Requesting service for a Tesla is very different from taking a ICE car for service. Tesla uses technology and the appointments and service requests are done on the app. It maybe confusing at first if you never done it before so for many of their customers it can cause confusion. I followed the instructions on the app, made an appointment, show up at the appointment, put the car in "service mode". Went over to speak with a Service Advisor went over my concerns, and they gave me a loaner Tesla for a day. Follow the app for updates and I returned when the app said it was completed. I dropped off the loaner and my advisor asked if I had any other concerns or questions. I overall thought it was a pleasant experience. All the SA were nice and took my concerns and explained it to me very well what the plans and the repair process are. read more

I've owned my Tesla 3 for 3 years. I love my car and the couple of times I've taken it into the Gilman Service Center I had positive experiences. February 28, 2024 it was in for maintenance to replace a filter and rotate the tires. The people working with me were fantastic, I even spoke with the manager complementing them. Yesterday I took it to BMW of Walnut Creek and Nohr Auto Sales for an estimate to sell it. I want to buy a 2024 Model 3. They each informed me both front tires are BALD and the rear tires are nearly bald. Doesn't it seem irresponsible for safety reasons that Tesla service failed to report that to me on the spot? I'm very disappointed to have not received a response from them. read more

This shop is a hot mess. My car has been there too many times to count, primarily because they either create a new problem when they try to fix something, forget to fix something, or just don't fix it properly. It took 4 tries to fix window noise. It took 3 tries to fix an improperly installed back seat that wouldn't fold down, and on one of the tries they broke the seatbelt, rendering that side unusable. They just replaced my front tires and, per mobile service, left a tool in the damn car which is rattling around, and is now requiring a tow. They also disagreed with the gas station that told me I needed new back tires so didn't install them, and the mobile service guy who was just here told me that they're alarmingly wrong and that they clearly didn't look under the car - there's exposed wires on the back tires and I definitely need new ones. They also told me that they'd fixed a flapping door gasket on that trip, but they didn't, so that required another mobile service appointment. They almost never have loaners, are hard to get ahold of, and will screw up your car. I'm towing the car to Dublin in the hopes that someone capable actually works there. AVOID read more

This service center is horrible. My wife and I have had to deal with them on three separate occasions. They did not fix the problem and kept pushing it down the road. One issue was a camera calibration problem which they said they could only fix in their repair facility in Berkeley and it was there all day until the next day, and they returned it to us with the problem not fixed. The other issue was a minor one, it seemed, replacing a plastic cover panel for wiring in the backseat. We were told they had to do it at that location rather than mobile service. Again we dropped off the vehicle and at the end of the day they told us they didn't have the park so they couldn't install it even though we had prearranged the appointment. I don't know is poorly managed or they're hiring people who don't understand how to repair Teslas, but it makes owning a Tesla a regrettable experience. read more

This Tesla service location, and apparently most or all of the service locations, are filled with arrogant, unprofessional, unhelpful, poorly managed service representatives. The whole culture of Tesla's customer service appears to care little for the actual customer. I've taken my Model 3 to this location five or six times since I got it in 2018, and in every instance the Communication has been severely inadequate and frustrating. I requested the price of a specific part five times over the course of 15 days, was repeatedly told that they would give me the price shortly, and they never sent me the info until I drove over there in person and asked for the price at the counter. I also detailed my specific repair concerns in writing in my service request through the app. When I showed up to drop off the car, they told me they would not address intermittent issues unless I had video evidence of the problem. They failed to tell me that in advance when I might have had time to catch the issue on video. But what is really striking, is that none of the representatives I interacted with ever apologized for failing to communicate the info in a fashion that would have been useful. They act like it's all your problem, and like it's not their job to help you. The car itself is fantastic, and they bank on that alone. I I love my car, and I need to get it serviced sometimes, so I have no choice but to put up with this. Would I recommend taking your Tesla elsewhere? Not really. I don't think there are any better options, as the culture appears to be ubiquitous across the Bay Area Tesla service centers. The Berkeley Tesla Service Center is very accommodating in getting issues repaired that were noticed upon delivery. Be sure to request all service related issues via the Tesla app for a quicker smoother process. This allows the service team to know in advance all the details of repairs needed. Uploading photos also helps them to know what service is needed. The staff was very friendly and during these unprecedented times, they had the waiting room set up with social distancing protocols too. Due to so many cars being serviced be prepared that loaner cars are limited to for services that need to extend overnight. They did accommodate with Uber credits for ride service. read more

