I pop in here regularly for smoking chips, the occasional new set of probes for my thermoworks thermometer. Staff are always helpful, and quite knowledgeable. Though covid makes me a little more leery of free food and drinks, they tend to have drinks and smoked meats to sample over the weekend, which can be fun. If you ever have any issues with a purchase, they'll work with you to make it right. Can be pricey at times, but you get what you pay for and the prices are competitive with what I see online anyways. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to go touch a product and see it before purchasing, and have instant gratification when you need something randomly. read more

If you're needing to fill your propane tank, this place is outrageously expensive. It cost more to fill a standard outdoor grill tank (I paid almost $30) than it does to buy a filled tank with exchange at ACE (down the street) for $25. Moreover, I found a place off hwy 6 near the Walmart and whataburger (near westpark tollway) that will fill the same tank up for $12.00! That's less than half the price! However, it's the people and staff at Texas Star Grill Shop that really made the difference and owning this grill a pleasant experience. I waited a while to cool off before I decide to write this review... Based on the advice of two of my coworkers who had shopped here in the past, I came into the West U. store on June 3rd in order to investigate replacing the outdoor grill that came with the house. I wasn't looking for anything special or over the top, and wanted to consider my options of either replacing the existing grill or putting in a pellet grill. Armed with pictures of the existing space as well as measurements, I was ready to purchase. I was greeted upon arrival by Juan who was very friendly and wanted to help. Just as we started the conversation of what I was looking for, Juan's boss came over and took over and dominated the conversation; I didn't catch his name, but let's call him Tall Guy with the Beard, with the loud voice who invades your personal space. He immediately grabbed my drawing out of Juan's hand, as well as the phone in my hand that had a picture, and really didn't let Juan - or me - have a word in edgewise for the rest of the visit. Tall Guy said we needed to go look at the DCS grills as they were on sale and they had a whole 18 wheeler load of them in stock. They were nice, but way beyond my price range - Tall Guy was insisting I needed a grill that cost over five grand after a $700 installation charge; expressing some hesitation, Tall Guy said he wouldn't sell me something cheaper because they weren't as good as these were close to commercial kitchen grade (ironically, despite having an 18 wheeler full of these Tall Guy said it would take six weeks to deliver them). Tall Guy wouldn't listen or understand that I didn't have a commercial grade right now, and really wouldn't listen on what I came into the store in the first place. This went on for quite a while with his loud voice, not realizing I'm getting visibly frustrated, and getting right on top of me invading my personal space. He was very condescending to Juan, who was trying his best to steer the conversation to my original request and hopefully get a sale. It looked like there was a lot of neat stuff in the store, as well as probably having what I came in there for in the first place, but I will never know because Tall Guy wouldn't back off and leave me alone. Needless to say, I gave the age-old excuse I needed to talk to my wife about it because of the cost and left the store. I will be on the hunt for a new replacement or pellet grill somewhere else. In other words, the experience here left a lot to be desired and I would 100% recommend you go somewhere else. read more

I bought a natural gas grill, and there was a defect in the Chinese-made hose that connected my house's gas outlet to the grill. This really isn't Texas Star Grill's fault, but the defect was inside the grill where they connected it. The hose didn't look identical to their other hoses, so it could have been caught by the assembler. That's the bad news. The good news is the they called me back right away, and gave me a replacement hose which worked fine. They were very apologetic and even gave me a fair discount on some accessories I bought after resolving the leaking hose. I was satisfied by their customer service, and I can't think of a reason to stop shopping here, and I am a cranky old man who HATES Houston's near universal crappy customer service. read more

I drove here looking for something because no one answers the damn phone. When I arrived I saw 3 employees hanging out chatting. I called the store from inside the store and no one answered. We were considering getting a smoker/grill and stopped in to see what Texas Grill Shop had to offer. I was greeted by David, who did a great job of listening to my questions and helping me to understand what the various options were. I gravitated towards a kamado style vs. traditional style with specific interest in the Kamado Joe. I left to think about it and to do some research with my plans being to return the next day. While researching the Kamado Joe, I found a different local retailer had the same unit on sale. The next day I called your store to inquire about price matching. Unfortunately, Gus (manager) answered the phone and informed me that David was not in at the time. I let Gus know that I had come in the day before and was considering the Kamado Joe. As soon as I mentioned price matching, he cut me off and proceeded to tell me that no one would have it for less unless it was a floor model or damage unit. I informed him that was not the case and repeated my question about the price matching. Gus asked what the amount was and were did I see it. After I told him, he started bad mouthing the other retailer. I repeated my question about price matching and finally got an answer that included him telling me that I needed to bring him written proof and he would let me know. I found his approach on the phone to be somewhat unprofessional however due to my experience I wanted to give David the sale. My wife and I dropped by the other retailer and confirmed the unit along with the pricing. Went back to Texas Grill Shop to share the details and purchase the unit. David was there however with another customer, there was another sales person that offered to assist us and when I communicated to him about my price match inquiry and the call earlier he ask that I hold on so that he could get Gus. Gus turned out to be worse in person than he was on the phone. He was condescending, rude, argumentative, and dismissive. He would not listen to me nor allow me to complete my statements. Gus not only informed me that I did not understand what price matching is nor how it works. He even attempted to play on words related charging $100 for delivery by telling me that if I wanted him to price match that the price match would be $100 additional and delivery was free. Gus also attempted to challenge me on what information David had provided the day prior regarding the contents of the purchase, specifically the cost of the cover and the delivery timing of the unit. Just before we were at a point of walking out David was made available. David came over and confirmed the information that was already shared with Gus and took over the conversation with us. We decided to complete the purchase with David, who was able to deliver the unit later that day. I wrote a letter to the owner to inform him of our experience and to provide him insights to Gus' behavior of Gus and the impact his behavior has on the customer experience. Being candid, we would find it hard to do business with or inform friends about Texas Grill Shop if that experience means there would possibly be an interaction with Gus. Came here after reading great reviews about selection, service and price. I found they had only one small natural gas grill on the floor. The salesperson left to talk on the phone to someone else while helping us. I then asked them about a grill I found online that they are a distributor for as well. They quoted me a price about $200 more than buying directly from manufacturer. They did price match but then said I'd have to pick up the grill myself from the store after initially boasting that I should buy from them because they deliver for free. I went home and ordered it directly from the manufacturer for even less since they had a promo for July 4th and got it delivered for free. With the weather starting to warm up (or REALLY warming up as was the case yesterday), we decided it was time to get a grill and start enjoying our backyard to the fullest. So yesterday afternoon we set out to the Texas Star Grill Shop to buy one. The location is very convenient, just off 59. They have a wide selection of gas grills and lots of grilling accessories, but the charcoal grill options were very limited. Really there was just one or two and both were in the $1k + range which was more than we wanted to spend for a grill. We were a bit surprised that no one greeted us or offered to help. We wandered around for a while without any contact from an employee. I would recommend this store for gas grills provided you visit during less busy times and are able to get some staff assistance. For charcoal options I'd skip this store unless you know you want the Summit smoker model. We found a good selection of other Weber models at Bering's. read more

