Or at least I try to be Anyway, my plan was to go here to get something subtle, but it was actually recommend to me to just get a cut, clean up the cuticles, and I guess "buff" the nails? (Not sure of the terminology) The nail techs are super nice and the work is amazing but I mostly love the vibe. The place is gorgeous and the owner is super nice So I guess I'm back on yelp - every time I try to get out, they puuull me back in hahaha In short, this place is awesome, the techs are super good and the owner is super sweet. If I could give negative stars to rate this nail salon quality and management, I would!…read more The first thing that happened after I had been going to Meew for about a year was, I went to checkout after my service one day and noticed that my total was $55 less that day. I asked the receptionist why and she looked at my service history and saw that I had been being over charged for a different service that whole time. When I reached out to the owner Anna to have her review my past services and issue me a credit towards future appointments she kept pushing me off, saying "I will look tomorrow" . As this went on for weeks. I came into the salon and saw her decorating the front door and asked if we could get this sorted and she told me she was busy decorating and would get back to me, continuing to put me off. I ended up taking matters into my own hands and requesting my history from the receptionist and added up the total and told them how much of a credit I have and had to keep a log myself until I was made whole in that situation. I had been going to this very expensive nail salon for almost 2 years. Before I took a nail break due to a fingernail infection that I suspect was caused by this salon. I had several issues with my gel polish peeling off of my nails over the last few months I was going there. Twice I had the gel polish peeling off same day/next day before even taking a shower and when I contacted the salon they were telling me that it had to be something I was doing. I had to go in twice within 72 hours to get my nails fixed. My guess is that the products they are using are no good and not sticking to the nail bed and I have several friends that experience the same thing. (My girlfriend got her nails done before heading to a wedding in Europe and had to attend with no polish on one nail because the whole thing peeled off in one piece. ) I reached out to an old nail tech I previously saw and she recommended which base and top coat to use. I then purchased those products and brought them with me the last time I was in and my polish lasted 2 weeks+ (that was the fix). But after that my nail became infected. I was diagnosed by my primary physician and was prescribed antibiotics to take for a week as well as an antibiotic ointment to use. Not using my best judgement, now that my finger is healed and I have an event coming up I tried to schedule an appointment and planned to bring my own products when I realized that I was blocked from booking. I reached out to the salon and this is what the owner responded to me. Telling me that I'm the blame, saying that I expect my nails to last a month, when my complaint was about my nails not lasting even 24 hours. She is now refusing me as a client and acting as if I have gotten aggressive with her and is threatening legal action. I have also had a friend tell me she had the same experience, they told her they would refund her. Never did, and my friend had to call her bank to get her money back. Over $200 for a manicure that did not last 48 hours. Unacceptable. I will attach screenshots of my conversation with the owner. Also, not registered with BBB.

I had very dry feet with some heavy calluses so I opted for their best pedicure, the deluxe vip one. It definitely felt worth it. Tony did my pedicure and he was very warm and kind. I pointed out the calluses and he took extra care addressing them until smooth. My only complaint was he ended up cutting/filing one of my big toes too much that it looked close to bleeding (it did break so it was short), and too many coats of the nail polish made it thick. Still an amazing experience and still worth the price. I booked pretty last minute so I didn't get to book some of the staff I see recommended on here. I definitely want to return. P.S. the massage chair here is the best one I've experienced in any salon, AND the salon is right by menlo park's farmers market so it makes for a great little self-care day

She wasn't hurried, as many stylists these days are. She gave me a gorgeous hair cut (that doesn't require a lot of fussing in the morning) and styled it beautifully. Many people have commented on my new look and my husband absolutely loves it. This is a fantastic salon -- I highly recommend this gem of a spot in downtown Menlo Park!

BUT I'm was not pleased with my results after she finished. I clearly told her dramatic volume wispy. And even showed her a picture from yelp that I wanted! She was veryyy fast maybe 1hr. When I looked at them I told her plenty eyelashes were still empty and she said I can't do, next time with fill. I said no this isn't what I asked for. She said I can't do. I said fine and I paid her. Now that they are falling, these are the photos I have as evidence. I honestly want them all off because I'm going bald on my eyes. I started getting gooey. Please DO NOT go here if you're looking to get lashes done. This is not volume. I'm pretty sure she pre-made fans but has her set up like she don't. Be careful, $140 is not worth ugly work.

Had to wait forever for my color appointment before an important trip I was taking (day before…read moredeparture). The clock kept ticking....45 minutes of waiting. Irina was running extremely late. To her credit, I had been alerted she would be a little late but as the minutes ticked by it became unsettling. A loyal customer having to wait over 45 minutes for the stylist? We contacted her. She had been held up at a customers home doing color or something to that effect. I explained my dissatisfaction about having to wait close to an hour just because someone else had been running late and it was the day before my trip and I had other back-to-back appointments. I had thought she would have been overly accommodating and super apologetic. What happened was the complete opposite. Unfortunately, Irina, you were painfully rude to me. You spoke to me in a way and a tone that is unacceptable and therefore I won't be removing this post and won't be returning ever to Alex Chases again. This has left a bad taste in my mouth. After always being kind to everyone at the salon (always on time for my appointments, generous tips, holiday gifts, etc!). Irina said something like "What do you want me to do here?" and then expanded her barking tone with a "why don't you come in on Sunday?" I explained that I was leaving for my trip tomorrow. Silence and crickets. It was like her attitude was - well sorry I am running now close to an hour late, it was someone else's fault, therefore you come in on another day and that is that.... At this point I was so upset and shocked that anyone in the service business would treat a respected customer like this. Baffled. Dismayed. Shocked. Pit in my stomach. irritated to the nth degree. I then offered if I continued to wait (at this point I would have been waiting an hour and maybe 15 minutes for my appointment) that this service be gratis on behalf of the salon. She raised her voice and said, "Absolutely not. Covid has made all of us suffer. There is no way that is something we will do." I thought wow. We have all been in this pandemic together. Not just you, not just me, the whole world. Every business has suffered. Just because you're having a bad day or your first client made you wait a long time or the client was being a diva, don't take that out on someone who has always been kind to you and someone who has gone to you for a long time. This not only disappointed me but made me lose respect for the way the salon trains the staff. They need to be much more friendly and eager to please the client. I'm in the service business and wow do I know what service is all about. All I do each and everyday is treat my clients well and ALWAYS put them on a pedestal. If I am in the wrong, I admit that and do what it takes to make it right. I actually lose sleep if there is ever tension between the client and myself. I can't imagine ever speaking to my clients the way Irina spoke to me on that fateful day. To their credit, the manager and I spoke. He was very apologetic and kind to me. He gave me a gratis hair coloring appointment AFTER I returned from my trip. The funny thing is that day I went to CVS and got a bottle of Lorreal hair dye and did it myself. Sometimes a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! Since this event, I have changed salons and now go to La Belle. The go the extra mile there, scalp massage when shampooing, complimentary blow dry (Alex chases doesn't blow dry the hair unless you pay for it!), and even fetched me a latte next door at Blue Bottle when I was tired. Excellent service and exactly what I need at this point in my life. Life is too short to surround yourself with unhappy, toxic souls. The end.