Just echoing the sentiments of the other apt one-star reviewers that this Tesla service location is garbage, especially if your car's out of warranty. While none of our previous appts. here have been good, the most recent was especially gross. I dropped off our call for our scheduled 11am appt last Thurs for an a/c repair, explaining this is our one and only car and we have 2 kids under 5, as I wanted to get an idea for how long the repairs would take as it's a real hardship going without a car to ferry little people. My jerkface service guy was evasive, made it clear he didn't give a s*** about the impact having no car would have on my family, made it clear they would not give a passing glance to a busted window we'd had problems with previously since this wasn't part of our original ask, and wouldn't give me any indication of when our car would be fixed. He was a real charmer. Aside from a generic "it's being looked at" message, we heard nothing from Tesla until Monday - FIVE DAYS after dropping off the car and we only got an update because I called. As far as I can tell, no one even looked at our car before Monday for a routine repair that they had the parts in stock for (i.e. something that should've been turned around in a day max). We did not get our vehicle back until end of day Tuesday. No one offered a courtesy car, no one offered to comp us for the incompetence/poor management/delays/poor communication, and nor did any manager offer an apology for their cesspool customer service. No friends, this is just standard operating procedure for this Tesla service location. For the love of the planet and your sanity, go electric - just make sure you buy anything but a Tesla to save yourself down the line when something very inevitably breaks, which is will - at least once a year in our experience. read more

This place is great, provided you don't mind (a) having no idea when you will get your car back, and (b) having no one to call to ask. I've received service here twice. The first time they kept my car for three days for a tire rotation. The second time they kept it for two days. They tell you to check your app for messages and updates. Total farce. They don't read your messages, and the app was reporting on time service on both occasions. Spare yourself the headache and go just about anywhere else. read more

(1) mobile service repair out of the Berkeley service ctr. They came out twice to repair window on my new M3 (2022) which was not properly set into the gasket. Arrive when expected. Got job done. Nice service people. (2) this summer had a slow leak in one of tires. Made an appt to bring the car in to Tesla Berkeley. I was quoted the full cost to replace the tire in case that was needed, but I did not want to chance a tire place lifting the M3 the wrong way. They were very good about looking at my car at the appointed time, They found a nail and there was some difficulty in removing it, which I don't fully understand. But they said the difficulty was their problem so they didn't charge me. Also, I thought I needed a tire rotation but they said no, so that saved me money too! I should have read the reviews before bring it here. Set up a service request. Took my car in to get service and they were going to take a few days got a loaner from them but it was all dirty with stains and small bugs inside. Wasted my time and went back got another loaner wasn't super clean at least they had vacuumed it. No one communicated about my car or what was going on, and when they did they told me the replacement wasn't order and it was gonna be another week, while the first tech told me it was order just waiting on another test. Once I got my car back, I had greasy marks all over my white seats in the back, my seat covers were twisted and thrown in back. I do not recommend this Tesla service center. read more

