Every time my husband and I visit we stand in front of the shelves like the proverbial kids in a candy shop unable to make a decision on which of the beers to try. It is no secret that I enjoy my beer. I brew it, I'm looking for a career in it... and this, man... this shop makes me feel like a child. They not only carry bottled beer but also they have the option of purchasing four pint carry outs that are tapped from two barrels so you get your beer straight from the barrel and not bottle conditioned. As far as the prices go, they're about the price you would expect to pay for craft beer - which is to say not that cheap. However, the last two times I have gone they have done a deal on craft beers - something like 6 craft beers for £12, I can't remember. This isn't a full size Waitrose, it has a limited range due to its small, urban site but you can buy the ingredients to make dinner from scratch, including seasonings and spices and that absolutely has to count for something. So while it sounds like I am somewhat damning it with faint praise, as the runners and riders are more like a donkey derby than the Epsom Derby, it only looks bad in comparison with other bigger branches, rather than the nearby Sainsbury's and Tesco. They also have a sandwich counter for lunchtimes and a full range of lunchtime sandwiches. Conceivably, you could do a full weekly shop here but it is a victim of its own success, as queues at the checkouts can be long and frustrating at peak times.
