We each ordered a few salads and a pasta, and shared vegetables for the table, and every single dish was outstanding. The highlights were easily the roasted asparagus with truffle aioli, the hot honey crispy Brussels sprouts, and the pesto pasta special. They were so good we finished every last bite. The ambiance really elevated the experience. We were seated on the patio on a beautiful Menlo Park day, which made the meal feel even more special, relaxed, vibrant, and effortlessly enjoyable. Service was equally impressive. My water glass was never empty, and the staff offered thoughtful, friendly recommendations that clearly came from knowing the menu well. The standout moment, though, was when I mentioned I had been hoping for a cookie, but they had just sold out. To my surprise, the chef made a fresh batch and brought some out for us at the end. That level of care and hospitality truly wowed me. This was one of those meals where everything just clicks, food, service, and setting. I'll absolutely be back, especially to check out their happy hour.

This was my fourth visit for lunch and all my other visits had been great. The food, service and environment were all BAD! First, the waitress got all three of our orders wrong. The server took them all back, supposedly fixed. My friend and I ordered the Mary's chicken on Ciabatta withOUT the garlic aioli and instead some mayo on the side. Both of us have medical reasons we can't eat garlic. When I looked at the sandwich I could see that there was still garlic aioli and it looked like the same piece of bread and they just tried to scrape it out. This was not acceptable at all. Rather than making a big deal, we both tried to scrape more of it out. Then, my sandwich was sitting in a pool of something wet which made the underside of the sandwich completely soggy. (I assumed chicken juice, but hopefully not something else!) The chicken breast itself was dry and tough and the flavor of the sandwich wasn't appealing. And I ordered the special waffle fries versus the potato chips and those were cold and soggy! My last visit, I ordered the exact same meal and it was so delicious! Then, not only was there a man right next to me coughing non-stop (not your fault) but there was construction going on at the lower patio that was previously a beautiful outdoor seating area. And part of the construction work, in addition to constant banging and it being a general ugly view, a worker was sawing big vertical metal beams repeatedly and during our entire lunch. We were outside on the deck so the sound was ear-shatteringly loud so we had to scream over it to hear each other. Finally, in addition to getting our orders wrong and then serving hot lunches cold, we had very little attention from our servers. Let me just say that it was NOT busy at all, so there was no excuse for this. Based on this experience, I may not ever be back. Super disappointed and feeling like what should have been a pleasant and enjoyable time, was just basically miserable. My ears are still ringing and I'm suffering the effects of the garlic. Attaching a photo of the view from our table.

This review is for the dining areas at Rosewood Sand Hill, including Madera Restaurant, Madera Bar,…read moreand Bici Coffee. The hotel is located right by SLAC, tucked into a hillside setting in Menlo Park. The property feels peaceful, elegant, and very well maintained. Madera Restaurant offers a full upscale dining menu and is a great choice for lunch, dinner, a business meal, date night, or a special occasion. Madera Bar is perfect for cocktails, wine, and light bites in a more relaxed but still refined atmosphere. Bici Coffee is a nice option for coffee, pastries, or a casual stop for bikers if you do not want a full sit-down meal. Rosewood Sand Hill is also a nice place for a tea party or an afternoon gathering with friends. One of the best parts is the view from the hill. I like how you can partially see the highway from the restaurant, but you cannot really hear it, so the setting feels very calm and secluded. Occasionally, you can see some movement in the distance, but if you were not looking in that direction, you probably would not even notice it. Because of that, the whole place feels very private and relaxing. Visiting Rosewood Sand Hill feels like you have been transported somewhere away from Silicon Valley, even though you are actually right in the middle of it, just a walking distance from SLAC, the particle accelerator, and Zoox's autonomous vehicles. That contrast makes the experience even more interesting: you are surrounded by the Silicon Valley's technology and innovation, but the atmosphere feels secluded, quiet, luxurious, and almost like a retreat.