Why is service so awful at this place? Check in slow and rude. For some reason you have to wait for a particular attendant, even when there are 3 people standing behind the desk doing nothing. I've been to this service center 2-3 times before. Some of the check in people are super. But the overall experience is always disorganized and makes me want to go elsewhere. I need to try a different center. This time I would have gone to Burlingame. But my tire pressure was showing low so I couldn't drive too far. We had a flat tire off of HWy 13. My husband call AAA as we were waiting an angle stopped to help us. This angle is Mr. Ervin from tesla Road Side service. He was on his way home to eat lunch, but he noticed our car and he stopped to helped us. He try to repair the tire however he couldn't. He changed our tire and made sure all other tires were good. we were on our way in matter of 15 minutes. This young man needs to be recognized by tesla as an outstanding employee. I've been to this place twice. First time it was ok, second wasn't very successful. They haven't done any work and returned the car saying it was all fixed. Literally a day later all those issue came back. Unfortunately customers can't call the center directly and talk to a live person. Brought the model y in to get the infamous interior noise to be fix. After a few days in the shop. They swear it was tackled and fixed. Went to pick it up and drove right to the rough roads down the street. Instantly hear those damn rattles and squeaks. How incompetent are these mechanics ? He swear he done a ton of them and fix the problem when I talked to him when we did the ride around to hear the noise. The loaner they gave me was dirty as hell. Interior stinks of musty dirty gym. I really like my Tesla, BUT the Tesla service center in Berkeley is the worst auto service I've known. They are condescending, vindictive, and slow, and they don't seem to care that one knows it. They do have coffee and a spacious waiting room but I have little else positive to report. Oh, and they didn't steal anything from my car. Those are pretty low bars. None of my Tesla friends like the Berkeley site. Even if you live in Berkeley, go to another shop because it will be more efficient and a better experience. Probably less expensive too. I took my car there because I had a failed update that wouldn't reload. They are charging me a "diagnostic" fee of approx $278 just to get started and keeping the car for 2 days. I asked them to reload the software only. Even though the car was previously in perfect order before the failed update, up to and including tire pressure, they said that they won't help without leaving the car with them for 2 days and the "diagnostic" fee. I've had 2 previous similar experiences with Berkeley Tesla. I chalked it up to maybe I just got a bad worker, and gave them another chance. After this third time, I can tell you with confidence that you would be very likely to have poor service, surprise costs, and an unnecessarily bad experience. BTW Tesla requires one to agree to pay their fees just to check the car in at the service appointment. There's a chance that you might encounter someone who actually tries to be helpful, but I haven't met anyone helpful there yet. Some are polite. Most are a waste of time. I walked in without an appointment due to a clunking noise. (It was the main coolant fan that was not spinning, the one that cools the battery). Kerry told me to call road side assistance. Really? I just drove here why do I need a tow truck? Fortunately road side assistance was very helpful. They asked to speak with the person who told me to call them. Kerry said he didn't have time to talk on the phone with them. Ok, neither do i, but you told me to call them and now they want to ask you why! Road side assistance had to go behind his back to get me an enterprise loaner car. Then, he tried to tell me he wouldn't take my car in for service without an appointment! So now I've got 2 cars, my broken one and a loaner from enterprise. Ended up being late to work and spent the day apologizing to patients for making them wait for their treatment. read more

It is worth paying to have somebody else do any work on your tires. I had a tire repaired, and it cost $121. Their notes said that the tire was removed and patched. It is obvious that the tire was repaired with a plug. Note that some shops will plug a tire for free, others charge a small fee, typically less than $20. The front desk guys don't know much and are not helpful either. Save yourself $$ and time by going somewhere else... read more

Had my model 3 worked on 4th time, excessive rattles under dash, they didn't fix it, was told I have to pay, even if they don't fix the noise. The moment I leave the Parking lot. The "rough roads" will damage my car and if the noise continues before I get home I need to bring it back to have it repairs at my expense. It's been two weeks since I picked up my car from the Tesla service in Berkeley. A little time to decompress was called for since the service that fixed my problem was number five; yes, four prior attempts weren't successful. Like any negative relationship, you feel it's only happening to you. But after a quick review of the multiple negative Yelp comments, it's remarkable how similar the complaints are; one could say there's a pattern. For example, Cindy k, Skye B., and Craig B., to name a few, all state that they were ignored by the service rep (check), questioned about the validity of the complaint (check) and did not resolve the issue (check x4). All repairs fell outside of warranty, recall, or service recall (sadly, check again). I own a 7-year-old $100k plus Model X. Since I owned (I'm the second owner) it, I have had the main screen replaced (it was a service recall they didn't honor for a glitchy/ leaking screen), ALL the suspension front & back replaced (half-shafts were recalled but I was still charged), and the front motor was replaced (thankfully, Tesla honored this part). There's more, but the motor and suspension after seven years seems unreasonable. If this were BMW, Mercedes, or Audi, this car would have been written off as a "lemon." I tried to contact customer service, but Tesla doesn't have one. To this day, after extensive research, I could not find a customer service contact number or email. I randomly emailed the legal department out of desperation, and I received an email back 6 weeks later stating that I should contact the local service center. Unsurprisingly, the email wasn't from someone with a last name or contact information. How can a multi-billion dollar company not have customer service? How does one complain about the service they received if they have to report to the place and people who performed subpar work? Subpar service. Even though it took multiple visits to fix the problem, I was charged for subsequent visits, which uncovered additional issues. The service manager, Tim, and my tech support person claimed that my suspension needed to be replaced due to the car's time spent on New York roads and in the Bay Area. However, I own two other vehicles - a 2007 Honda Truck that mostly stayed in Tahoe and a 1985 BMW initially driven in the Alps in Switzerland - and neither required motor or suspension replacement. As for the multiple service visits, Tim, the service manager, intimated that Tesla grew at such a clip that finding, training, and keeping mechanics was a problem, but one that is getting worked out. That must explain why no post-service test drive was performed on suspension service number three. During that visit, I had to return the car immediately after I picked it up. It was that same service where parts weren't even put back, and wires were left dangling under the main screen. Why should customers endure this lack luster and subpar work while mechanics learn their trade? How and why is this possible? Not once did anyone apologize for being put out or let down. I can't remember a single instance where the service manager said, "Sorry." Worse, I have paid $7k for work that should have been but wasn't covered by service recalls or sloppy work. But Tim did replace the under-screen cubby hole, which my kid cracked when he stepped on it after it was left on the floor after service. So there's that. I cannot wait to unload this car and have Tesla in my rearview mirror. I have already convinced (well, Tesla's crappy after-sale service did that) three of my neighbors to buy different brands. One neighbor purchased an Ionic 6 instead of a Model 3; another bought a Mercedes GLC 300E instead of a Model Y; and my neighbor across from me bought a Mercedes EQS instead of a Model X. Who knows when Tesla sales start to plummet; maybe Tesla may consider revamping their customer service? An excellent place to begin would be creating a customer service department! read more

