This is a cute little dinner. Use rear entrance for better parking availability. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. I got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. It was a pretty good burger. The Fries were good diner fries and not stale at all. Some places have stale tastings fries. My wife got the turkey melt and she said it didn't have a lot of flavor. But she loved the fries. We are in the north so the yankee tea isn't ever quite right. Finding southern style sweet tea is still on the checklist. read more

This is THE Place: the Texas Cafe in Hornell, NY! Their 6-page menu has SO many delicious items that if we hadn't been hungry for a simple breakfast (at noon!), we would've had trouble deciding what to order The restaurant is full of satisfied, happy locals who seem to be there often; seemed to be a lot of meet, greet, and eat going on ... delightful! Our waitress AMY was experienced (!)... she put our order together quickly , and within minutes we had perfect over-easy eggs with our home fries, two different bottles of hot sauce, and even sourdough toast Great coffee too! It might be called "Texas Cafe", but it's more like a super diner -- Specials are posted on the wall behind a lengthy counter and cooking area. All very clean and within view. There are seats at the counter, as well as at tables and in booths...all on one floor ... easy access for wheelchairs/walkers from both the front and rear door-- behind which is generous, free parking. AMY was so pleasant -- we almost stayed for the another meal She knew the town so well and told us where we could go to find what we were looking for... we could walk there from the restaurant. Service was great, but the food was not the best. We had a mushroom Swiss burger and a buffalo chicken wrap: the burger had no lettuce Tomato onion r mayo. We were never asked if we wanted any extras. And for the wrap it was the same thing all o had was chicken celery and a small amount of blue cheese! I would say this is a 3 out of 10! read more

The food arrives quickly and tastes the same each time. The service is quick and the wait staff are all pleasant. I don't care about the ambiance as much when the food is good. It could use a little updating but I like a booth and there are plenty of them. I will order out or dine in. I enjoy their French dip sandwiches and their Texas hots are always great. read more

This is one of my fav restaurants!!! They're always friendly, super quick and their food is always great!!! It hasn't changed since I was little, and it's awesome to be able to take my kids there like my mom and dad used to with me! It brings back so many good memories every time I go in there. Despite the name, you aren't magically transported to Texas. Won't fall for that again. However you will have a decent time eating edible substances and twiddling your thumbs. Unless you actually go with someone, then you have someone to talk to. read more

Oh man! The old Texas Cafe. If you are in town and want to see a show / eat some shabby food at 2am on a Saturday night, this is the place. Picture this... Small country town. Nothing else open. Bars are closing. Lots of drunk rednecks. Grilled cheese and coffee. Open all night. Awesome and Awful all rolled into one. It's a serious treat if you are looking through the correct lens. If you are a drunk red neck, you'll have fun too but not the way I am thinking. This place is a trip. Also, as far as I am told, the Texas Hot (hot dog with chili) is pretty bad ass. Touring on the road, this cafe is one the inspired songs written by the country artist I was touring with. This was the second time we happened to be in the area and she had to stop in to eat. Course one of the servers recognized her from her last visit. This place isn't anything special but a mom and pops diner. A place you can see has been around for years and nothing has changed. Same people who probably come every day to get their coffee or a bite to eat regardless how bad the weather was. They have a huge parking lot in the back, and funny that even our tour bus barely made it in but we made a spot near by. It was quiet and a couple of people in there. Our server was a young lady who helped us. Just like any diner, you can get the typical burger, sandwich, pastrami, soup, salad or grilled cheese. American made foods, if you want something cheap and simple and a quiet place to hang, this is the place. Nothing fancy but willing to chat you up and make new friends. read more

This is a classic down-home cafe. If you want good diner food, look no further. Prices are good. Food is delicious. Highly recommended!

Wednesday's chicken lemon soup is the best! Wait staff are sweet. Would choose the Texas over Schu's any day.

Honestly, I have never had a Texas Hot Dog any better than at this place. Why oh why they changed their hours and are no longer open past 9pm EVEN ON A FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT....the best time to go, I have no idea. Was just in Hornell Saturday night, June 1st and was planning on grabbing a late night hot dog and french fries with gravy after a show at the high school...and probably take four or five home to Rochester....and THEY WERE CLOSED. This is almost insane. The VERY BEST business this place did was late night weekends. What a shame. read more

Texas Cafe is a good place to go for quick service, great food, and friendly service. Every time I have gone there, the waitresses are very kind and the food never disappoints. Even though the food is prepared in a timely manner, it is also a great place to sit and relax for a bit. Maybe it is not for everyone, but I certainly love it. read more

With a bottomless cup of joe, who can complain?!? Service is fast and great if you're in a pinch for time. Seems efficient.
