it from the regular Pds Thai, there were only three soggy leaves in the whole dish and the stems had not been removed. The best Pad Thai I've had, period. On a cold day, it's great to walk over from the Clock Tower building and warm up with the yummy, sweet noodle soup they give you while you're waiting for your food. It's scarcely ever a long wait, either; the service is very quick, and extremely friendly (especially when they know you). It's inexpensive (compared to other lunch options in Maynard), and quick; great for lunch, good for dinner. It's a good idea to show up on the early side of lunch, as it's a very small establishment, and will get crowded. Avoid sitting by the door, if you can, in the winter, since it'll be pretty darned cold. I only eat the Pad Thai, but for that, at least, and thus for me, this is the best Thai place in the Boston area. read more

I went here last weekend with a visiting friend because we saw such great reviews. It was a mixed experience. First - the food - I ordered the curry puffs (delicious little fried bits of heaven) and smothered them in thai chili sauce. My friend ordered the spring rolls, but thought she was ordering fresh rolls. So, she was disappointed that they were not what she expected - but they were really good anyway. (I saw the fresh rolls at another table...they looked delicious.) I ordered red curry with shrimp. She ordered pad thai. Mine was AMAZING - the flavors were wonderful and lots of great veggies. Hers was a bit blah I am sorry to say - and I would not order that if I went back. My only complaint on my own order was that I was charged extra for rice...how else do you eat a very liquid curry? I have never been charged additionally for rice when I have ordered curry. This seems very odd to me, and a bit off putting. It is not that I can't spend $1 for an "enhancement" - it is the principle of the matter when you are eating something that literally cannot be eaten without rice! Now - the Service... The service was TERRIBLE! I wanted to order a beer, but it was like catching a fish with a piece of dental floss to get him back over to our table. We were never asked if we wanted another drink, and our water glasses were empty the majority of the time we were there. When we wanted to get our check it literally took them 20 minutes to take our plates and give us our check. Please keep in mind this is a TINY place - so, it really isn't difficult to see that we are finished and waiting for our check. Two other tables near us seemed to be having the same difficulty. So - I might get take out from here - but I wonder if it is really worth going back? Mine was yummy, but I still wonder how you can charge someone for rice when you can't eat the dish properly without it? I would rather they just charge me an extra dollar for the dish and include rice than charge me EXTRA! I think I will check out other places nearby and see how they stack up... read more

In town for business, and was looking for something better than the usual. Ordered the chicken red curry, which was delicious. Not particularly spicy, but lots of chicken, beans and other veggies. The service isn't quite as good anymore, and the quality of the food has somewhat deteriorated. My oldest was back in town and we went, and she commented on how it had changed. Too bad. Both times the food was quite tasty, it had good flavors and for thai food it was pretty good. The ambiance is cozy. The service was good and timely. The prices are affordable. We all get cravings for Thai food for lunch and this is the place that is hands down the best place in the area. Two of us are pretty knowledgeable about various Asian food so we are definitely picky. I love that they start you off with this tart, greasy soup with ramen noodles. It is the perfect balance of sour and I think lemongrass. I usually go for the spicy pad thai (although the chicken can get a bit rubbery but I don't really like chicken anyway) or the red curry. The red curry with beef is absolutely delicious. The creamy, buttery richness of the coconut milk with just the right amount of heat is complemented by a good-sized portion of protein and fresh vegetables. I love soaking the rice with the sauce and shoveling all that goodness into my mouth with a huge sigh of contentment. We have tried at least two other places close by but don't waste your time - go here and love it. read more

Absolutely amazing Pad Thai. Comparable, if not better than, Bangkok Hill in Lunenberg. HUGE portion, enough for 3 servings I swear! Great taste, lots of toppings, good tofu and shrimp, great value! Only complaint was that there was only one waiter on a Saturday night and they had TONS of orders for dine in and take out, so service was VERY slow. But as long as you are not in a rush (like I unfortunately was), you will love this place! read more

Delicious yellow curry! Plenty of peanuts in it with the right amount of spice. I've had a bad experience with Thai food that was altogether too spicy, but this yellow curry made up for it. The ambiance of the place isn't bad, if you avoid making eye contact with the owner/server. read more

Very good food for Maynard and for the $. I had the choochee curry with chicken and it was very nice. I also had some of the sweet and sour chicken which was not a nice, but I expected that. We were offered as much rice as we need. I will definitely go back for some more. My BF and I went here after reading so many good reviews on it. It is a tiny place that almost looks like someones home inside. We had a pretty short wait for a Friday night. We got dumplings for an appetizer and I got sake. The dumplings werent really my style but they were good. The sake was really yummy! I ordered the spicey pad thai and my bf got the crazy noodles which someone recommended on yelp. I loved my dish! It was just a little spicey and sweet. SO HARD to find good Asian food in the 'burbs -- this one is "worth the trip". Thai Chili is by far the best Thai restaurant around. Vegetarian Pad Thai, Butternut Squash Curry and Tom Ka Gai are the favorites in our household. But we've ranged a fair bit over their menu and never been disappointed. i was worried that when i moved out of the city i wouldn't have access to delicious thai food locally, but maynard has become an awesome little hotspot for great restaurants (cast iron kitchen is another great one). this isn't the best thai food i've ever had, but when it's good it's very good. i had their veggie pad thai, and it was pretty flavorless & oily, but i've also had several of their curries prepared vegetarian-style and those have been great. the only flaw in their curries is they sometimes overcook the summer squash & zucchini which makes it a wee bit mushy. overall though the flavors in their curries are fantastic and the curry itself is something i wish i could order by itself and drink. right now. i also love the raw spring rolls at pretty much any thai place (i don't know what it is! they're addictive) but i really enjoy the scallion shoots they put in theirs, it adds a really nice kick to the mix of veggies. i'd give it four stars but their veggie pad thai is really blah and i would avoid it. any of their curries are definitely four stars in my book, so go here & eat them. read more