Brought it into this center and Danny immediately paired us with a new vehicle free of charge. Worst service ever!! Dirty loaners. Incompetent on every level. Inferior built cars. Five visits for the same problem and ongoing.

Not sure why this place has such a low rating! I've visited the shop twice for my model 3 and was pleasantly served both times. 1st time: the ball joint near the driver wheel keep making annoying squeaky sound whenever I break, accelerate and or turn the steering wheel. Made an appointment on the app and I'm set to get my baby checked out next week. It only took them 2-3 hours to fix the problem and thank goodness there was nothing wrong with the suspension. They still gave me a generous $100 Uber voucher for my time. My car was one year old and has gone through one vehicle accident and over 30,000miles but I'm glad that they covered all expenses under warranty (replacement of the left-upper arm thing) 2nd time was a bit minor: some one was trying to steal my license plate in Oakland but failed to steal the last screw. I rolled in without an appointment then Meely (sorry if I spelled her name wrong) was kind enough to assist me. The shallow screws were hard to find and more rare than certain gemstones! Rolled out again as a satisfied tesla owner ^^. Thanks again! read more

I am only writing this review of the Tesla Service Center in Berkeley because there have been so many scathing reviews (and I don't doubt the reviewers) and I would like to report a good, mostly, experience. I took my 2015 S in on January 5th because of (i) a cloudy screen in front of the steering wheel, and (ii) recently repeated instances of the message "unable to start vehicle: service required" (I was able to start it each time, eventually). I was given $100 a day in Uber credits (this has been the case once or twice previously but I have also had a Tesla loaner on several occasions and a Hertz rental car on several other occasions). The initial estimate was that the work would be finished on January 6th at 5:00 PM. As that time drew near, I tried to communicate through the app as to whether the vehicle would be ready around that time. No response. Annoying obviously, and is the reason I said that my experience was "mostly" good. The next afternoon (Saturday - I didn't know this but this Service Center is open on Saturday and recently on Sundays as well), a service manager called to tell me the car was ready but since my phone indicated that the caller was from a Phoenix area code, I didn't answer. But they also sent a text message and a message on the Tesla app to tell me the car was ready, so it all worked out. One last glitch: When I went to pick up the car, it was parked in the lot and the key was supposed to be in the glove box. It wasn't. They made me a new key promptly, delaying me only a few minutes. All the service managers I spoke to, on this and all prior occasions, were uniformly courteous and professional. As a final note, it seems that almost all of the negative Yelp reviews are from recent Tesla's, and I suspect that poor quality control in manufacturing has resulted in many defects in these cars, giving rise to enormous frustration on the part of the owners and the service people. Seeing this makes me doubt that I would ever buy a Tesla again (except perhaps another S) as I wouldn't want to experience the problems that the reviewers (and others on other media) are reporting. read more

