Having watched the doors of the London-bound train close in my face and not wanting to sit on the…read morecold metal bench at Martins Heron station for the next hour, waiting for the next London-bound train, I decided to head into Tesco for no other reason than warmth and to cure boredom. It's a big Tesco. I've never been in a big Tesco. I'm a Sainsbury's kind of girl. Anyway, the store offers free wifi (which I'm using right now!). At a high level, it's poorly laid out. The entrance leads to the clothing section, the produce section is in the back of the store, and the frozen items are near the tills. The layout sort of reminds me of a Super Wal-Mart in the US, minus a McDonald's and plus a Costa. Logically, it's smart to have the frozen section near the tills because this minimizes the amount of time frozen items are out of the freezer before checking out, so I'm OK with this. I'm not OK with the produce section being located in the back of the store and the clothing section being located near the entrance. Produce should be front-and-center, not in a spot that is difficult or time-consuming or complicated to get to. And who's gonna need to "run to Tesco" quick for a new pair of tights? I suspect not many. It's more likely that someone is gonna need to "run to Tesco" quick for, say, eggs or salad or bread or milk. And all of those items are located in the back of the store - the furthest from the tills! Not logical. Note: Sainsbury's has better produce than this Tesco did. Salad/lettuce was brown and basically ready for the rubbish bin. The Costa space is nice. Service was friendly though the barista could not understand my American accent and I had to repeat everything I said thrice. She made a good coffee and it warmed me up, so job well done. Job well done. Job well done.

The thing I really love about Sainsburys is that it keeps the riff raff out of Waitrose…read more This branch was built in late 2011 and features everything you could ask for in a supermarket. Eco friendly grass covered roof? Check Biodiversity area in the corner of the car park? Check Parking space to charge your electric car? Check It's a tree huggers dream yet it still manages to draw in the most ardent of ozone depleters such as myself. There's nothing I enjoy more than ditching the short walk from my house to the store in favour of cruising down there in my behemoth of an automobile with the engine so cold that instead of measuring the fuel consumption in miles per gallon you have to use gallons per mile. Once you arrive you are greeted to a clean and well laid out store with all the usual gubbins you would expect from a supermarket but with prices so high that all but the most lavish of grocery shoppers will have been scared away. However, you must not be afraid. Pay their inflated prices I tell you, pay them! As you walk around scanning your shopping and watching the total surpass the amount you paid for your first house take a moment to soak up the ambiance. Revel in the fact that you aren't constantly stopping behind shoppers who have shunned Facebook and instead choose to conduct their social networking on aisle 5 while creating a blockade with their trolleys. Rejoice at the relative emptyness of the store, you aren't an extra in a remake of 28 days later. No, you have merely escaped from the clutches of Tesco and found a better way and it is worth every penny.

I actually really like this Waitrose and is the only supermarket to be found between Sunningdale,…read moreSunninghill and Ascot without driving to the Sainsburys and Tescos in Bracknell or Staines. It's a good size - not overwhelmingly large but not so small it doesn't offer a choice. It's recently had a refurbishment with new checkouts and updated store design. You'll find reduced price bargains (meat and bakery) if you pop in just before closing on weekdays. They also have 'green' checkouts for customers who don't require plastic bags - cardboard boxes are usually available from behind the checkouts. There is free parking but this does get chocker with 44s, especially at weekends. Unless you have a disability, I recommend parking at the end of the car park. You'll reduce the risk of a BMW X5 reversing into you and you'll have a less stressful shopping experience. Because it's a smallish shop, you'll usually see the bright and breezy manager or deputy manager walking the floor - extremely unusual in today's supermarkets.

Lots of pepole that think they are the only person in the world, pushing trollys into you rather than showing some sensibility and going round you as you do to them. If you are not getting a trolley driven at you inside someone is driving their 44 at you in the car park. Incredibly badly designed car park and bad use of space. AVOID at all costs on a saturday morning!! Staff are very friendly though and couldn't do more for you, shame it is let down by the customers.
