First of all there is a great and friendly staff to help you with what you may need. Also some very interesting and unique items in the store! Knives and tactical flashlights just to name a few! I've been a regular customer of Mr. Toby's for several years now, and consistently, he has provided superb service at very reasonable prices. He has repaired my conventional (i.e., regular movement - self-winding/automatic) wristwatch, and he also fixed an old Accutron wristwatch and a SEIKO quartz model for me. Whenever he has set a date for pick-up (or, for delivery; he did that for me, as well), the work was done, and done well, by the date he said it would be. I've never had any problems with any of the watches that Toby has fixed. I recommended the Watchmaker to my neighbor in Tyler, and they also were extremely pleased with the service and pricing. read more

Y'all need to check this place out! I went to get my ring soldered where it had split from being resized, and not only did they do the job for 1/4 of the price of James Allen and Jared, but they had the job done in less than one day!!! My ring looks brand new. read more

Can't say enough about this store. I came here looking for a microtech knife. All I can say is wow he had a huge inventory on display it was hard to decide. So I was back and forth on which one I wanted. He asked me if I had seen any of the customs. Now these are knives I figured would be look don't touch or put on some white gloves to hold. He picked them up and handed them to me. Told me about the materials used in each knife. They were works of art. It was a amazing experience and got my mind off which one am I going to get. Pretty sure he knew which knife I wanted because as I went to tell him he already had a Dirac Delta in a sealed box in hand laughing. Thank you for such wonderful service. read more

Beware!... stopped by to purchase watch tools and none were for sale so I asked to take links out of my brand new Dufrane watch. He said $20, I say cool. i pull the plastic off and we size and he goes to his desk and proceeds to BANG with his tools on the screws of the link. After 5-10 hits he jokingly says oh well they aren't coming out that way, relaxing they are screws. He then takes the links out and puts the links away, takes my $20 and I leave. The whole time carrying on a conversation with his two coworkers about bringing in someone with 30 years experience and what he could offer, not once giving me his full attention. Called back a day later to ask about replacing the screw and link with damaged threads and his response was to "replace them". After some silence I said it was his fault and I wanted him to replace them. He left the conversation saying to bring them by, but after the experience in person and the way you treated me on the phone I want nothing to do with this place. read more

Broke the crystal in a vintage watch of my wife's. We called around and this was the only place in town that said that they should be able to do it in house. We live about 35 miles away so took the watch up today and he had a crystal of the proper size, installed it as we waited, the other location said that they would have to send it out. We were in and out in about 20 minutes. Will definetly go back for future needs. read more

I give this establishment, Watchmaker, one star because they were pleasant to talk to but that's where it ends. I was in Tyler for a convention and my watch stopped so I googled the nearest location to have a battery replaced and unfortunately Watchmaker was the closet and I did not check the reviews. My brother and I entered the shop and asked how much to replace a battery and they said $20. At that point I should have left because it usually cost no more than $8 to $10 to replace a watch battery. While he was replacing the battery I noticed that it looked like he almost broke or snapped the watch band. He then proceeded to make additional adjustments to the watch band. After he was done he told me that several of the links on the watch band needed to be tightened or adjusted and he usually charges $20 each but he would only charge me $20 for the battery and $20 for the adjustment and if that was okay. It was not okay but we were from out of town and out of the state so I agreed and paid reluctantly. Typical if you take anything to be repaired regardless of what it is if there is additional repairs needed usually the shop would let you know what needs to be done, the cost and get approval prior to doing any work. Not so here. First and last time to this establishment. They lost my business as well as any of the other 1,000 convention goers with me for $40. read more

I wanted to get a professional opinion and insurance appraisal on the Rolex my father gave me. I did some calling around and decided to have it looked at by the watchmaker here in East Texas. Upon arrival I was given undivided attention by the staff. I told them what I wanted to accomplish. Immediately the Rolex was placed on a small machine that worked like a stethoscope to listen to the heartbeat of the watch my father gave me,(it was healthy). Toby gave me the history of my generation of Rolex. It was very interesting. He gave me pricing to clean/maintain the watch (half as much as Rolex charges) and an appraisal for my insurance company. Wow, I was in desperate need of 2 specialty batteries that if I had a few days to wait I personally could have ordered off the internet for a total of $4.95 for a pack of 5 of the same ones the watchmaker sold to my wife for $20.00 for 2 batteries. Like I said I was in need but I will order the batteries off of the internet so I will have these on hand as my business will not be done by way of the Watchmaker. read more

I took my MK watch to the watchmaker to have the battery replaced and he told me that I also needed to have the movement hands set so I agreed to have the work done. I very seldom wear this watch, so about 2 weeks later I decided to put the watch on and then I realized that the time was not correct, so I set it to the correct time but I thought that was odd because I just replaced the battery. I wore the watch all day and it was not showing the correct time and I always had to set it, so I decided to take the watch back to the watchmaker. I took it back on Friday, April 20th and was told Toby was out of town and would be back on Monday and they would give me a call, I heard back from them on Thursday, April 26th. The sales lady tells me that the movement hands has fallen off and I need to send the watch back to MK. I tell her that's what Toby was suppose to fix when I brought in for a battery, and then he (Toby) gets on the phone and starts to over talk me when I explain to him this problem was suppose to already be fixed because that what I paid you for. He got angry and hung up the phone on me. I am going to pick up my watch and then go and file a small claim against him because he damaged my watch and now want me to send back to MK. MK didn't break my watch, he did!!!!! So if you read this review please, please, please do not go to the watchmaker for ANYTHING he will make the issue worst and he is a rude and hot headed business owner.
