A friend asked me was I interested in listening tosome live music tonight. Absolutely! First stop…read morethe Continental Club on S. Congress. This place is an Austin institution and one of the best places in the city to experience live music. This historic venue has been a local hangout for great music since the 1950s. The club was dimly lit with lots of stickers, graffiti, neon signage, paintings and interesting artifacts. While it has been a long time since I have been to the Continental club, it still felt truly Austin and very unpretentious. In the Continental Club you are literally I feet away from the live music. A dog was sleeping on stage, which made the place feel homey. The club is small and intimate, exuding a super personal persona. In addition, the sound quality is excellent for such a small venue. Tonight we listened to Hot Club Cowtown...they sounded folksy and a bit country western yet enjoyable to listen to. Folks were boot scooting, so maybe more country western. Mike the doorman was super personable and helpful. He happily provided the WIFI password and was super engaging. In addition, it is important to note the cover was free until 9 pm. The crowd was a mix bag...locals, tourists, and musicians who love live music. Austin is affectionately known as the "Live Music Capitol of the World". Great music...great time!

Other things will be a longer walk away. Service here is fine. Expect drink prices to match the area. This is more of a bar with a stage than a club. Good to see some rock and metal in the area.

Def a great little spot for outdoor concerts…read more Not sure why more acts don't come thru here - it's smaller and more manageable than Stubbs and it has very nice bathrooms. We've seen the Strumbellas here twice and truly don't know why more indie acts don't choose this spot over Stubbs. The stage itself is small but the sound system is great and while I don't LIKE it, I definitely understand why they charge for their elevated back bar area (deemed premium seating, at $40 a seat, you get a reserved spot to park it for your event and a great view of the stage). On site there's a hot dog stand and for sure this guy has his supply and demand system down. He smartly uses a fan to waft the mouth-watering aroma of grilled dogs all throughout the venue. Vegetarians need not respond but I would love to find any meat loving person who can go an entire concert here without buying a dog...I'm waiting lol Seriously though, for $10 the dogs are juicy, smothered in good stuff and they absolutely SLAP. Parking sucks but that's anywhere downtown. Street parking if you're lucky, otherwise, they do have an event parking deal with a fairly close parking garage.

We quickly went through security and got our tickets scanned. You can see from pretty much everywhere and the sound was good! We got there right before she started so we just found our spot in the crowd and stayed there the whole time. I will go back! It smelled like popcorn the whole time so I assume they have concessions.

I met friends here for ladies night...first time this year. What happened? Arrived at Sahara lounge that was in a residential neighborhood...wait...what?! Live DJ spinning tunes from Prince and Michael Jackson to Abba and the Bee Gees and everything in between Low ceilings...looks like this place was a house converted to a lounge. Outside seating for resting between dances or simply chilling or frequenting outside bar Food truck alert...yes on the patio Massive number of regulars that extoll the joys of attending ladies night. Dancing in two locations - on the dance floor and small stage with DJ. Folks jumping up and down and dancing their hearts out. Dancing on the top of a large speaker...how cool was that? It's not aesthetically beautiful, but hugely popular. Dancing with strangers...meeting new people...admiring the dance. Dancing carefree...no judgements Sahara Lounge is a whole vibe!

In 2018, I came to TX for my daughter's wedding in SATX, which coincided with my birthday. I decided the easiest way to see my friends was to have them come to the Sahara Lounge. My 50th birthday will always be one of my favorite birthday memories! Friends, great music, and a good atmosphere - it couldn't have been better. So, when I needed to make it back to ATX to pick up some family mementos from my aunt, I thought, "where better than the Sahara to see friends and hear some great music?" SL did not disappoint. Africa Night is the best! The music was hopping and I was able to catch up with friends outside where it's easier to talk. My travelling companion needed to leave a little earlier than I probably would have, but I did get some dancing in before the night ended. I'm not waiting 8 years to return to ATX & when I return, SL will be on my list of places to go! Some places typify the best in Austin and SL is one of those places. Thanks, Eileen!!
