This is certainly a fine dining restaurant. The food was presented and cooked well, and service was good. Would love to eat here again.

After a week of pub grub and clichéd British food, it was time for some curry. Yelp to the rescue!…read more We found Akbars just a few blocks from the train station, so it made a good stop after the National Railway Museum. I thought the dishes were fine quality, tasty and not too spicy. Good prices and good portions, suitable for sharing. Loved the atmosphere, with low lighting from chandeliers with red highlights and lounge music. It seemed more modern and hip than a standard Indian joint. The crowd was a mix of small groups of businessmen and tourists, with a few families like us.

Thanks, Adam! Wandering the streets after sightseeing, I let Yelp lead me to a top rated…read morerestaurant. I was not even slightly disappointed because Akbar's is an excellent curry house. Even though I walked in at 5:15, they were happy to see me and brought me to a table near the window. The menu was a bit strange - a solidly laminated sheet - but it had all the usual curries that I've come to expect in this country. And so instead of going with the usual, I let my eye choose. I started with the Liver Tikka. I've never had this before and I would recommend it. Not at all "livery", three good sized pieces arrived on a sizzling plate with some sauteed onions and a bowl of mint sauce. Th mint was a big help because this was seriously hot. Not spicy hot, temperature hot. Wow! For mains, the "handi" was listed as 'just like we have it at home' on the menu so I thought I'd give that a try. I chose lamb instead of chicken. It took about ten minutes (the waiter warned me it would be 15) and I also opted for two chapati to go with it. Again, very hot coming from the kitchen and it had a whole lot of flavor and spice, but it wasn't "hot" spicy just really tasty. Lots of small pieces of lamb in a sauce that is beyond description. Let's just say that it was excellent and the chapati was perfect for scooping. No dessert, but the cold bottle of Kingfisher was perfect (first time in a bottle, it's usually draft). A great meal!

Akbars - Family sized garlic naan. Enough for the family alright, or the family could use these bad boys for curtains.

Went to Joy Bangla just on a whim while living in Castleford - we fancied a meal but didn't fancy…read moregoing into Leeds. We were glad we called in, as the food was really good. We went for the Bangla Mix Cocktail for starter, which fed 2, and was a selection of onion bhajis, veg samosas, chicken tikka, sheek kebab, and chicken pakora. Each of the mini starters was delicious, nicely flavoured and spiced - hot without being too hot. I went for a Chicken Modumoti for main, being a fan of the slightly milder and fruitier curries. It's chicken cooked in a butter sauce with honey, coconut, almonds, sultanas, and cream. It was gorgeous, so full of flavour and spices. While I admit to being a bit of a wuss with curries (my spice limit is probably a Roghan Josh - definitely can't take a Madras on), I do like something with a bit of heat to it, and this hit the spot nicely. The thing that let this restaurant down for me mainly was the atmosphere - it was really quiet, and initially there was no music playing so we felt a bit self conscious while talking. I think this may have just been an oversight as halfway through our meal someone put the music on and it was a lot more comfortable. We've been back a couple of times since, and it's always been fairly quiet which is a shame, but does feel like a hidden gem.

We have been here many times. Really good atmosphere. Good service and good food. Consistent. A gem…read morein Castleford.

Visited this place last night, its a few years since I have been to an Aagrah restaurant and wanted…read moresomewhere within a few miles of the hotel I was in. The barstaff recomended the Aagra, I didnt realise how close it was (£15 taxi each way ) Also I had a guest from Milan with me who wanted to try a typical English night out. So we had 4 or 5 quick pints at the hotel and off for a curry !!! As the cab dropped the three of us off in the jam packed carpark I thought maybe should have booked - even though it was a Tuesday night ! The bar staff said the wait would be about 20 mins so we grabbed three pints and waited by the bar. True to their word 20 mins later we were shown to the table. Papads and dips duly arrived with the menus. We each had soup ( dhall for the other two and yakhnee for me ) the soup was very good - the chicken yakhnee is actually from pakistan and is mega spicy - think chicken broth with a dozen chillis per bowl ! Mains were chicken Madras for me, chicken dhansak for Mike and Lamb Passanda for Stefano. All mains were excellent, loads of meat, good sized portion and very (temp) hot. three rice , one aloo paratha one naan three sides , dhall makahani , aloo sag , channa masalla. two pints each one irish coffee , one expresso , one brandy. £100.00 with tip - so very good quality and very good value. Im back in Doncaster for the St Ledger and will probably book a meal here at night. If you are in the area and in the mood for Indian food you will be fine here - maybe better to book though !

There are two Indian restaurants in Louth, and in my opinion this one is the nicest! Ludensians…read morewill argue hotly for their favourite, though, so it's probably a matter of personal preference rather than any genuine superiority! The Raj Mohal is always busy, even on a week night, and they have various deals on offer in the week which make curry a really good value meal - such as a 3-course meal for two for £18. These deals aren't on offer at the weekend, but it's even busier then. It's a traditionally styled Indian restaurant, with velvet banquettes and candles on the tables and a dark, intimate atmosphere. Perfect for dates, in fact, as the tables are so nice and private! There's a good range of traditional India starters, main courses and side dishes, and the food tastes freshly cooked when it arrives. Service is quick and friendly, and of course you get hot lemon-scented flannels and After Eight mints at the end of your meal - what kind of a curry would it be without those?! There's also a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on offer despite a very small bar, and prices for those are reasonable too.

I have to agree with the other review of this restaurant. I have used both Indian restaurants in…read moreLouth extensively and as Indian food is my preferred restaurant experience I have tried many all over the country. This one ranks up there with the best. The prices are very competitive and the range on the menu includes all the typical Indian fare with a few specialities thrown in for good measure. The service is pretty fast and the staff are friendly, yet even though it's always quite busy they never try to rush you out. The setting is very much like one I visited in Norwich, with seating being in cubicles and quite dark so it is really intimate and even when busy the level of noise is quite subdued by the way it's laid out. Again for romance this is lovely, glittering candle flames in your lovers eyes is the best way to eat. I would definately recommend this restaurant if you like indian food and even more so if you want a romantic meal, with a bit of spice!
