We stumbled on this restaurant and what good fortune it was for us! We like Thai food, so thought - why not? New Bern restaurants have never disappointed us. We were immediately greeted by a pleasant young woman and offered a seat; she took our drink orders, and we were left to peruse the menu. We saw many tasty sounding items but decided on the Royal of the Sea, and the Sweet Angel entrees. The food arrived FAST, it was definitely FRESH and tasted soooooo good! We were very happy with our choices and decided to order dessert of Sticky Rice with fresh Mango....I will be dreaming of that sticky rice for days, and the mango was very flavorful and fresh. Order the dessert - thank me later. We also sampled the Thai Iced Tea....yes, this tea is wonderful, sweet and delicious - but it will make your pancreas work overtime. It's more like a dessert tea than a tea to have with dinner, for us anyway. The restaurant was very clean and flooded with light from the large street facing windows (love to people watch ) and the restroom was very clean (always important). I don't know if many small children would find items to eat here, but with fresh vegetables in almost every dish, there is something for all ages. Stopped in while visiting New Bern. It's a small but popular place! Hubby had a Singha beer; I had Thai iced coffee (which tasted like American iced coffee). We ordered Tom ka gai, Pork pad thai, and Pineapple pork fried rice - everything was very good! Service was quick as well. read more

A Thai food gem tucked away in downtown New Bern. Went with a party of 6 with 2 kids and were seated right away on a week night. The dining area isn't huge so our party took up majority of the middle dining area. Would definitely return here for a date night or for a meal with friends! Everything on the menu was good! Sorry, no photos because we devoured everything! We always eat family style and the portions were shareable. Our meat eaters and vegetarians were both happy. Lots of options for vegetarians (sub tofu for all the meats) without sacrificing flavor. They had a high chair option and a kids menu, but no place to change diapers in the restroom. The steps at the entrance deterred us from bringing in a stroller. Not the most kid friendly or accessible place so maybe consider take out if you still want to enjoy the delicious food. Overall, such a tasty place for all your Thai favorites- curry, pad see ew, Thai tea, mango & sticky rice! We had another exceptional dinner at Thai Angel tonight! The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, expertly prepared and always delicious!! The staff make sure your questions are answered & that you have everything you need for a memorable meal & a delightful evening. It's the only restaurant I've seen with a 100% food safety rating!! My vegan nephew who was visiting from California was super impresssd with the chef's offer to create an off-menu meal. He said it was perfection on a plate!! I visited this restaurant on my annual Coastal Carolina trip while staying in New Bern with a friend. We got in just before 17:00 on a cold Friday afternoon. There was ample seating available and we got a table that comfortably seated two. Service was quick and friendly. We didn't order apps, but they looked great. Thai food main courses always fill me sufficiently and theirs did not disappoint. I ordered a hot tea and they had a decaf green tea that was clutch for a cold evening drink. I've ordered Green Curry at so many places now that I might as well be an expert on the dish. Theirs was incredible! My friend ordered the Veggie Drunken Noodles - the flavor on these was sweet, a delicious contrast to my spicy Green Curry. Prices were certainly up there. Each of our dishes was $16. If you add apps or dessert, it would be hard to leave here for under $20 per person. However, the atmosphere, service, and quality seem worth it. Also worth noting, I have heard the owners are opening what looks like a trendy sushi joint just around the corner from here. Can't wait to get back to town and check that out! read more

The pictures didn't look that amazing so I knew it probably wouldn't be that great. I was right. And the prices are ridiculous. I had to add tofu for extra when that's normally not the case. Spent over $20 for mediocre. Walking by, the food smells delicious but I didn't like it. If the price would have been decent I wouldn't have feel a way about this mediocre food. We've eaten here and had takeout numerous times over the past several years. I wish I could give five stars, but it seems as if TA has been slowly sliding. This last time there were too many things to ignore. So, this review is written in hopes of feedback for improving back to where TA once was- an excellent restaurant! First problem was attitude on the phone. Be pleasant and helpful! Warmth can be felt in the tone of your voice. This seems to have been lost by the staff taking orders. Second, repeat the order to insure accuracy! We got a double order of spring rolls despite being confirmed by me. Thirdly, rice portions are ridiculously small. Come on, I've never had this problem at any Thai or Asian restaurant! It is literally the cheapest part of the meal! We have to order not one, but two extra to have enough for a meal for two! Fourthly, ingredients, especially proteins, are extremely skimpy. We ordered chicken on each of our meals. I literally got 3 pieces and my wife got 4 that were so small I could fit them in my hand! Plenty of carrots, onions, peppers, basil, etc, but for $12 there should be more than 3 or 4 pieces of protein. Lastly, the price for an order of spring rolls, 2 mains, and 2 extra mini-containers of rice was $50! It would be excessive even without the current state of the economy, high gas prices, and inflation. It really pains me to write this because we LOVE the flavors and authenticity of the food at TA. We don't want another great restaurant to go out of business! However, there are too many other eateries that are cheaper or restaurants that are fancier to lure diners away from here. A little training, a relook at pricing/ingredients/quantity, and tweaking a few things will keep current customers and attract new ones! Good luck! read more

We stumbled upon Thai Angel on a Tuesday afternoon in late November just as they were opening (literally hanging the OPEN flag). So happy we did! On a cold afternoon, the hot soup for starters quickly warmed us up. My wife loved her (GF) Tom Yum Goong soup. I had the Dumpling Soup (pictured), and it was outstanding! For Entrees, my wife had the Green Curry Chicken which she continued to rave about long after we left. I had the Sweet & Sour chicken. A bit heavy on the sauce (for me), but very delicious. Next time, I'm going for the General Thai Chicken! Our food was fresh, delicious and served quickly. The tables and overall restaurant appear clean and well-cared for. We'll definitely be back. There are several GF items on the menu (our server understood gluten allergy / Celiacs) and promised to mention to the cook; we had a safe & very enjoyable dining experience. read more

