Eco friendly grass covered roof? Check Biodiversity area in the corner of the car park? Check Parking space to charge your electric car? Check It's a tree huggers dream yet it still manages to draw in the most ardent of ozone depleters such as myself. There's nothing I enjoy more than ditching the short walk from my house to the store in favour of cruising down there in my behemoth of an automobile with the engine so cold that instead of measuring the fuel consumption in miles per gallon you have to use gallons per mile. Once you arrive you are greeted to a clean and well laid out store with all the usual gubbins you would expect from a supermarket but with prices so high that all but the most lavish of grocery shoppers will have been scared away. However, you must not be afraid. Pay their inflated prices I tell you, pay them! As you walk around scanning your shopping and watching the total surpass the amount you paid for your first house take a moment to soak up the ambiance. Revel in the fact that you aren't constantly stopping behind shoppers who have shunned Facebook and instead choose to conduct their social networking on aisle 5 while creating a blockade with their trolleys. Rejoice at the relative emptyness of the store, you aren't an extra in a remake of 28 days later. No, you have merely escaped from the clutches of Tesco and found a better way and it is worth every penny.

It's a good size - not overwhelmingly large but not so small it doesn't offer a choice. It's recently had a refurbishment with new checkouts and updated store design. You'll find reduced price bargains (meat and bakery) if you pop in just before closing on weekdays. They also have 'green' checkouts for customers who don't require plastic bags - cardboard boxes are usually available from behind the checkouts. There is free parking but this does get chocker with 44s, especially at weekends. Unless you have a disability, I recommend parking at the end of the car park. You'll reduce the risk of a BMW X5 reversing into you and you'll have a less stressful shopping experience. Because it's a smallish shop, you'll usually see the bright and breezy manager or deputy manager walking the floor - extremely unusual in today's supermarkets.

There is a small display of fruit and vegetables and this is fresh. They sell fresh baked bread and cakes and lots of sweets! Its a good convenience shop to pop into if you need extras like bread and milk as it is well stocked and they have a nice range of ready meals as well as a small display of meat. There is a good range of wines and beers as well as soft drinks. The staff are usually friendly and quick but it can get busy. You can use your clubcard for your shopping as well.

They also seem to know where most products are if you cant find anything unlike quite a few supermarkets where they don't actually know where products are. Overall good store.

My nearest stores happened to be opposite each other in Blackwater, Camberley and so, on a trip to Camberley I decided to take a look. Aldi is situated on a junction controlled by traffic lights and so it's easy to get in and out of. It has it's own car park but beware - it's only for Aldi shoppers so don't be tempted to go in and then wander down the road to another shop! Trolleys, released by inserting the obligatory £1 coin are available outside of the store. As you enter I was pleasantly surprised. The store looked a lot brighter and more up market than I'd expected. As I went further into the store I found it neatly arranged and tidy although the initial feeling of quality was lost. The quality of produce looked very good and the prices were reasonable. Some goods were cheap, others on a par with regular supermarkets. Of the store cupboard items (and this is what I was interested in) the majority were copies of major brand names at about 2/3rds of the price. Those I tried were good or acceptable. The bakery products were actually very good. Fresh meat and frozen produce looked OK but, as I was far from home, I didn't buy. Aldi have a rotating stock of non-food goods and these seemed to be reasonable although not good value. Carrier bags must be bought and are not provided free of charge. Credit cards are not accepted (although debit cards are). It's all designed to be no-frills and efficient. It works. The most negative aspect of the store is that you come out onto the main road, with a trolley and then have to cross the entrance to the car park in order to reach your car. This feels a bit dangerous. I was certainly more impressed with Aldi than I was with the Lidl across the road.

There is an average variety of stock, however a lot of items are near to their sell by date and they tend to have hardly any stock of each item.

The cafe is a bit old-fashioned and depressing, although the meals served are quite tasty and arrive fairly quickly.

Still, what did you expect from a 24 hour petrol station shop? They are all expensive, at least here you can buy something to eat which doesn't contain more calories and saturated fat than a deep fried tub of lard coated in batter and smothered in cheese. Everything is brand new so it all looks shiny and appealing. Out of hours I would recommend it, but between 9am & 9pm you may as well keep driving for the extra 5 minutes it will take you to get to big Waitrose and take advantage of better prices and more choice.

Somewhere central so you didn't have to get in your car everytime you needed a loaf of bread or some oranges. So congratulations to Waitrose for meeting that need. It took Waitrose a while to settle into their market. For a while, they tried to be more like a deli, with little discounting and not many customers doing a weekly shop. Either the credit crunch or a sensible reappraisal led them to introduce price commitments and reductions. While not there yet, I am sure what all local residents really want is Waitrose quality at Tesco prices, and if that's how we keep buying maybe Waitrose will start to provide.
