There is an interesting underground path that takes you to the main station. It is a very small station compared to others in New York City or Philly. There was a small gift shop and a Dunkin Donuts which had a large line. Outside there was a crowd of people waiting for an Uber or the local bus to downtown. It cost about $20 each way from the city. It was only my first time in New Haven so I didn't know what to compare it to. It was a cloudy rainy day so everyone seemed miserable. I would have to come back here on a sunny day to see if there is a difference.

I initially chose the State Street…read morestation in New Haven, but soon realized Union is less than a mile from State Street and it's not only much more convenient to get off at Union, but Union is a much nicer landing place. Union also offers more options when choosing routes. It should also be noted that on some Amtrak routes, State Street is the final destination, so the train has to turn around and change direction, therefore debarking the train will take longer if you get off at State Street. State Street is a functional, clean station, but there is no inside seating, vending machines, etc. Union is much larger, with inside seating, not too crowded, lots of attendants to help out. Vending machines aren't super well stocked, but they exist. The bathrooms are pretty clean and no lines when I was there. Food is limited--a news stand, a S'barro. I didn't have any food, but stopped by for a cold Diet Coke and the staff were very nice. Escalators work, elevators work, signage is very clear and consistent, floors pretty clean. I have been spoiled by Moynihan in NYC, and the Philly lounge and the Chicago lounge. But the more I've traveled by train, the more I realize those stations are outliers. I visited Baltimore's station several days ago and it was in utter disrepair. Gave me a new appreciation for a pretty "nice" station. Union (why are they all named Union?!) is a pretty nice station.

I wasn't starving, just wanted a snack before a long few hours of furniture contemplation, so I got a kid's size of the swedish meatballs for $5. Literally crazy value. 4 meatballs, a scoop of mashed potatoes, scoop of peas, scoop of lingonberry sauce. Delicious as always, just as good as everyone says. And genuinely, I cannot recommend enough checking out the falafel meal. The falafel is thick and textured almost like a meatball itself, and completely full of delicious flavor. It's absurdly good. I usually go with meatballs because they're a classic, but after this experience, I might have to do falafel balls next time. And they were cheap as well! $5 for 8 falafels, couscous, hummus, and a lemon!! What a steal! I'll be back for more soon, probably when I finalize which dresser I intend to purchase. This pretty much means that it anytime you can shop here and there could be a Ford 150 parked and the electric vehicle charging lot because there's no green marking or anything on the ground indicating that it's an electric vehicle charger and of course that would need to be obvious for the residence of Darien! There's food shopping and other things available within walking distance so in that regard it's actually a really good charging station especially since it's a DC fast charger. Oh did I mention you could easily be in the parking lot and watch wild turkeys go by two so there's some nice wildlife as well.

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana also makes good fresh brick oven pizza that is made to order. Although the pizza used to be much better back in the day. Some of the restaurants have changed over the years, but most of the key ones have stayed the same. The hotel is also well put together and comfortable. Additionally, my relatives like what the casino has to offer here. Aside from that, they do have some great shows and concerts here. They also have a shopping area where you can spend a lot of time. Shopping-wise, The Olde General Store has some unique and quaint supplies and tools. Sometimes, this store carries handmade dolls by local Mohegan artists. It's a great personal touch since the area is part of the Mohegan Tribe's reservation. I still like visiting Mohegan Sun with family.

It isn't huge inside but they use the space so wisely. The kitchen is open to the bar so you can see and hear all the amazing things happening back there which really adds to the local neighborhood vibe. The bartenders there are very sweet and attentive, they help bring the whole experience there to 5 stars. I came on a Wednesday for the $17.99 lobster roll special and it was easily one of the best I've ever had. It is a quarter pound of lobster and you get actual lumps of claw and meat rather than the shredded stuff some other places serve. The butter it's sautéed in is seasoned delicately to accentuate the fresh lobster instead of covering up the taste. The portion was surprisingly large and it comes on a fresh bun that is lightly buttered and toasted. It even comes with a little cup of extra butter which I totally slathered on because I love butter! Every bite was so fresh and soft. The roll comes with fries and I did the optional $5 upcharge for the lobster bisque. That was also the best I've ever had because I've never seen bisque with such large chunks of lobster in it. It was just crazy good. Everything was well worth the price and I'd honestly come back even on days when it's not a special. They have something going on every night like the $9.99 burger and fries on Mondays, so that will definitely be my next reason to visit. I will be back for sure!
