    Some pies
    Robert Z.

One of the few small businesses in the Kyle downtown area and they definitely have good staying power. We came towards closing and the staff were still super welcoming and friendly (not pushy about closing or rushing us out). They have a lot of classic pie options from cherry, apple, pecan, and various mixes of fruits or some cream pies. Its not a spot for any like "modern" or avant garde flavor combos but sometimes you just want a classic pie. I like that they have individual sized pies so we were able to try multiple. My favorite was the pecan (in general my favorite pie so take that info together), I thought it was a very great classic pecan pie with a touch of cinnamon? which worked very well. The other pies we tried were ok, the fillings all tasted good but felt a bit on the dry side (strawberry rhubarb, peach, and cherry). I'm not sure if its cause the individual sizes make the crust/crumble to filling ratio a bit off? Regardless, I still think they're good just nothing amazing. The service and staff really won me over though! They even gave us a free chicken pot pie as a welcome and to let us know they have chicken pot pies on Saturdays. The chicken pot pie was fantastic and I would definitely recommend that for anyone who happens to be in town on Saturdays (then stay for dino ribs next door on Sunday!)

We stopped by and enjoyed some amazing pies here! My favorites were the lemon & almond joy pies. Hubs loved the Dutch apple pie. Bro in law enjoyed the chocolate silk. The staff was pleasant and patient! There are so many choices it's hard to decide which ones to try.

I really enjoyed my strawberry rhubarb pie! It's was good and I like the crust. My boyfriend liked the pumpkin but he said he would try something else if he went again because it wasn't the best he has ever had.

We visited on Saturday for their daily special, which was chicken pot pie with a salad, dinner roll and tea. I loved it so much I even bought a pot pie to go. We also got a peach crumble pie and the almond joy pie (chocolate and coconut). Wow is all I can say. I will be back. The employee at the counter was also very nice and had good recommendations.

Very friendly when I walked in. Nice selection of all the pies . I did not know that this place did more than just pies . So we will save the food for another visit. I am a pecan pie lover , so after looking I decided on chocolate fudge pecan pie the large size ..and man it's so good almost reminds me of mixing a brownie w a pecan pie .. so far half the pie is gone and I just got it. Will be back for more pie.

We drove out here because it is one of the very, very few places that offer Strawberry Rhubarb pie. They seem to offer a lot of options which is nice. The woman working the counter when we went was about as warm and friendly as a wet blanket. Not a great first impression. The strawberry rhubarb pie was okay but definitely not my favorite. I feel like it might be better without the top which was undercooked and gooey. I personally like when a strawberry rhubarb pie has a mild tartness and is just sweet enough to take off the edge. This pie was VERY sweet. It was still worth a shot to come out. We enjoyed walking around the block and checking out the super cutely decorated park across the street when we were done.

    Peach pie

Our family has enjoyed having lunch and desert here on numerous trips between Lockhart & Wimberley. Yesterday we stopped again for some pies to take to our family renuion. We were very disappointed as the pies one apple and one peach had one layer of fruit and then a gelatinous mixture for two thirds of the filling. At $30.00 a pie, you rae better off purchasing a Mrs. Smiths and baking it yourself. Please see attached photos. To add an insult they added a 4% service charge to a card purchase. Not sure what happened to the tasy pies always mentioned in the posted reviews. I sincerely hope this respected company will go back to its roots.

Came here as a result of seeing it on an episode of "The Day Tripper". Can only speak for the (to go) small pies since I didn't eat there. So far the strawberry rhubarb and Dutch apple were fantastic... heated at 350 degrees for 20+ minutes. Looking forward to trying the peach and cherry. UPDATE: The peach and cherry were excellent. I think my order of enjoyment was: strawberry rhubarb, cherry, apple, peach. Reasonable prices. Liked the ability to buy multiple small pies at $6 a piece instead of one big pie at $26. UPDATE: Upon arriving back to Dallas, I tried the strawberry rhubarb pie from USA TODAY's #5 Pie Shop in America (Grapevine, Texas). Texas Pie Company's crust is better but the #5's strawberry rhubarb filling was slightly better with slightly more sweet / tangy taste. If prices were similar, #5 spot would have just squeaked over as "the best" of the two but since their small pies are $17 and regular pies $45, Texas Pie Company has the edge. If only they were closer! The service was just "eh", probably judged a bit more harshly after seeing the engaging owner (Julie) on Daytripper who was no where to be found on my visit. Just folks (efficiently) going thru the motions. Nothing special. Great facade on the building exterior. Good addition to the city of Kyle.

Best coconut cream pie I ever had! Got a few other flavors to try, but if they are half as good as the coconut cream - it will be amazing!

