My go-to when I'm in the AV, or even SCV. It all starts with the complimentary crispy rice soup. I would drive from Santa Clarita for that soup. I have, several times, in fact. It's chicken broth and bites just hit the spot and get your taste buds ready for what comes next. The chicken sate is grilled to perfection. Tender juicy bites with a nice hit of char on the outside. The cucumber salad is a perfect compliment to the peanut butter sauce. We love the curries, green and red are consistent standby choices. But my favorite part, was that we ask for veggies instead of meat, and we get a cornucopia of veggies. Not just broccoli and bamboo, but water chestnuts, bell peppers, zucchini, baby corn, mushrooms, and basil, too. Noodles are always good. The pad Thai is not too sweet here, which I appreciate since so many places make it sweet. They also provide a complimentary small tapioca dessert that is just perfect. I've been coming to Thai Cafe for years. The service is always friendly here. They did go through a rough spell in the last year or so, where the timing got a little slow for my (and apparently many other yelpers') taste. But I am happy to say that upon visiting tonight, they are back on top of their game. read more

The krispy rice soup i have not found anywhere else. and the free tapioca they give for dine-in is so freakin good. The place is small and holds about 20 people but there is not usually a wait. We stopped in here at 430pm for dinner based on a recommendation. The restaurant was about half full. We stood at the counter to be seated and ended up waiting 20 minutes, even after flagging people down who said they would come back. If I was smart we would have picked another place by this point but I gave them the benefit of the doubt that the rest of the evening would be good after our initial wait. After we were seated the waitress said she would be right back to take our drink order. Another 20 minutes passes, then she goes up to us to take our drink order (we already knew the food we wanted as well by this point). For those keeping track this is 40 minutes before we even placed an order. We order our food and it comes out in about half an hour, which isn't so bad. The food all tasted great and was really well made. When it came time for our check we made multiple attempts to flag waiters down who said they'd be "right back to us". Long story short it took us 20 more minutes to get boxes and our check. We then put in our card and waited 10 minutes and the check was not collected. So I brought it up to a waitress in person. (A half hour total to get our check) This was honestly the worst service at any restaurant we have ever had. It does not matter how good the food is, we spent so much time in this restaurant waiting on the staff that it was a frustrating experience. I see some mentioning on Yelp to do "take out". We were seated next to the pickup area and I saw one person who had before coming in, over the phone placed a takeout order for egg rolls and a thai tea, sitting there for almost a half hour while they got his order ready. It does not matter how good your food is, your restaurant is simply understaffed. I would never come back here. read more

I've been wanting to try Thai Cafe for a while now but I never seem to have the time when I come home to SoCal. Today, however, I had my chance. I got to town right at lunch time and my grandparents were shopping at Target a few doors down. I convinced them they should try Thai and in we went. We weren't greeted all too quickly as they were busy today but we were greeted and given menues soon enough. My grandma ordered sweet and sour chicken as it is something more familiar to her. My grandpa ordered Mongolian Beef for the same reason. I ordered panang curry because I like it. It took a couple of minutes to get our water and a couple of minutes longer to get our soup. The soup was good. Different than anything I've had before. A crispy rice soup. Nice light broth with cabbage and a little bit of chicken topped with crispy rice. Interesting. Everything looked good. I can't speak to the taste of my grandparents food. They seemed to like their meals. My grandpa's only complaint was that the beef was not very tender. My grandma took her leftovers home. I ate all of my curry with spice level 3 (of 5). Warm but not too hot. Just perfect for me. It was loaded with bell pepper and basil. And lets not forget the chicken. Over all, not a bad lunch. My complaint here, service is kind of slow. It was a busy lunch time when we were dining in but it seemed slow even for that situation. This is our 2nd time coming here, today it took us a couple minutes before we got acknowledged. We were seated, got our drinks & ordered. Our food came out pretty fast. We got the mint leaves chicken & beef pad se ewe both in "mild". Mint leaves chicken was delicious & will definitely be getting that again. The pad se ewe was WAY TOO spicy! It completely ruined our meal but my husband didn't want me to say anything so we just ate what we could of it. We will be going again but definitely not adding any spice to our food. Ate here yesterday with my dad we had mint leaves and a chowmein with vegetables. The food had a lot of flavor and came out very fast and are waitress Isa was super friendly and seemed very good at her job. Theres only 1 thing that really ruined our trip here at cafe thai. There was a man from the kitchen and a older lady with green hair who I think was waitress to just hanging out in the register area where they usually work. While I was eating or coming to or from the mens room I kept catching them kissing or touching which made me very uncomfortable as a customer! Relationships are normal but to be this unprofessional while u r at work is very uncalled for in a place where family and children are eating!Very bad look for the business! Came here on Saturday for lunch and they were pretty busy. We got seated quickly. They redid the inside by putting up these little canopies which gives the place a nicer/cozier feel then from what it was previously. It took them awhile to get our drinks (including when needing refills) but they were very nice. My husband and I split the Pad Thai and the Pad Se Ewe- they were both very flavorful. We will definitely get the two again. It came with Crispy Rice Soup which was also very good. I highly recommend adding their chili sauce that is on the table if you like a little heat. Jay and Joey, twin brothers are the Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise of Thailand, as they so kindly explained to me and my wife. :-) Both Jay and Joey were fun to talk to and very gracious hosts who went above and beyond in their customer service to see that we were completely satisfied with our visit at Thai Cafe. My wife got the Bird's Nest which are thin crispy noodles covered with vegetables, tofu and a delicious sauce. I got the Pad Prik King, and I was in love with the way they prepared this popular dish, which included your choice of chicken, beef or pork with green beans. The spicy sauce on this dish was divine. It took 15 min for someone to come take our order then another 10 min for them to bring us water which was NEVER REFILLED EVER!Another 10 min to bring us the soup! I absolutely LOVE their peanut sauce/dressing. I always get it on the side & put it on everything! Depending on what you order, the peanut sauce some times will just already come with your meal. Literally the best Thai in the AV! I have been eating at this place since a little girl, and it's still my late lunch crave. Great service, great food, always enough to take home! There is a rush hour which typically happens around lunch time - however, this is the perfect place for dinner and sticky rice desert. I am rave about this place all day long, because I am a true Thai Cafe junky! My fav is the yellow curry with tofu (I'm vegan) and the mango sticky rice.... One of the best Thai restaurants in Lancaster. I was so excited when they reopened. They're currently not doing dine in or outside seating but they are doing take out and curbside pickup. The employees took more phone orders then caring for the people waiting at tables. 45 minutes later they finely started bringing out dumplings, then 10 min later soup (not with our rice). Portions are not as good as most other Thai places. We asked for #3 spice and they forgot to put it in. Brought me dry chili flakes to "add" to my meal. Pretty sure that's not how Thai is cooked as I have made plenty of dishes myself. Even people who had phone orders were standing around in this cramped place for 20-30 minutes. The food quality is getting worse probably because they are cutting corners to save money.
