The original station dates back to 1848. That structure was replaced by a new building in 1875, which burned down in 1928. Two years later the current station opened. Parking at the station lot or garage has always been available, only once did we have to use a different garage across the street. Overall, we find it easier, more flexible and a much better value to use the Metro-North out of New Haven Union Station than the Amtrak out of Providence.

There is an interesting underground path that takes you to the main station. It is a very small station compared to others in New York City or Philly. There was a small gift shop and a Dunkin Donuts which had a large line. Outside there was a crowd of people waiting for an Uber or the local bus to downtown. It cost about $20 each way from the city. It was only my first time in New Haven so I didn't know what to compare it to. It was a cloudy rainy day so everyone seemed miserable. I would have to come back here on a sunny day to see if there is a difference.

This pretty much means that it anytime you can shop here and there could be a Ford 150 parked and the electric vehicle charging lot because there's no green marking or anything on the ground indicating that it's an electric vehicle charger and of course that would need to be obvious for the residence of Darien! There's food shopping and other things available within walking distance so in that regard it's actually a really good charging station especially since it's a DC fast charger. Oh did I mention you could easily be in the parking lot and watch wild turkeys go by two so there's some nice wildlife as well.

The combination of natural wood, stone, dramatic architectural details, and artwork is stunning. One of the most impressive pieces is the enormous hand-blown glass sculpture in the Casino of the Sky -- pictures honestly don't do it justice! There is also SO much to do without ever having to leave the property. There are tons of restaurants, stores for shopping, entertainment, and plenty of places to grab late-night snacks. Our room was extremely clean, comfortable, and relaxing. The entire hotel and casino were spotless and very well maintained, especially considering how large the property is. One of the highlights of our stay was dinner at Michael Jordan's Steak House. The steak was probably one of the BEST I've ever had -- absolutely incredible! And you MUST order the garlic bread. Trust me, you will not regret it! Between the gorgeous décor, amazing food, shopping, entertainment, cleanliness, and comfortable rooms, Mohegan Sun has officially become one of my favorite hotels. I'll try to provide a balanced view, because some aspects of the property are worth a lot more than the three stars I gave it. I'll start with the pluses. The staff is uniformly helpful and gracious. "Good mornings" were freely offered and every server at the various restaurants ( we were there four days) was professional and welcoming. Big props to whoever is managing personnel. This is NOT a small achievement for such a large establishment. I also want to give high marks for cleanliness. There were always workers picking up papers etc who were paying a lot more attention than the average worker to anything out of place. We saw one elderly worker brushing out debris from the escalator. Again, kudos to the management for personnel. Our room was adequate and nicely appointed with a magnificent view of the property. Darkening drapes protected us from the rising sun. Parking valet system was efficient and speedy. Now for the downsides. While only two, they were considerable enough to make me rethink a return trip. They are also the reason for writing this lengthy review for fellow YELPERS. Despite the numerous restaurants, there was not one place to eat simple, healthy food for breakfast or lunch. There was only ONE place to eat breakfast and it had no healthy options (oatmeal,yogurt,fruit). On my first day (waiting for my husband for lunch) I actually had to leave the restaurant because the smell of fried food was impossible to endure. Believe it or not, it was our only choice for a table service restaurant for lunch. Dinner choices were far better but one could starve before then. For this size property, maps should have been available in rooms or, at least, on the website. When choosing a place to dine, one had to call and inquire its location. This is a meaningful flaw when, if staying there on business, time is restricted. A few interactive maps were available in common areas but navigation was impossible from the rooms. This is where most guests would likely do their planning. A simple QR code for guests would solve this problem. So, top marks for staffing but too many negatives to warrant more than three stars OR a return visit. I'd love to see John Mayer perform but not there.

I came on a Wednesday for the $17.99 lobster roll special and it was easily one of the best I've ever had. It is a quarter pound of lobster and you get actual lumps of claw and meat rather than the shredded stuff some other places serve. The butter it's sautéed in is seasoned delicately to accentuate the fresh lobster instead of covering up the taste. The portion was surprisingly large and it comes on a fresh bun that is lightly buttered and toasted. It even comes with a little cup of extra butter which I totally slathered on because I love butter! Every bite was so fresh and soft. The roll comes with fries and I did the optional $5 upcharge for the lobster bisque. That was also the best I've ever had because I've never seen bisque with such large chunks of lobster in it.
