The online course content itself is .... fine...I guess.... but the video player technology is old-fashioned and leaves out several features that would really make this course more usable. For example, the video player: - lacks a full-screen mode - lacks subtitles - can't be rewinded if you miss something - doesn't tell you how much time is remaining I understand they don't want folks fast-forwarding all the way thru, but several times I wanted to go back just a few seconds to re-read some on-screen text (remember, the video is teeny tiny especially for those of us with weaker eyes) or repeat what they just said so I could take notes, and my only option was to refresh the entire page and start the video all over again. On a 2 or 3min video clip this wasn't a big deal, but some clips are 20+ mins long and having to start all over was especially frustrating. With the video player coming up the size of a postage stamp, a full-screen button and/or a subtitle option would really make it easier on students! The text-based content has a few minor spelling/grammar mistakes or missing words. The screen also doesn't tell you how many pages are left in a chapter. Again, this makes it difficult for the student to pace themselves or plan ahead (i.e. "I can finish this chapter on my lunch break"). As for the contents of the videos, again they are really old-fashioned. One video has a copyright from 1994. The videos don't acknowledge any modern vehicle safety systems (such as blind-spot detection, automatic braking, automatic headlights, or any kind of driver-assistance system that has been on vehicles for the past 10+ years now). The course works, I guess, but it is very old. All the videos are 20-30 years old. The video player has no abilities to rewind with no subtitle availability. Also there is constant background music that plays at the same volume as videos that you can't mute. Questions are asked after every video but there are no cues during the videos that indicate you need to memorize this number, and if you get the questuon wrong you need to rewarch the entire video. They do give a review at every chapter for the tests but the reviews aren't always right/don't match to answers on tests. The videos attires give out completely wrong information, example saying that airbags do NOT deploy during side collisions. We all know side airbags exist now, but the video was from 80s or 90s, before side airbags, so they give incorrect info. Finally, if you finish the course as fast as you can, they still won't let you finish the course until a certain amount of time expires (I think it's 6 hours but don't remember). read more

I received a ticket stemming from a vehicle accident I had. Was trying to find a good online defensive driving school that had videos instead of reading boring text. Classroom sessions were not an option, as I did not have a vehicle. I happened to stumble across Texas DDS and decided to give them a try. Proceeded to sign up for the course. Sign up was straight forward. The course itself is all video based. The information was presented in a professional and fun manner, which took the sting out of taking 6 hours of defensive driving. After the course was completed Saturday morning, the certificate was mailed out the same day and arrived today. Tech support was top notch as well and are handled by the owners of Texas DDS. I had a slight technical issue and gave them a call. Issue was resolved not long after. I really enjoyed the course and would highly recommend this school to anyone who has to take defensive driving. read more

No one is a fan of spending 6 hours taking an online course after getting a ticket. But I have to say I enjoyed this one. Randy and Gary who present the material did a great job. They prepared nice personalized video segments that gave a nice break between the typical AAA safety videos you see in all online DDS courses. I had one small glitch in a chapter not being saved. Called the support and Randy picked up. Couldn't believe I had an owner on the phone helping me with tech support. He had it fixed in a flash and was right back to it. At the end of the course I received my documents regular mail in 2 days with a nice note from Gary thanking me for attending the class. Nice touch guys. Overall it was a first rate experience. After 6 hours of seeing the 2 brothers joke around with each I felt like I was part of the family. Thank you guys! Keep up the great work. read more

Not that I am a habitual speeder, but at 57 years old I have taken my share of Defensive Driving courses, both in person and via the Web. Well this time I was lucky enough to choose Texas Defensive Driving School from the list on the TEA website. The course is well paced, informative, funny without the groan factor and flows so well that the 6 hours actually went fast. They have a review section after each chapter that helps with the subsequent test module. Easy to take breaks...the content picks back up without a hiccup. Gary (one of the "stars") was even good enough to follow up with an email to make sure my info was correct before he sent out my certificate. Great job TDDS!!!! read more

Good course info and video presentation. Make sure to read end of chapter review info before answering the 4 questions at the end of each chapter. Poor design on getting disconnected for not logging out or leaving it on for a long period of time. Needs to make this technical issue better. For example, a new ("video") window is open when you click "Launch" button after signing into the site. If you get disconnected or never log out after a period of time, an Error message pop up is under the video window. You never see the error message. If you continue with the course, all the time is wasted. Once you realized this and log back in, the stopping point is way back when it got the error message pop up (hopefully not too far back when you realized it). Of the two windows, "My course" and/or "video" window, one of these window should be closed or automatically log you out and not permit you to continue. The "video" window should not be playing when the server is disconnected or time out after a long period of time unattended. read more

The course was easy to follow and very informative. The presentation is professional and when I had a technical problem Gary answered the phone quickly, was courteous and was able to fix the technical problem in a very short amount of time so I could finish the course. I had trouble with one other online ddc site and was could not stand to watch the silly animated cartoon characters on a comedy website. I really enjoyed this course. read more

I took this course online and, as far as Defensive Driving classes go, this one was pretty rockin'. I liked that it was available online, and that it was broken up into lots of short video segments; the program also remembered where I was, so I could do pieces of a chapter, instead of doing an entire hour at a time. I did not experience any technical difficulties. I would advise anyone who needs to take a Defensive Driving course to take it with Randy & Gary through the Texas Defensive Driving School online. read more

I was very skeptical about taking a Defensive Driving course (DDC) online since the people who i spoke to told me it was super boring and time consuming. I have not taken a DDC online before so i cannot compare the course i took with www.texdds.com to any other DDC course. It was the first time i was taking a Defensive Driving course and i thought it was very well presented. It is a video version so you can listen to the instructions while you are doing other stuff and there are questions asked at the end of each chapter so it makes it easy to remember the stuff you read. There is a review portion at the end of each chapter, this is very important becoz for sure the questions to follow are going to be from this review. So, i quickly made notes of important things while it is scrolling. All in all it was interesting and i liked it. I spent a few days trying not to select a course where i felt boring and i could not find any honest reviews about any of the schools, so i thought this might help someone looking to take a Defensive Driving course. My certificate was mailed to me in 3-4 days. read more
