The sloping wall seen in these picture is the result of the contractor not compacting the backfill before installing the steps. I incorrectly assumed that a company involved with this type of work would have known to do this step. I guess they saved $100 on a compactor equipment rental on a $15k job. The fact that they didn't appear to own any of the equipment they used should have been a sign that they don't normally do this type of work. Anyway if you want the job done right, probably best to go with a competitor, oftentimes low bid is not the best value.

Very affordable probably the best quote I had received. Years went on and I bought a home that had all rocks for a back and front yard. Instead, I had to go onto his website and schedule there. I went to the website and made an appointment. I was at the property 30 minutes prior to the schedule appointment time (window of 3pm to 4pm). I waited until about 3:15pm, still no word from the contractor. I went out front to see if maybe he had went too far down the block or something. No one in sight. I took a few minutes to run to the restroom. After the restroom, I noticed I missed the contractor's call by three minutes. I rang back expecting him to answer and explain that he was on his way or had arrived. Instead, it went to his voicemail. A few minutes later, I received a string of text messages from the contractor accusing me of missing the appointment, wasting his time, costing him gas money, and making him late for other appointments. Apparently, my stepping into the restroom for three minutes was out of the question. What kind of contactor works like this? I took time out of my day to meet this contractor as well. I guess my time as a client is not valuable to him in any way? He claims he waited for 20 minutes, but that is not at all true. I went outside searching for him and he had not arrived. Furthermore, why would he wait outside for 20 minutes and not attempt to call the contact number? When he finally did call, I only missed the call by three minutes. When I mentioned that I would be reviewing my experience, he only went on a further threatening tirade about he planned to comment back on my review about how much of his time I wasted. Ummm, you were not at the property when I checked at 3:15pm. I went to the restroom for a few minutes, I missed a call by three minutes, and then you refused to answer. If three minutes is unacceptable, it sounds as though you have some scheduling issues. Anyhow, DO NOT hire this contractor. He is terribly impatient, rude, and does not value your time as the hiring client.

I needed a curtain drain put in and the land graded because my first story would flood during heavy rain. The drain had to be dug by hand in clay soil (no heavy machinery) because the area that flooded was above my septic tank. They had a huge team out, on time, and on the days they said they'd be out. They were professional and communicative during the whole project. It's been a few years now with some very bad storms and that curtain drain has never missed a beat. It works hard year round and I have never had standing water in that area again. I would love to someday hire this company again.

Background - After growing very tired of an awful looking front yard at our previous home in Silverdale, we finally decided to hire a professional landscaper as my vision required equipment to handle the large granite boulders destined to be the focal point of the yard. After a short consultation Derek presented us with a wonderful design and we quickly gave him the green light. Within a week of starting work he was finished and boy did it pop! Compliments abounded from friends, neighbors, and relatives. We liked his work so much that two years or so later we hired him again, to do the back yard this time, complete with a water feature, large flagstone patio/walkways, and yes, more boulders! During the consultation and after learning I wanted a waterfall of sorts incorporated into the design to surprise my wife, he got absolutely giddy after seeing the perfect place. He walked up the short incline and pointing to the ground stated, "this is where the water will come out like a spring", then split into 2 separate and smaller falls/rapids wrapping around a small island of evergreen trees, and finally collecting in a large deep pool at the bottom where the recirculating pump would be located. He was so "stoked"! This project also turned out perfect and was so complimentary to the backyard. Photos of both yards are attached. So last year we decided to move to a new location where the front yard again needed some "TLC", i.e. new landscaping. I called Derek to see if he was interested and within a week or so he came for the consultation and then subsequent to that came out yet again to spend a few hours on site developing the landscape plan. Work on the 3rd project took 2 weeks to complete and a few photos are also attached. It is almost winter and so we will wait until he Spring to add plants, so it looks a little naked right now. It therefore goes without saying that Derek and his crew are top notch, professional, and most importantly, can be trusted as other Yelp reviews have stated. Regarding the work itself, the crew are very careful to position important landscape elements for maximum impact and are always interested in home owner input. If you don't care for the way something is looking, they will work with you to correct the problem. They are always careful to cleanup once everything was done and I cannot emphasize too much how much we again enjoyed working with Derek and his crew. Otherwise, why would we have used Randles Landscape & Design on 3 major projects?

No one except Will was willing to come by and offer advice. Will thoroughly showed me where the system needed updating and repairs for the 1.25 acres it was supposed to water. Later that year, Will personally installed updated Rain Bird stations (suggested I buy at Amazon to save money) while his crew completed the necessary repairs. I wanted his company to do the project because of Will. Will is a person of integrity, honesty, and someone who you can trust to stand by his work. Since then, Will's staff has completed additions to other areas for watering, essentially relieving us from manual watering. Last year, I asked Will to add a few large rocks to the front yard. Will instead offered an idea of how to completely reimagine the front yard areas. After a few meetings with Will and Sandy, we came up with a blueprint which included a waterfall, moving 3 existing Japanese maples, creating a long walking path with steps, low intensity lighting. And most importantly, dotting the areas with varying species of pine trees and plants. Sandy was very informative in helping us select plants to complement our new landscape areas while blending themes for areas we wanted to keep from earlier landscaping projects. Will and Sandy also created plateaus, mounds and other uneven areas to create a more natural look. The project was completed as proposed. No cost overruns, no unanticipated additions, no delays. Will's staff diligently transformed our front yard to our shared vision. We have been asked by neighbors and strangers to share who completed the project. The most time consuming part of our project was permitting. The City of Bothell was exceptionally helpful, even though City Hall is closed. Bothell worked with us as well as Atlas Paving online and by telephone to get our permit. Jay at Atlas was helpful in arranging barricades, flaggers and signs as well. When we finally got all the ducks in a row to do the job, the crew from Atlas did it very well, and in a timely manner. We're happy with our new driveway.
