Was a great experience. I received an online quote for the text books they would buy back after I listed the ISBN numbers.

Carefully curated into sub-genres, there is a book for every reader in this space. Beautifully lit and bright, the store appeals to readers of all kinds. Their children's book room has the latest reads that kids love along with accessories like stickers and bookmarks. All of which I appreciate as an elementary school librarian. They even placed a special order for me for a classic book (The Iliad) which was not on their shelves. I appreciate a small, well appointed bookstore and this fits my requirements perfectly. I am looking forward to joining one or two of their many book clubs.

As far as the store, they've recently expanded! It's been so cool to see their business grow. I've attended Friday Night Writes and there's plenty of space to hunker down with fellow writers and get some writing done. I've done one author signing event with them, and the space they had for me to set up was perfect! The selection of books is vast, and if they don't have what you're looking for in stock, the process to order it is so easy. I preordered two books, and one has released. The pick up process was super easy and I will definitely continue to preorder with Thistle&Nightshade. (my next preordered book won't release until March next year but I anticipate a simiarly easy process.) Both Alyx and Annie are knowledgeable with their stock and have great recommendations if you're looking for one. There are also blind dates with a book, trinket and bookshelf items to choose from to zhuzh up your shelves!

However, after visiting, I would say this place is much more of a bookstore than a record store. If you're coming for the books, it's actually a lovely spot with a wide selection of books across different genres. Unfortunately, the record and CD section was a bit of a letdown. From what I was told, the music section is managed separately from the bookstore and opens later in the day, around 11 or 12. I returned around the time I was given, but the person opening that section was running late, so I ended up waiting an additional 5-10 minutes. After waiting, I was disappointed to find that the selection was fairly limited, with most of the CDs and vinyl focused on older rock and alternative music. I was hoping to find a wider variety of genres. On the positive side, the staff were very nice, and there is a large parking lot out front, which makes parking convenient. Overall, I think this is a great bookstore, but if you're specifically visiting for the records and CDs, you may want to manage your expectations. I probably wouldn't return for the music section, but the bookstore itself is worth checking out!

I recently visited Mystic Rose. I would give the ladies working there five stars for their customer…read moreservice and giving us information regarding their classes. (You can find their class schedule on the web and I would definitely say that is worth a look-see!) There is parking right in front of the store and it is just off S Virginia St, easy to find. The reason for the three stars has to do with inventory. This is not a large shop so one has to consider space available for merchandise. However, there was not much of a selection and the prices were fairly high. I realize that it is becoming harder to run a brick and mortar store front everyday, but I found the merchandise to be "stale" and dated. (ie: no latest tarot decks, books, etc.) I also felt like if I were to return in a month or so, it would look much as it did the day I visited, with the same merchandise in the same place. It may be that "Mystic Rose" concentrates more on the classes and readings and such, but that's not why I came. I miss the well-stocked metaphysical shops of the past and would love to see a sample tarot deck or book before I purchase it... I guess those days are gone.

I had time to peruse the selections thoroughly. I particularly enjoyed the large selection of crystals, and the availability of guides and books that explain how to use the crystals. I ended up buying a hunk of Angelite, and I'm happy that I did. Their selection of divination cards is small, but, again, a nice variety. In particular, I was pleased to see that they carry the Animal Wisdom Cards. I complimented the store owner on this, and we had a nice conversation about the uses and power of this particular deck. There are a few more items upstairs. There is a large second room that is used for classes. I only had a few short days in Nevada, which precluded taking any classes. If I were in Reno for a longer visit, I would definitely want to sample a class or a reading. Small, yes, but a solid, representative selection of various items. You'll never find everything in the world here, but you'll get a nice variety and/or introduction.

Five Dog Books is not very easy to locate. It's on a residential street in a converted house with a…read moresmall sign out front to declare the treasures inside. I mentioned this to the owner; he replied that he only wanted the serious book buyer to find him. I think he succeeds in this wish rather well. He also has the most messed up hours I've ever seen and he rarely keeps them, so it's nearly impossible to visit more then once. The shop isn't incredibly large, but every room is tastefully shelved and in proper order. I felt, though, that I was not allowed to simply shop. The owner insisted on reading excerpts from his favourites tomes. All I wanted to do was to shop for a few books, I did not want to entertain "open mic night"! While the selection was incredible, the owner was annoying and just wouldn't leave me alone. He only accepts cash and there is no wheelchair access. Both of which are not good for me.

Ah Five Dog Books. I have a lot of misgivings about the place. Located in the old residential…read moresection of Holcomb Avenue (fairly close to the Citgo on South Virginia), Five Dog is located in a somewhat rundown house. The sign is no longer than, having been taken down. Manuel does indeed have the most inflexible hours that I have ever seen, the store is more by appointment than having any actual set hours and he is somewhat eccentric. His selection of Great Basin history/Native American history is absolutely excellent, as well as his selection of philosophy and literature. He does tend to go around quoting Jorge Luis Borges quite frequently, which makes it irritating to actually concentrate on browsing for books. He does not accept anything but cash or checks, which is also quite frustrating and will occasionally decide not to sell a certain book to someone after they have made a selection. Why are the books on display and priced if you do not want to sell them? Very irritating. If you venture to explore Five Dog Books, bring cash with you and have two or three hours to devote to talking to Manuel. Despite his limited hours, his knowledge of literature is incredibly diverse and voracious and his literary insights are fascinating. You will learn something when talking to him.

The services are open to the public, but your prayers can be fulfilled with a bought on your knees your lighting a candle anytime you need. The Catholic population of Reno was vast in the early years with no place of worship or fellowship. The cornerstone of the church was laid in 1906. In June of 1908 the cathedral was dedicated. All worship services were in full swing, but a fire destroyed the roof in 1909. It was rebuilt and rededicated in 1910 where it still stands tall for all to come. The first Bishop of Reno, Thomas Kiely Gorman was set as the Diocese of Reno. Through the years many restorations have taken place to retro fit the foundation. In the 1950s a wrap around mural surrounding the alter was installed. A one of a kind mural painted by Edith and Isabel Piczek, is considered "to be one of the finest works of its kind in America." The theme of the mural depicts "Adoration of the Lamb of God, our Lord in the Blessed Eucharist." The message of the mural depicts how important the modern family should accept sacrament for communion for their lives and the community. The murals presents images of "Saints from the Old Law," Abel, Moses, Ruth, Abraham, and Isaac in all their glory. Depictions of John the Baptist and the Lamb of God are presented in all majesty. The call of angels is a truth of faith in Catholic teachings. The door of St Thomas is adorned in all copper with two angels on either side. We dwell in constant companies of angels keeping us safe. It is interesting that the Saint Aquinas, related discussions of angels to location. This saint discusses: "could an angel be a non physical being said to occupy space?" The realm of the angels these days and the early thoughts from Aquinas have led to much of the mechanics of quantum physics. It's a mighty majesty to place angels and you can ponder their glory in an Aquinas dedication to his reverence. As the large copper doors are open to all. Come in and find yourself.