Luckily for us, his recommendation was spot on as La Ola is a great little ice cream shop with a large variety of different cures to whatever your sweet tooth desires. Parking is pretty accessible as it's in a small strip of stores and restaurants and there's ample outdoor seating as well to take in a nice summer night. The interior of the store is also nice and clean, making you feel like you're in a well run place from the moment you step in. We ordered a banana pudding scoop in a cone and a scoop of the Cookie Monster in a cup. The line here moves pretty quickly which is good so we didn't have to wait long from the moment we entered to the moment we began eating outside. The ice cream was delicious. The banana pudding tastes just as advertised with chunks of Nilla wafer throughout the bites, incredibly spot on. The Cookie Monster also tasted great, essentially a cookies and cream scoop dyed blue, but why not have a bit of fun with it? The whole experience was great and if ice cream isn't your thing they have numerous other options like shakes and ice pops to get you by. The only ding we can think of is that the trash outside was overrunning and looked like it hadn't been changed in hours. Nevertheless, we're very glad we stopped by here to get a sweet treat and would highly recommend it to anyone in the far South Austin/Kyle area looking to cool off on a summer night.

Who says rich people get to have all the fun restaurants?…read more * * * Crazy Fruits in Kyle is a restaurant that caters to a working class Mexican population. It is on the poor side of Kyle - which means east of I-35. Some of the nearby apartment complexes are pretty nice. There is a nearby trailer park that is not so nice. * * * That said, Crazy Fruits is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. If I lived anywhere between South Austin and San Marcos, I would go out of my way to go to this place. It is a Crazy Michelada - Plain Mexican Lunch - Crazy Mexican Dessert and Crazy Mexican Snack place. Three out of four Crazies means pretty damm crazy. If you are boring or conservative in your food tastes or don't like to take chances, They will make you a plain burrito or a plain taco or a plain hamburger. You look at this mountain of insanity in front of you. It is going to take a long time to eat or drink your way through all that insanity. Get started! * * * Here is what I had on my visit to Crazy Fruits in Kyle. What I ordered was middle of the road for what they've got. My beverage was a Michelada. It was served in kind of a standard way with the Michelada mix in the glass, 8 oz of Corona with the mix and 16 oz in the can to keep the Michelada alive. There was the customary tray where some Mexican restaurants put shrimp on top. Instead of shrimp, this Michelada had carne seca, hot and spicy Cheetos, Japanese peanuts, home made potato chips, Takis and Conchitos. Actually that is not quite accurate. This Michelada had a LOT of carne seca, a LOT of hot and spicy Cheetos and a LOT of etc etc etc etc making for an impressive tower on top of my glass. There was a straw and a hole in the tray so I could get to the Michelada and I could add beer as required. That one is called La Botanera if you want to try one yourself. I probably could have made a meal of my Botanera. But silly me, I actually ordered a regular meal. Okay - there was nothing even remotely regular about this meal. I had a platter of their Dorilokos. If you think about your Spanish, You will realize this is a platter of Doritos with stuff on top that is totally loco. In this case, the topping was pork rinds pickled in vinegar and jalapeno, cole slaw made with Mexican crema and cilantro, Parmesan cheese in copious quantity, Niblets out of the can, regular peanuts, pico de gallo and fresh avocado. HOLY PETUNIAS. I went nuts over every single molecule on that platter ... And there are a lot of molecules in a platter that you could have served to a table of four friends. * * * The menu is absolutely huge here. So as fantabulous as my Doritos and my Michelada were, I would be totally curious to order one of the many many many other insane items that they are willing to serve you. Life is too short not to go crazy.

Most places were closed except for a few chain drive-thrus, but this spot was still open and we'd been wanting to try it ever since they opened. The kitchen closes at 1:30am. Perfect timing! We ordered the chicharrones with guacamole, the Boring Burger, and the Piiggy burger with sweet potato fries. Let me start by saying: you HAVE to order the chicharrones. My husband usually doesn't even like chicharrones, but he absolutely loved these. They were freshly fried, not oily at all, super light and airy and gone in about two minutes flat. The burgers might look like typical bar burgers, but don't be fooled. They were surprisingly not greasy at all, made with fresh (not frozen) beef patties. The buns were soft yet sturdy and didn't fall apart while eating. This is what I'd call elevated bar food with great flavor and noticeable freshness. I'm not usually a burger person, but I genuinely loved these because they were fresh and not heavy or greasy. The sweet potato fries were also a win. Again, not greasy at all. Honestly, they tasted like they came out of an air fryer, which made them feel lighter and healthier. The space is great too: indoor and outdoor seating, plus a kids' play area just outside the patio, which is a huge bonus for families. Service was excellent--friendly, fast, and attentive. If you live anywhere near Kyle, you should absolutely check this place out. We'll definitely be back!
