I've seen the Texas Star Bakery while driving past and thought, I wonder if it's good. This morning I had a craving for eggs but had no bread and thought... Texas Star Bakery! I walked in and much to my shock there is no bread or buns to be found. They should rename it Texas Star Cakes. Gorgeous cakes. The kinds of cake that land on the cover of food magazines for their creative use of fondant to resemble adorable monkeys or daisies that look real. Even better, Texas Star Bakery carries all kinds of flavors of cake and make them in cupcake form for easy carry out. The lemon buttercream is good. The chocolate with chocolate buttercream was the perfect amount of chocolate. Not too much so your mouth is gasping for a dairy product but not too little where you're like "Stop teasing me". My favorite is the Almond cupcake with raspberry filling. Go by yourself some cupcakes people. This little gem deserves your business! Texas Star Bakery makes the absolutely BEST strawberry cake ever and they're reasonable to boot. a 10" cake will cost you $10 and this sugary strawberry smell will hit you whenever you open the cake box. Their cakes are light and fluffy with just the right amount of frosting. If strawberry cakes are not your style they also offer an array of pies cookies, cupcakes and bars out of their display case. Cupcakes usually sell for $2 each. Just make sure that if you're ordering a larger size of baked goods or you want to guarantee that they have what you want, make sure you call ahead. I ordered a double layer 8inch cake and paid a deposit on it. Somehow there was a mixup and my cake was not made when I went to pick it up. I am a person that realizes that mistakes happen but Texas Star Bakery went above and beyond with their customer service. They replaced my lost cake and added another cake for free. We got our Thanksgiving dinner rolls from here, and they were good. I'll probably continue to do so, but they aren't blow-you-away excellent. My mother's apple pie, however, had a "malfunction," and we needed another dessert FAST, so we tried one of the cakes they had around (white cake with white buttercream icing all decorated for Fall) and it was excellent. While I was here, I also tried some of their macaroons. Even though they are not dipped in chocolate, they don't need to be -- they are REALLY, REALLY good. I love this place. First, its totes adorbs, because it sits in a cute shopping center that looks like an old timey building, and we just don't a lot of those in these-here-suburbia-parts, ya' know? They've made the cutest cakes for me for the past several years for birthdays, anniversaries and baptisms. Keep that thing chilled, and YUM- I can eat the whole thing myself practically! They've got always got a great stock of cupcakes made fresh on hand daily. My hubby and I celebrate our anniversary with these every year. His favorite, the lemon and mine, the chocolate fudge! These babies run two bucks a piece, but to support a local business and cupcakes, I am happy to fork out the dough....err batter! I'm not sure where the glowing reviews are coming from for this shop- I was so disappointed with this place. After reading so many positive reviews I was really excited to try this place and I stopped by one day with my kids to get some special treats. Great building, small shop with charm and the display case was impressive. Everything looked so tasty and pretty! My first impression went down a notch, though, when I was greeted by one of the 2 young men who were working there at the time. Not one smile came from him and he had no inviting behavior at all. He was sullen and seemed put out by our presence there. I asked him for recommendations as we were new customers and he spat out a few answers but not with any enthusiasm. It honestly made me feel very unwelcome and I tried to speed things up a bit. I ended up getting 6 cupcakes and a lemon bar, as I love lemon bars. Flavors of cupcakes were: vanilla with buttercream, chocolate with vanilla buttercream, red velvet, strawberry, orange and double chocolate. They all looked great and had a more homemade appearance rather than a fancy-schmancy look to them, which was fine with me. Now on to the tasting: all in all, NONE of the treats we got were that great. I was really surprised and disappointed that the only flavors that were actually noticeable were the strawberry cake and the orange buttercream but they were subtle flavors. Everything else was literally tasteless- the cream cheese frosting did not have ANY cream cheese flavor and the vanilla buttercream tasted like nothing. The chocolate didn't have a real chocolate flavor and while the cake had a good texture, it just didn't have any flavor. I had hope for the lemon bar but alas, that didn't have any flavor, either! The lemon filling wasn't even real lemon curd- it was that fake rubbery lemon stuff that stretches when you bite into it. The final test for me was the fact that my kids, who INHALE treats, didn't even finish the cupcakes I gave them and never asked me for another, even though they saw the container in the fridge for a few days. I ended up throwing the leftovers out, which is pretty much unheard of in our house. I will continue my quest to find a great cupcake place, as this bakery isn't it for me. read more

