Buckle up boys and girls because this little market is going to take you for a ridiculous journey…read moredown the craft beer rabbit hole. Freshfields Market is a small easily overlooked corner shop that looks like it's only used during those times in desperation (i.e., when all the other shops are closed and you NEED an obscure herb.) WRONG. Freshfields Market has an ASTONISHING array of local and international craft beers. Seriously, there is a whole freaking WALL devoted to the fine art of artisanal brews. From the well known craft breweries like Thornbridge to the distinctly local like Cronx, Freshfields has a dizzying selection of beers that would make even the most casual of drinkers tingle with excitement. Every time my husband and I visit we stand in front of the shelves like the proverbial kids in a candy shop unable to make a decision on which of the beers to try. It is no secret that I enjoy my beer. I brew it, I'm looking for a career in it... and this, man... this shop makes me feel like a child. It makes me excited to be a part of a growing demographic of young professionals who are looking to push the boundaries of brewing. Moreover, makes me excited as a consumer to see what was once a dwindling selection of ales suddenly explode into an interest in the "traditional" beer of England. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the selection Freshfields have got your back. They've hired a seasoned-drinker and well-educated staff member to help you pick out the perfect beer for your palate. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. They not only carry bottled beer but also they have the option of purchasing four pint carry outs that are tapped from two barrels so you get your beer straight from the barrel and not bottle conditioned. As far as the prices go, they're about the price you would expect to pay for craft beer - which is to say not that cheap. However, the last two times I have gone they have done a deal on craft beers - something like 6 craft beers for £12, I can't remember. Either way, this little corner shop may seem to be like any other but don't let the outside fool you, inside it is Croydon's very own craft beer Valhalla and if it suits you, I would go on a pilgrimage as soon as possible.

Aldi - They should really take these down as they cannot actually achieve this when they are busy!!

Ok so if you've been to one Aldi you've been to them all…read more They have used the space well to accommodate the Aldi style of selling. The Isles area stocked with the usual Aldi goods. The German and other country versions of the well recognised brands you find I the more expensive supermarkets. The pluses for this shop is the location just up the road from the train station, so whether going to work, well actually not going to work as they don't open until 8am, or coming home from work it is a good location to grab those last minute items, from eggs to flowers and not forgetting that bottle of wine!! The bit which has disappointed me is the fact that they have hung a sign from the ceiling. The sign states that if you are cuing beyond a certain point they will open another till. Not true as I and many other were cuing beyond that point and no more tills were opened!! So Aldi unless you can actually back up that claim, which Tesco used some years back and then binned it as unless you have unlimited staff knocking around doing nothing I doubt you can actually achieve it, do not make that claim!!

Always with the best prices, of course. Quality, in my opinion, is the average found in other…read moresupermarkets. So, I enjoyed shopping in this Aldi! This place opened quite recently, and in the overall impression, it still looks good, in spite of the little lack of organisation in the aisles. The trolleys are found in the entrance by the car park, in case you come walking, you will have to go all the way to the back. Gets messy towards the end of the day, always with only a few lines available, they tend to get long. But the cashiers are lightning-fast! And they are mostly friendly. They charge for the bags, but they are super sturdy. And the options available are really good, never found something looking bad or not fresh, as they claim to be.

The vegetables here are a lot cheaper yet better than what you would get in Sainsburys…read more Realized this only recently and I think I have stopped going to Sainsburys now. This is not a superstore. Just a small one, like the size of a Tesco Metro maybe. They don't accept American Express. But come on. Who cares really? There are affordable alternatives to every expensive brand in the market. Be it chocolates, biscuits or breakfast cereals (actually a lot more, but I'll just stop here). I've heard some of my friends say that ALDI's milk doesn't last as long as what is written on the can, but I'm yet to find one like that.

I prefer Aldi to Lidl. Aldi sell really good quality fruit and vegetable that is cheaper than Lidl…read more You really have to be on the look out for bargains, because once you find them, those bargains sell out fast! As you would expect from discount supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl, you do have to queue for a while because there are only 1 or 2 members of staff at the checkout and you do need to bring your own shopping bags, otherwise Aldi can charge you. Also Aldi do not accept credit cards as payment, only cash and debit cards. We might take all these things for granted in other supermarkets, but Aldi do this in order to help keep their costs down and pass some of lower costs down to us customers. Overall, Aldi offers better quality food than Lidl.
