The staff always seemed friendly, wanting to help pack your shopping. In the past I've had very good experiences here with helpful staff members finding and/or enquiring about having/ordering particular items. Very big for the usual size of Waitrose in London. Also handy for grabbing a bit of a snack before heading upstairs to the cinema! ;)

Not because she ID'ed me and my friend (we're 26 and 27 respectively), she pretty much threw our stuff down the checkout and rolled her eyes when we brought our own bags. There was nothing we could do right with this woman. We were perfectly friendly but she couldn't be bothered. We were in a great mood (getting ready to cook dinner for friends), but she didn't even so much as look at us unless it was to glare. Not impressed. At least in Asda they say hello.

As a small branch, the selection is inevitably limited, and the prices are a bit higher than Morrison's down the road, for example. But it's decent for a quick shop, and they sell both fresh bread and a reasonable selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, groceries and frozen goods.

Not content with destroying businesses in town centres with their giant convenient one-stop out of town giant supermarkets, they're now apparently not content with that and are now vying to compete directly with small and medium shops on the high street itself. This new Sainbury's Local opened opposite my church in the last few months. The prices here are a little higher than in their superstore just down the road but it carries a good selection of goods as well as providing a cashpoint outside. The only negative is that checkout can be quite slow as quite often, only one person is manning the till. There are self-checkout machines available, which are usually faster. As a shop, it should garner 4 stars but I'm taking one off on principle. As a nation, I think we have to make a choice about whether we want our high streets to be completely dominated by the big companies. All our town centres are already to look like each other wherever you are in the country and this is only going to get worse if we don't vote our feet and the government doesn't legislate.

The staff speaks English and Polish although sometimes they have helpers to fill the shelves who can't help you finding a product as they don't understand English. There's lovely bread and delicious cake on offer as well. It can be crammed after 4pm during the week but it only shows me the shop is popular in the area. Try not to go there on a Sunday as they have delivery day and the shop is full of cartons and boxes which block the aisles and make shopping not easy. You can reach the shop with the Central Line at Greenford Station - it is just opposite the station entrance - or with the buses 92, 105 and E6 to bus stop Greenford Station.

But it has everything you are likely to need for a weekly shop, and includes a fresh fish and deli counter. The entrance area has a small gardening section, stocked seasonally (so bulbs in the autumn, seeds in the spring, etc), alongside a decent cut flower section. There's a generous car park, though road access is slightly fiddly with a steep, sharp curve onto a narrow access road (drive slowly). Pedestrian (level) access is directly off Alexandra Road near the 156/493 bus stops, with a lift and stairs.

It carries a comprehensive range of goods and feels spacious and light. There is a sizeable car park and a nearby bus stop and it's about a ten-minute walk from the station. In recent years, Wimbledon has gone from none to three Waitrose stores within a couple of miles but they all seem to be doing well so the demand was clearly there.