All the deets: We started our stay with complimentary EV charging and a golf cart ride to our cottage. From the moment we arrived, the service felt effortless and welcoming. No snobby or stuffiness. The room had an epon feel with high ceilings, a large walk-in closet, a spacious bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the lawn and fountain. It was the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast and if you get lucky maybe see some of the bunnies that run around the property. Next stop: the pool. Swim, eat, repeat. The staff regularly came around with complimentary tastings from the menu, and more than once we ended up ordering the item they brought - spicy tuna tostadas at the top of the list! The saltwater pool was fantastic, although I was glad I packed goggles(your eyes may not appreciate salty water it as much as the rest of you). The pool menu is relatively small but thoughtfully curated, with every item we tried delivering on quality and flavor. In the evening, we got ready and walked over to dinner at Madera. A separate review is coming, but dining on the deck while watching the sunset was a highlight of the stay. The halibut seemed to be the popular choice around us and looked incredible. Fork ordered the ribeye steak, while Spoon went with the mushroom ragù. Both dishes were excellent and a perfect end to the day. Final verdict: Rosewood Sand Hill delivers luxury without feeling stuffy. Between the beautiful grounds, attentive service, excellent food, and relaxing atmosphere, it's an easy recommendation for a staycation or special occasion.

Every dish we had gives off a fresh vibe --- tastes good and feels good to eat…read more I love the Salmon Crudo for the appetizer. I like that they used Calamansi for the citrus component. Everything on the plate looks put together with delicate hands and intention. Each bite contains elements of a good bite, both taste and texture. I also enjoyed the banana bread with espresso butter. I forgot to take a photo, but it's giving me more chocolate forward taste than the banana, which I enjoyed. For our main food, we tried the Asparagus Risotto and the Cod. The Risotto was flavorful. The asparagus, mushroom, and toasted bread all worked together in flavor and texture. The serving size is also a good portion either for individual or sharing. The Black Cod was cooked well. The skin is charred and crispy, while the meat is so soft. The purée goes well with the fish. For dessert, we tried the Brokaw Farm Passion Fruit and I would totally recommend it. It's nice to find unique desserts at different places. The dessert has sweet, salty, crunchy, cold, bitter, and sour all together. And doesn't feel heavy. It's just light and vibrant. The cocktails were also both delicious. Overall, nothing negative to say with everything we tried. The service feels like a mellow pace which matches the vibe of the restaurant. They clean the table in between courses. It is also open kitchen so you can watch them cooking and prepping some of the dishes. The ambiance is nice for a weekend of relaxing while eating good food. There are a lot of diners, from families, to friends, to couples. There's patio dining with a nice greenery view. The price was a bit on the higher side, but compared to similar restaurant setting, and the food, it's pretty justifiable.

The location is truly stunning and the views behind the restaurant and the adjacent bar is beautiful during golden hour, since we came for dinner. The decor is very open air which fits the summer and has a grand feel in the restaurant. The adjacent bar had a sleek dark interior and a very elegant bar. The service was excellent. Our server explained everything very clearly. He checked on allergies at the beginning, explained their drinks offerings both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and shared his food recommendations. The other staff were also very good. They refilled waters regularly and the food came out without that long of a wait. Also, they refolded all the napkins if you left your table which was a very nice touch. For drinks, I had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc that really complemented my seafood dish and the appetizers we ordered. The food was very good. It started off strong with the bread and the amazing creamy butter that had just enough of saltiness without being overwhelming. The Di Stefano Buratta, which was recommended to us, was also very good especially the peaches. We also had the Buttermilk Fried Quail which was good and came with a generous amount of caviar. For those curious, it tasted like a really smooth seasoned fried chicken. For our entrees, we had several dishes, including the Half Moon Bay Halibut, Farallon Islands Black Cod, and the Prime Ribs only available on the weekend for dinner. We also ordered two sides: roasted potatoes and sauteed spinach. The Halibut and Cod were all excellent. I had the cod and it was soft and creamy and the sauce really helped balance the taste. The only minor shortfalls were the Prime Rib having too much sauce that it was soggy and the spinach somewhat overtaking the daikon taste. For dessert, we all had Brokaw Farm Passion Fruit. It is a bit sour, so this is a warning for those who only like sweet desserts. It is also fairly large and can be shared by two people. One of our party also ordered a Green Sencha tea, which they thought was a slight miss. Overall, most of the food were really good, the staff were wonderful, and the environment is very beautiful. This is a great special occasion dining destination for locals and a convenient place for guests staying at the Rosewood Hotel to dine.