My family has been having special occasion cakes made here for years. They made my Baby Sister's Wedding Cake and now a couple of years later they made her Baby Shower Cake. The Baby Shower Cake was awesome! My Mom ordered a full sheet cake that is supposed to serve 90 but it was way too much cake; but, for 90 servings it came to about 1.00 per person which is very reasonable for how yummy and awesome the cake was - super moist cake and yummy icing. I love icing and they make some of the best I have ever had. The Baby Shower cake was white cake with white frosting with pink trim and a separate bassinet cake on top - so cute and creative! Since, I have another Sister who is due to be married in September I am sure we will be using Texas Star Bakery again soon. They also serve cookies, cupcakes and premade cakes that can be personalized last minute. If you happen to live in the area I highly recommend them. read more

I had the red velvet cupcake and am still thinking about it, weeks and weeks later. This place is located in a cute little shopping center. The store itself is small and they focus on customized baked goods but what they have behind the glass is really good. They bake the stuff fresh every day. Personally, my favorite things so far are the blueberry pie and the cupcakes. I'm giving it 4 stars because when you walk in the person behind the counter stares at you until you're ready to order, which makes me nervous. I've enjoyed Texas Star cakes and treats at several events over the past few years. Each and every time the host claimed "they're the best!" I finally ordered from TX Star myself after being tired of hearing "we need 4 weeks notice" by another local shop I order from. (For a traditional half sheet cake with buttercream) I ordered a half sheet white cake and my 6 year old LOVED the Lego design. Three days later it is still incredibly moist! You wouldn't think it but going in they have a wide selection and when you get it home it doesn't just look good, it taste good. I highly recommend trying their pies, cookies and cupcakes. 5/7/16 My wife and I went there on 5/6 to order a cake to be made for our housewarming. We pick up the cake on 5/14. They require a weeks notice. It will be 1/4 sheet cake with designs to our specifications (house, flowers, message, etc) and the "premium" Italian cream that was extra. It cost us about $47 as designed. When you go in and on the right is their case with all of the pre-made items, including cupcakes, that they make. The cupcakes are $2.50 each. They looked so good, I just couldn't walk away. We got a lemon bar. In addition, we got 4 cupcakes, banana pudding, strawberry, chocolate and almond---something. In short, they were amazing. (If you are diabetic or trying to loose weight, this place is to be avoided at all hazards.) The cupcakes and lemon bar, alas, did not survive the day. Two survived until nightfall. They were amazing. If they are any indicator, I shudder to think how good the cake will be. UPDATE: 7/17/16 I went the following Saturday morning to pickup the cake for the housewarming. I show up with my receipt, etc and asked for my cake. At the time, I was the only one in the store. While I was waiting, several more customers show up for cakes. He kept looking and looking and looking. I started to get worried. Until I started looking around and paying attention (finally). There were cakes in boxes everywhere. It took the poor guy some time to find it in the mountains of cakes. When he found he brought it to me opened it and verified with me that it was the right cake. When we ordered the cake we gave them general outlines of what we wanted, house, grass, trees, flowers, and "God bless our home". What we got was another story. It was perfect. So much better than we expected. The taste of the cake was magnificent. In my mind, a steal at $47. You may consider $47 pricey for a 1/4 sheet. The quality of the cake and frosting leaves anything you get at a grocery/department store bakery light years behind. I could be wrong but I think you will be hard pressed to find a better bakery in this price range. I'll try to post a picture of the cake as well. Doubt me? Go get a cupcake. It was pretty BUT they misspelled the college name - for $130 I definitely expected it to be correct!!!! I had a gender reveal cake made in March 2019 that was perfect, gorgeous and delicious. Unfortunately I paid $240 for a two tier baby shower cake in June ...and they wouldn't show me the entire cake ( they did on the gender reveal cake) and claimed that I could just peek at it through a corner of the see through paper...claiming the lighting might discolor the cake. I thought it looked crooked at that time but I was hoping it was my imagination and refrigerated it per instructions ...when it was time to serve I had a crooked and fallen cake. I had no choice but to serve it because I had 40 guests ready to eat. I called the bakery on Monday, two days after the shower ...sent pictures ...told them what happened ...two days later I get a phone call indicating the owner was going to refund me the ENTIRE cost, which I was grateful