I'll keep it 100% real that I was super worried about dropping my car off here for a windshield repair after reading reviews. Luckily dropping off my car and getting a loaner was pretty quick however I can't imagine leaving it for several days. The shop is off Gilman in a secure location and I was assisted right as I pulled up. Where things fell apart was when I got the loaner and when I picked up my car. The staff are sort of laisez faire when you walk up to the counter. My feeling is you could literally stand there and stare at them for minutes before someone offers any help. It was weird. When I secured my loaner car they pointed outside in no particular direction and said "ok it's parked out there". The same thing happened when my car was ready for pickup. They can't be bothered to walk you through your service or at the very least walk you to your car that was serviced to review what was worked on. Felt very Genius Bar at the Apple Store but with cars lol. They were on it when I needed to pay though and didn't show me to my car before asking me to pay my balance. Whole thing is a bit backwards IMO. The guy that helped me at the end of my service was like ya okay your cars out there and when I asked where the bathroom was he casually pointed behind me. I think most of us thought "you buy an objectively expensive car, you get white glove service when it needs to be fixed, right? " Wrong. I prefer mobile service but if I'm in a pinch I'll come here and next time I'll know what to expect. read more

A Tesla employee who drives a white Dodge Charger with no disable placard parks in the disabled parking spot multiple times per week. They also park cars that are in for service with no disabled placard in the disabled parking spaces daily. So disrespectful and discriminatory. Shame on you guys. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at the facilities and service! Someone had broken a small window by the back seat. Having emailed the problem to them, they had all of the necessary parts. The reception is very pleasant, with a WiFi code on the table for your convenience. The only criticism there is that they only had a coffee machine and supplies- a nice touch, but since I can't drink coffee, I would have liked some tea or a water. Very efficient service: the car was ready the same day, and I was given an Uber allowance sufficient for the day to complete some errands. The car came back clean and charged. Overall made a necessary task pleasant. read more

The repairs that were needed were made. I give 3 stars because the service was less than ideal. Went in on Wednesday morning and I was told the car will likely be completed in a day but no one called to update me. I tried calling and was unable to even leave a voicemail. I ended up calling the SF service center and they put some message out through their internal coms to have someone call me. Turns out a part was ordered and they were waiting on that. Car should be ready Wednesday by 4pm & they'll call me as soon as it is. No call. I call them in the morning Thursday to find that it's finally done, so I pick it up in the morning so that I can get on with my day. They didn't even bother to charge it up. Cmon guys. I think I'd rather go all the way to the Dublin service center. This was a really unfortunate experience. I feel that service in general is lacking. Curtis and team are awesome. Took it in originally for knocking/clicking noise when decel and accel from stop. Day before asked if they could change air filters and check for smell from A/C. Service appointment started right at 8am and they'd already updated the service appointment anticipating air filter and A/C cleaning refresh. To top it off under $300 total to fix everything. No more popping and smells fresh as new. Set up in the office in the lounge to work a couple hours and it was done 2-3 hrs before estimate. I drive across Bay Bridge from the Peninsula instead of other service centers over here. Worth the extra time every time. read more

I purchased a model S Plaid and have experienced multiple problems with it. I love the car, but the service center is terrible. They never answer the phone or app messages. I took it in for a cracked windshield and they installed a defective windshield, then forgot to glue the rear view mirror in place. Passenger door handle stopped working and was repaired incorrectly. They don't always have a loaner car. The shop seems constantly overwhelmed. Overall, not close to what I'd expect from a luxury car. Will not purchase another Tesla. read more

When they say "Touchless Experience" and that I can have my service "without having to interact directly with any Tesla staff" I definitely agree because after interacting with the advisor for 1 minute when I dropped my car, I never interacted with them again! They never responded to my messages or calls about the status of my car it was all automated responses. The service seems to be good except that during the service they inadvertently damaged some trim and put it back without noticing that it was damaged, luckily I noticed and they were able to rectify the issue once I informed them. They topped off my washer fluid and refilled my tires which is really nice but I just noticed that one of the tire valve stem caps is a different color than my original one, not sure what happened there, maybe they lost it and replaced it but I might have to go back to see if they have a similar one... They definitely did an OK job at taking care of my car, I definitely expect some scratches when brining a car into the dealer. Things I noticed: new scratches in a few areas, black grease in several areas, a new small gouge/paint chipped in the paint on my rear bumper (not there when I dropped it off). Not trying to be super picky but I don't mind scratches but there was chipped paint on my bumper which was kind of disappointing. All in all OK, but after trying out different service centers, I definitely feel like Vallejo has the better communication and quality of service from my experiences so far.
