A few months ago, i went there and talked to some nice young people who seemed to have a good coin knowlege base and honesty. A few days ago, i went back and had to deal with the old guy there. This place is a rip off. I took some good product to them. The man first said it was good then he changed his mind. He then started talking to me like i was a 5 year old and had no knowledge what so ever about any kind of coins. He belittled me. I should have seen the writing on the wall, taken the coins and run. He managed to spew out some mumbo jumbo about his opinion, yada yada. It was embarrassing. He said my coins were not that good, and gyped me out of fair market price. Two of my boys and I were in town to surprise my father-in-law for his 70th birthday. The boys wanted to go to a coin shop while we were here. They treated me like I was bringing in counterfeit metals. They held me in there for around 30 minutes to figure out what I already knew. The friggin gold was real. A funny way to treat a customer when the are bringing in business and basically handing you cash. They also treated me like I didn't even matter when I had a substantial amount of metal to trade with them. The guy just walks up and barely looks at me and low balled all the metals I had, and treated other customers who weren't even doing business with him like royalty because they were older I guess. Needless to say, I walked out with a bad taste in my mouth. I think it may be new people because it feels like a pawn shop now. Honestly I'd rather go to a pawn shop. American gold and silver is way way better and fairer prices. I'll never go back here again. read more

Poor selection, snotty employees, tries to scam anyone selling coins. Says all coins are worth melt price when the buy but worth 15 times that when they sell. Generally a shady dealer nowadays. read more

Very nice store, wide selection. Offers new spiraled bound 2013 red books but insists they "don't go by the red book" and "our prices are based on what we had to pay" While I admit this accounting principle does make some sense if the buyer agrees to pay (no kidding) 30% above fair market value. I asked them to show me a coin that they purchased at a bargain so I could share in their good fortune but the response grew more and more chilly. I tried to show my dad examples of proof coins but quickly learned that they were better off back in the case. I even bought a capped bust half dollar to show them I was not just wasting their time but got the distinct impression they could not wait to lock the door behind me. So much for Southern hospitality. Bottom line, if you have scads of unwanted cash and care nothing about resale value, visit their clean, well lit store. read more

Great coin shop. I called several shops in Tyler and Texacan gave me the best offer. $10.00 over the spot price of gold for one ounce American Eagles. Another shop in Tyler gave me the lowest offer, $100.00 below spot per coin. One of the other reviews was BS because they said they talked to a rude woman. No women work at Texacan. I delt with Barry, he was a perfect gentleman. Very Honest. I will certainly give them my business in the future. By the way, they are on the 3rd floor of the Chase Bank building. I didn't know it but there are about 30 other businesses in that building. read more

Whoever the lady that answers the phone is rude as hell. I just called about a ring that is possibly stolen and before I can get out the description she just said "it wouldn't be here" and hung up in my face. There is no telling how much stolen property goes through this place. read more

My experience was much like everyone else. They are rude and not willing to negotiate anything. WAY out of line on price. I would not recommend them to anyone for any reason. There are plenty of dealers out there working for an honest profit and not trying to gouge their customers. read more

My experience with Texican was positive. I was visiting Tyler and found out the shop had a particular coin I was looking for (a draped bust half dollar). I didn't quite make it to the shop before closing time, and since it was the weekend and I wasn't going to be there the next Monday when the shop reopened, I was afraid I'd miss a chance to check out the coin. I called to let them know I was running late, and they graciously kept the shop open an extra 10 minutes to give me time to get there. The coin was indeed what I was looking for, and I thought it was appropriately graded by Texican (it was not a slabbed coin) and fairly priced. I'm happy to recommend this shop. read more