for because when you spend that kind of money on a cake ...I expect perfection. Two weeks later I'm reviewing my bank account and only $75 had been credited. I called the bakery today to let them know and I was informed that there was never going to be a full credit even after explaining that's what I was told. Moral of the story here is ...they do make beautiful cakes but they won't take responsibility when they make a mistake. The cake was crooked before I purchased it and they tried to place blame on me and say that I didn't refrigerate it. I will never use this bakery again mostly because I feel they were deceptive and they did not want me to notice the cake ...which is why they gave me the fake story that it should remain covered. Also I was told I would be given a full refund and they changed their mind so I don't care to do business with people like this. I'm a firm believer in giving the business a chance to correct something before I go to social media ...I gave them every opportunity to fix it ...they said they would and they didn't, so I'm perfectly comfortable with this information on social media. If you do decide to use this bakery make sure you insist that they open the entire box and show you the cake. If they would've showed me the cake that day and I would have seen that it was crooked... My wedding was for the end of May andthen Covid-19 happened and I had to reschedule it. Everything place of business that I had used for my wedding called to let me know they were closed, except this place. This pandemic has had me stressed since it happened so I thought Texas Star Bakery was closed to. I got a call the day my wedding was suppose to be from them saying my cake was ready to be picked up. I told them I thought they were closed and that I never received a phone call saying they were open. The owner told me that they were open the entire time I then wanted to know why I wasn't called, the owner beat around the bush pretty much and said that he could remake the cake but would have to charge me again full price. I love this place. They made my daughters baby shower cake. It was beautiful and delicious. Since then every time she goes to the near by cleaners they have to stop in. My 8yr grandson always negotiates with the owner for either a discount or a 2 for 1 deal. (His pawpaw has taught him always ask if that's your best deal). I hate to give a place just one star when I haven't even eaten any of their baked goods, however the one star is for customer service - or lack thereof. I had lunch nearby the other day and decided to stop into Texas Star Bakery and see what sort of baked goods this place specialized in. I agree with another reviewer that it should be named 'Texas Star Cakes' since specialty cakes seem to be their thing, as well as cupcakes. The cupcakes looked great; there were at least a dozen flavors in the case to choose from. There were also cookies, some quick breads (like banana, I think), and a lemon pound cake I had my eye on (in addition to several cupcakes I was going to take home to sample). Anyway, I walked in and saw two employees assisting two customers with custom cake orders. There was also another customer ahead of me waiting. No one said 'hello' or acknowledged that I had walked in. So I perused the baked goods case for about 5 minutes deciding what I wanted and killing some time. One of the customers finished her cake order and left and the employee began to assist the new customer ahead of me. And guess what? She also wanted to order a custom cake. Geez! How long is this going to take? I figured it would at least be 10 minutes to decide on the shape, size, flavor, decoration, etc., etc. Still, no one has said squat to me. I thought about saying that I just wanted to buy something really quick out of the case, but then I thought let's see what happens here. The problem is nothing happened, at least not for me. After I'd been there about 8 minutes, I left. I got in my car and sat there thinking 'but I want a cupcake'. And then I remembered - there's another bakery just down the road. And that's where I went. I'm sure Texas Star Bakery makes delicious cakes and cupcakes based on the other reviews here. But if the owner/manager reads these reviews, may I offer some free advice (well, maybe not so free since I spent my $$ elsewhere)? Train your staff in customer service, especially when there are so many businesses competing for customers. A little service goes a long way. Really. I'm willing to wait my turn, but you shouldn't lose business because your staff ignores your customers. read more

I had a brain fart this year and forgot to order my son's birthday cake this year so last minute we ran to Texas Star to see how fast they could do a red velvet cake. Surprisingly, they bake the red velvet cakes daily - had made one that morning and was in the case ready to be purchased! They piped on Happy Birthday Llandon and I was off the hook! Whew! We had it after dinner many hours later and the cake was super fresh and MOIST. This was not a fancy pants cake in fondant, etc....a regular classic baked cake made from scratch with quality ingredients, that's all I need. Taste is what matters in the end. read more