I love the downtown area here and feel of this eatery that was nicely decorated. It was easy to look over their menu in advance on Yelp so I could order over the phone...however, their website shows no prices on any of their meals so was VERY surprised by the high prices on the 3 individual meals we purchased (chicken pad Thai, chicken pad se ew, and chicken fried rice). It was good don't get me wrong, and the ingredients and flavor were very nice. Just really unsure if I was paying more for the location their at rather then for the food itself. I realize the prices have gone up on food, but broken down it equated to 16 plus dollars per meal. The price compared to the quality of the food and portion size itself just didn't add up for me. I am giving a 4 star since 3.5 stars isn't an up and the taste was good. The staff were friendly as well, but wasn't extremely pleased with the prices and portions. Thai Angel is a gem! My wife and I love this place. We dine out often, historically in the RDU/RTP area, including occasional trips to Chicago, NYC, San Francisco, et al. We recently bought a place in downtown New Bern and are transitioning there from Cary, and so are trying all of the many restaurants in the area. My wife is an excellent cook, and also had a Thai MIL who taught her how to cook many traditional Thai dishes. Thai Angel is the best Thai/Asian food in the area, hands down. Some of our favorites are the crispy vegi rolls, papaya salad, Thai General Chicken, Panang Curry, Drunken noodles, Pad Thai, and sticky rice with mango is a lovely dessert. We love spicy food and have a pretty high tolerance, though be mindful of your requested spice level, which goes from wow, this is pretty spicy, to OMG, this is crazy hot! :-) read more

Very good dining experience at Thai Angel last night! We felt lucky to get a table, as the local restaurants were jam packed for Mum Feast. Servers were welcoming and attentive. Most of the staff greeted us when we entered and when we left, and I thought that was very nice. We ordered the spring roll special (crab and avocado?), and it was delicious! I had Pad Thai with chicken, and it was perfect! Lots of chicken, plenty of peanut sauce, and not too spicy. My husband had the Pad See-Ew, and loved it! Lots of broccoli, chicken, and great flavor! We stopped in New Bern recently on our way down to the Crystal Coast. Yelp indicated opening at 3 but posted hours on door said 4. Owner saw us heartbroken on the sidewalk & unlocked/opened door & asked if we'd like to eat. Absolutely! We were blown away by the Owner's generous hospitality & thrilled not to have to find another lunch/dinner option. My Husband enjoyed a delicious Pineapple Cider with his meal. We started with the Thai Angel Appetizer (a delicious sampler of Thai favorites) followed by Chicken Pad Thai (Level 2). I should have taken pics but we were starving! The Chicken Pad Thai was by far the best that I've personally ever eaten. It has ruined me for all others going forward. I can't wait to have it again! Restaurant is bright & beautiful. I walked past this place so many times and today me and my wife decided to try it. The decor and environment was beautiful. We got the dumpling soup and fried calamari for appetizers. The Soup was delicious, broth was full of flavor and the chicken dumpling very tasty. The calamari came with sweet and sour sauce and was okay. As for our entrees we were both disappointed. I got the Pork Kapow and my wife the Red Curry with chicken. Mine was alright kinda bland but haven't ate all day so I finished it all.The pork wasn't seasoned, looking like it was boiled and the green pepper was still raw. The red curry was very watery and had too much ginger and only came with three small pieces of chicken . Overall I would give it another try just because I liked the dumpling soup so much. But for 50$ it's not going to be anytime soon. read more

I definitely recommend at least one stop here. I honestly have to say I was genuinely surprised to see how authentic the dishes were for a small town. The restaurant is only open five hours a day five days a week... not sure if it's due to the pandemic. So plan accordingly with their limited hours. We started with the chicken satay (seasoned and tasty) and papaya salad (we prefer a more authentic papaya salad with the shrimp paste) and the chicken & shrimp salad (refreshing... I personally like my shrimp with quick deep fry so it's crispy for my shrimp salad). Of course we had to wash down our meals with the Thai tea. As the entrée we had the chicken in the green.... Soft Shell Crab & Shrimp in the red curry.... DRUNKEN NOODLES ... ROYAL OF THE SEA ... and from the children's menu a chicken fried rice.... serving size was very acceptable.... and this is just my personal take on offering rice... I am just not used to paying extra for white rice. Ended with a STICKY RICE WITH FRESH MANGO..... so good! The decor was nice and simple .... facility was clean.... they had a laminate type flooring instead of carpet so you don't have that dingy leftover food smell lingering. The capacity was only able to hold about 32 people we got there about 6 PM and were seated right away with two other couples in the restaurant which was perfect. We've had good experiences in the past but it's been almost 2 years since we last dined here. Unfortunately, last night was a big disappointment! The service was efficient but even in fast-food chains, the staff is dressed to serve the public. One of our food servers was a lad dressed in a ratty T-shirt and shorts. The chicken satay was deep-fried, not grilled as it should be and as it's described on the menu. It was almost tasteless and very greasy. My wife ordered Pad Thai noodles with shrimp, spiced medium hot. It was just okay but very bland. The shrimp were extremely soft, so much so she didn't eat them. I had the fried rice. spiced medium hot but it was also bland and had the consistency of oatmeal, not fried rice. Along with 4 beers, the bill came to $74 (with tip) for the greasy satay, noodles, and fried rice. Maybe they just had a bad night, but we won't be going back! read more

I went to this place last Friday the customer service was more than I expected. I was greeted right as the door was closing. Which means a lot to me. There were enough servers that service moved smoothly. All the waitresses were very professional, and could joke around. I think once I ordered I waited less than twenty minutes to get my order and be on my way.