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Have bought two pricey smokers over the last 7 years with them. First, a Kamado Joe (Green Egg clone) and last year, a Green Mountain Grill Davy Crockett (akin to a Traeger pellet). Both items were well priced and have bee great quality. Texas star delivers the items to your house and sets everything up and then gives detailed instructions/demonstrations. The owner and his wife delivered our Kamado Joe themselves and chatted with us for a while while visiting our home. Nice people. I had never heard of GreenMountain Grills but Texas Star suggested it. I definitely had to study the instruction book but I have been pleased. And GreenMountain's customer service has been outstanding and well as the warranty. Therefore, I am so pleased with the advice given by the staff at Texas Star Grills. When I go through the store for supplies like pellets, the staff offers great recommendations on seasoning, rubs and cooking recipes and "tricks of the trade". read more

Quite simply, this shopping experience was so disappointing, I felt like I went into a New Orleans peep show expecting to see Jenna Jameson and what I got was the women from The View. Yes, that bad. Do not be fooled by the word "Grill" being in the name. It has nothing to do with BBQ equipment, in any way, shape, or form except that they are shaped like BBQ pits. What they sell is one type of "cooking unit" (it is not even worth calling them pits) and they are based on the most horrid and blasphemous of all premises - an ELECTRIC mode of making BBQ. I am not kidding - they sell ONLY one brand of cooking equipment and it is a pit that has an electric smoker attached where you pour in "pellets that make smoke like charcoal and wood" and then it "smokes" the meat. Apparently, these bags of pellets come in different scents - such as applewood, mesquite, etc. Though nothing is natural in this place. I have been horrified before - the movie Event Horizon is one such horrific movie - and this shopping experience made me gasp in horror and I felt sick to my stomach. When the sales lady explained the concept to me I was shocked. I said "um, is this all you have are these things?" and she said "Well, yes, you see, these electric smokers..." and I stopped her mid-sentence and said "Electric?" She paused and then said "well, this takes all the guess work out of the fire like coals, see, you have these pellets..." I held up my hand and said "Just stop there. You have taken all the fun out of grilling and smoking. This is sacrilege. Seriously. Just let me look around and see what else you have." I wandered around, my heart sunk to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico because I was hoping for a grill store to be near my inner loop enclave. Alas, was I wrong. Save your money, save your soul, avoid this place. Sure they have spices and marinades but I gotta tell you, folks, you are better off buying them anywhere else - they made Whole Foods look like Fiesta pricing on brisket rubs. You read that right. This is not grilling. You don't plug a grill into an electrical socket and then build a BBQ-like pit around it. Which, essentially, is what they did - the whole thing looks like a legitimate pit, but they are nothing more than an electric smoke box with pellets. Not even wood. This is so sad, so disgusting, that it shakes me to my very Texas core. Stop in for the novelty, sure, but be disgusted by the concept. Overpriced product, overpriced accessories, and something that is so horrid to make one puke, note that you have been warned. Who thinks up of this devilry? And honestly, how much of a lazy as* do you have to be to not even use charcoals or (God forbid) propane? To make up for my sadness, I walked down the strip to Nan's Game and Comics and bought the latest issue of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comic book and I cheered up. read more

Yes, the smokers are expensive, but well worth the price, as you will find that you can use it for virtually anything. The product is top of the line and you will NOT be disappointed with it. Good stuff. Ignore Gilberto's snarky review and try it for yourself. Ask the sales person when they will be having an event where you can try their meat if you are skeptical. I went to an event at Pete's Fine Meats where they had turkey legs, sausage, steak, and boudin and it was all excellent.
