'TL:DR-Highly recommend these wonderful people
Long version:
Just over a month ago (Aug 2021), we arrived in CT after travelling across the country in a new-to-us RV. We are full-timers and honestly, have had issue after issue with our RV.
We arrived in Norwich, CT and spent a day or so unwinding from the drive. We were making lunch (we were using our generator because we were boondocking) when all the sudden power went out to the entire unit. Everything shut down all at once. I assumed we blew a circuit breaker and attempted your standard reset procedures.
Nothing worked.
We called around for mobile assistance with no luck.
We got in touch with Jeff, owner at Good Times, and he took about 30 minutes trying to walk me through the issue. Unfortunately that didn't work either.
We were stuck with out slides out and no way to safely drive to a repair shop.
After about 24 hours of dealing with issue after issue trying to get someone who could come out and help us, we were finally able to get the slides in. Luckily, we could drive the rig, we just didn't have any other sort of power.
We took it to Good Times, because we had previously talked with them about doing the repair, they were closest to where we were, and they really tried their best to help us over the phone. We had a good feeling about going there. Mind you, this is on a Friday night, after business hours...
We grab a hotel for the evening because it is way to hot to stay in the rig with the pets.
The next morning we go to Westbrook. We had left the rig overnight because Jeff had made us a spot knowing we were coming in.
We get there and it's just Jeff, working the store for the day. We explain who we are (he remembered talking to me) and the situation. He offers to take a look at it, even though there's no one else there to mind the store.
He spends a few hours back and forth between helping customers in the store and trying to solve our problem. Unfortunately it's beyond the time he can invest in it that day.
However, during the course of the day we'd been talking and he offered to let us stay on the lot, providing us power (extension cord) and water, plus letting us dump (boy did we need it by then).
So with a safe place to stay with our pets we settled in hoping to get the issue resolved by the end of the coming week. There were a lot of possibilities, and worst case scenario it would take slightly over a week to locate and fix the issues, with ordering parts and all.
Monday morning, we turn over our spare keys and head to visit some folks for the day. We were hopeful that they might have an idea later that afternoon how long it would take, though we'd have been happy if they had the root cause figured out by Tuesday.
Monday afternoon I received a text stating that the rig should be ready by about 3 PM, everything fixed.
The Technician walked me through the problem, their resolution, and what to look for if it should happen again.
We had discussed, on the way back to the shop, how much we expected the bill to be and what methods we would use to pay it. With the hourly charge and estimated parts, we figured it would be in the order of $2-3K, which was a fair price considering what we had been dealing with.
The final bill was under $300, including parts and labor.
Not only did they save us thousands in repairs (I'm not a mechanic and would have paid whatever they said the charge was because I was clueless as to the issue), but we were able to stay on the lot, saving additional expenses.
Jeff says he's all about fixing the rigs, because that makes people happy, but I say Jeff is all about the people and fixing the rigs is a side job. When I buy another rig, if Good Times is still in business and Jeff is still there, I will absolutely, 100%, take my rig there for him to inspect prior to the purchase, because I feel that they are honest and ethical. Really good people
