Buckle up boys and girls because this little market is going to take you for a ridiculous journey…read moredown the craft beer rabbit hole. Freshfields Market is a small easily overlooked corner shop that looks like it's only used during those times in desperation (i.e., when all the other shops are closed and you NEED an obscure herb.) WRONG. Freshfields Market has an ASTONISHING array of local and international craft beers. Seriously, there is a whole freaking WALL devoted to the fine art of artisanal brews. From the well known craft breweries like Thornbridge to the distinctly local like Cronx, Freshfields has a dizzying selection of beers that would make even the most casual of drinkers tingle with excitement. Every time my husband and I visit we stand in front of the shelves like the proverbial kids in a candy shop unable to make a decision on which of the beers to try. It is no secret that I enjoy my beer. I brew it, I'm looking for a career in it... and this, man... this shop makes me feel like a child. It makes me excited to be a part of a growing demographic of young professionals who are looking to push the boundaries of brewing. Moreover, makes me excited as a consumer to see what was once a dwindling selection of ales suddenly explode into an interest in the "traditional" beer of England. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the selection Freshfields have got your back. They've hired a seasoned-drinker and well-educated staff member to help you pick out the perfect beer for your palate. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. They not only carry bottled beer but also they have the option of purchasing four pint carry outs that are tapped from two barrels so you get your beer straight from the barrel and not bottle conditioned. As far as the prices go, they're about the price you would expect to pay for craft beer - which is to say not that cheap. However, the last two times I have gone they have done a deal on craft beers - something like 6 craft beers for £12, I can't remember. Either way, this little corner shop may seem to be like any other but don't let the outside fool you, inside it is Croydon's very own craft beer Valhalla and if it suits you, I would go on a pilgrimage as soon as possible.

Such a superior corner food shop. Thanks to Rob H & Katie B for reporting the findings...from the…read moreoutside, this appears just to be a regular, run of the mill market...but once inside you'll be treated to a pleasant surprise. A huge organic selection. A whole shelf of tea. Racks of dried fruits (I am not addicted to dried figs), nuts (cashews!) and I even found jars of sunflower butter here...which is surprisingly good and a good alternative to peanut butter (which they also have). Fantastic ethnic cooking section chock full of sauces, ingredients, grains, rices, beans and any element you probably need, spices, decent bakery with breads, rolls, pitas, etc. Eggs and dairy, beer, wine, a lot of coconut water, and a fresh produce section (outside) which is standard, but nice to have. Things you won't find: fresh meats or fish. Par for the course! The family that runs it is very friendly as well (always so polite!) and I always leave feeling quite good about supporting a local food shop that is not only convenient, but tucked away from the madness of the Old Street roundabout. You can find almost everything in there, from bubble gum to grains, dried fruits, fresh fruits (very good selection), alcohol... Almost everything except fresh fish and meat. It is not the cheapest place to do your shopping, but for the quality they offer, it is quite fair. And the people that works there is always helpful and polite.

Okay, so first of all, this isn't open 24 hours; least of all on a Sunday, when it closes at 5PM…read morealong with every other grocery store in the area. That being said, even during the lockdowns, it is open fairly late and is really only one of two stores on this street that can be considered an actual supermarket. Enormous though it is- by UK standards- it isn't hard to get around inside and has two floors to keep things simple and easy to navigate, as well as an underground parking garage for those who dare to drive on these streets. Food and seasonal grocery-related items are on the bottom; clothing, toiletries, cookware, toys, and everything else are on the top. The prices here are very good for most items, and the quality ranges from, "I wouldn't trust this," to "I'll take ten!" The variety alone makes it worth the trip and the rather long checkout queues, as you're likely to be able to find everything you need in one go. Just don't expect a whole lot from the staff, as most will give you a lukewarm response, at best. If for any reason, you don't find what you're looking for, there are two other- smaller- grocery stores just a few minutes' walk down the street. And personally, I rather like walking here. Streatham High Street has a nice homey vibe to it.

A shiny new Tesco Extra in Streatham. Fun!…read more I headed down (rather further than my usual shopping ventures) as some friends had mentioned it and I wanted to check out this giant store that's now vaguely nearish me. There was something in particular I was looking for and while they didn't have it, 2 different associates were very nice in trying to help me locate it at another store. Overall, a nice place. Good location, lots of bright and natural light (always a bonus in any shop), and good selection.

If you had a inebriated Australian come up to you waving a crushed plastic hat covered in pink…read moresparkles in your face and shouting "Will you put on this hat?", would you comply? (If your answer is yes, I'll probably try to manipulate your agreeableness, asking for back rubs and gourmet meals, so watch out). Well, would you? They guys who work at this Superway would (after a bit of nudging, and no, I'm not asking them for the aforementioned things). You might think that sparkly hat ordeal is made up considering I say plenty of ridiculous things in my reviews. It's not.. I promise. I leave near by this place and I'm always in and out like a turtle and his shell when he's really scared then really relaxed then really scared then really relaaa.... right so. I go in here a lot. The guys who work here are always nice and put up with any hilarious shenanigans silly drunk Australians through their way. My roommate once broke a jar of salsa on the floor there when she knocked it with her bag, and the guys in the shop cleaned it up and told her not to worry about it. They could have gotten mad, but they did not. They could have danced a fiery tango with the broom, but they did not. This store also has a nice selection of humus, in case you wanted to know. It's basically an average grocery I suppose, but it holds a fondness in my heart. You can also top up your Oyster here. Now if that's not the cat's pajamas, I don't know what is
