Briana was totally sweet with 6 starving people in town for my granddaughter's graduation from UW Eau Claire. Outstanding food, each plate with two sides. Started with blooming onion and hot out of the oven rolls. Filling up fast, add a Caesar salad or House salad and hardly room for Chicken, Filet Mignon, Grilled Shrimp on seasoned rice, loaded baked potatoes. . didn't make it to the bottom of my plate. Lots of fun partying happening in this very busy spot!

In short, I ordered a Porterhouse, my wife the Strip. I asked for Medium, but recieved rare. My Steak was cut into 4 pieces, searching for done spots. I told the server, and she said "oh yeah, that's definitely rare". I can ask the manager but I don't think they'll do anything for you if you don't want this thrown back on. My wife was 3/4 done eating. So to have my wife just sit there and watch me eat, seems confusing. The manager came out and gave me two options. Split my steak bill in half, which I unfortunately agreed to, or put my steak back on. I'm assuming you don't cook customers steaks that have already been dived into, back onto the grill as that would likely be a health code violation. So, I'm assuming a microwave would have been involved. You still wanted me to pay for half a steak that was microwaved or raw. This is a steakhouse, I'm so shocked by the lack of customer service, and the rip off cash grab. I was to pay full price if I had it microwaved! So I pay for half a steak that was raw! Disappointed.

The hostess Brooke acted like we were bothering her. No smile and she got attitude with a fellow server.

They have three round barrel high top tables (5 people?), one long table for 8-10 people, and a few swivel stools along the wall for seating. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the employees and they were very helpful in answering our questions when we had a tough time deciding what to order. Platters come with two sides, pickles, onions are an option too, but I'm not a fan, and a piece of cornbread. I initially planned on one type of meat and some sides, but after watching those ahead of me in our group get their food I couldn't decide. Opted for a three meat platter and was very glad I did. Three meats I chose included pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. The ribs were falling off the bone, full of flavor and a great option. Brisket, which I don't usually choose because I don't enjoy the fatty pieces, was phenomenal. Pulled pork came in bigger chunks and was fine, but the brisket and ribs were the star of the show. Each piece of meat was pulled from the oven and sliced for us right at the counter. My sides were mac & cheese and the cucumber salad. The mac was nice and creamy with the right balance of cheesy goodness and salt, making sure it's not just a blah noodle. The cuke salad was also a delightful surprise. I was expecting more of a vinegar base since it is listed as fresh cucumber salad, but it came out as a creamy salad with dill. The tomatoes mixed into the salad are marinated, giving it another burst of flavor with each bite. The cornbread was a little dense, but it was sweet, and served with a hefty amount of butter. Overall, this southerner would rate this as the best BBQ I've found so far in Wisconsin. My father-in-law, who is hard to please when it comes to food, was also with us and I overheard him telling someone on the phone that "it was the best BBQ he's ever had." My husband was hoping to try the burnt ends, but they weren't quite ready for serving while we were there. During our visit, a team of employees was also preparing for a catering event. They all sat down at a barrel top table and discussed the upcoming event and the plan for the evening. Everyone seemed fully informed on what their job was and the upcoming menu and when it was to be served. I would have confidence in this group if I had an event they were catering based on the taste and their thoroughness in planning.

However, the turkey was so very dry it literally flaked and turkey is my favorite, but not this turkey. Sorry Karl, not sure if I'd order again. :(

TLDR: creative cocktail and good menu with a Wisconsin twist…read more I brought my group of 8 family and friends here and everyone loved what they ordered! The menu features a lot of local Wisconsin produce and Wisconsin favorites with a twist, like Baked Cheese Curds (the tomato jam is SO GOOD) and Portobello Poppers with a wild rice and cheddar filling (it was so tasty I couldn't believe it was vegetarian!). Everyone really liked the Chicken Fried Rabbit (obviously, not our veg friend lol). The buttermilk-brined rabbit leg was so juicy and tender. The red cabbage slaw on the side was a perfect pairing. The Candied Pork Belly just melted in my mouth, no joke! And I love that it was seasoned with hoisin sauce and came with some baba ghanoush, which you'd think wouldn't go together--but it so does. For my main, I had the Grilled Ribeye and my bf had the Roasted Lamb. Both were cooked to perfection (medium rare) and both were phenomenal! The chimichurri on the side had some sweet kick to it but the steak didn't even need it bc it was plenty flavorful and tasty. The lamb was so tender and the mint gelee was *chef's kiss*. The Great Lakes Walleye was served on a nice tomato confit brodo and my bf's parents absolutely loved how imaginative it was. We all thought it'd just come out with a side of potatoes or something but the presentation blew us away AND they said it was very lovely. The kids loved their How 'Bout Them Apples pizza, which wouldn't have been my first choice (apples on pizza?!) but it did look tasty! For drinks, I ordered the Seamus (which is basically an old fashioned with Irish whiskey) and my partner ordered the Watermelon Mojito. I couldn't believe he liked the Seamus bc he usually hates old fashioneds but tbf it was a very well balanced cocktail! His Watermelon Mojito was refreshing and yummy (but a little too sweet for me). My bf and our friend both loved it tho! We'll definitely be back again the next time we pass thru Eau Claire!!

I think we had approximately 20 people and a couple joined last minute. I know this is not ideal for servers, but it worked out well and again, we so appreciate it! The Informalist was super convenient since many of us were staying at the Lismore Hotel. Since this restaurant is located in the lobby, it was just super easy and the menu has something for everyone. We ordered from both the pizza and regular dinner menu and many of us shared a bit of everything! The truffle fries may have been the biggest hit of all, so don't miss out on those! Pizza is fabulous too. We saw elote fries, a burger, caesar salad, steak and so many other things at our table. My favorite pizza was the Yellow Jacket, which includes red sauce, mozzarella, cheddar cheese, pepperoni, and spicy honey. My least favorite item was the salmon crudo, but the salmon entree was not bad. Ambiance is hip and trendy and feels a bit fancy, but we were all dressed casually. Interesting due to the name of the restaurant, but it works! If back in the area, I'd absolutely return. Enjoy!
