And although we didn't get a chance to partake in their food in the dining room --- we did visit the cellar and had some fantastic wines. The atmosphere along with the friendly/knowledge staff made this one of the best wineries we visited in the area. I realize that everyone has a different palette --- but the stand out wine for me was their slightly carbonated Syrah. It was not only fantastic, but was the most unique wine I tried. I enjoyed it so much that I purchased a bottle to return with back to the states.

Head into the cellar door and you'll find a bar to do tastings, a cafe and restaurant. But we recommend heading outdoors and having a wine after your tasting as the view is breathtaking! There's also a elevated decking right out on the vines with some amazing art and we think they've done a great job architecturally in setting this place up. The wine tasting is enjoyable, and we undertake this in our group whilst seated outside. The cost for a group of 5 or more is $5 for a tasting fee. The place is super busy the day we are there, so you are recommended to book ahead. In the tasting, we walk through the wines from white to red with the Mountain Ridge semillon, Mountain Ridge Pinot Gris, Mountain Ridge Rose, Mountain Ridge Sparkling Chamborcin, and finish with a Mountain Ridge Tawny Port, perfect to pair with dessert. We personally also love their macadamia liqueur which we tried at a local restaurant. The host let us also try a watermelon liqueur slushee, all the rage at the moment, and seemed to be popular with people at the winery. This was my favourite! It's an amazing place to visit if down in the south coast. We've already recommended this to plenty of people! It's also kid and dog friendly!

We stood around for 10 minutes, I guess expecting that we were missing something but the tasting room cum bar continued. We left having tasted nor seen anyone tasting a single glass of wine. I appreciate the entrepreneurialism in creating somewhere that people want to come and hang out but it seems that this has taken over from what I believe should be your core activity. Wine tasting. Every 'organic' vineyard i've ever been to has been pretentious and not really great tasting so I…read moredidn't have high expectations when we drove out to Krinklewood on the recommendation of a friend who's brother swears by the stuff. When we arrived I was gobsmacked. Krinklewood has to be one of the most beautiful wineries in the Hunter if not anywhere. It has a real Tuscan feel to it and there are chook and peacocks bobbing about (you can buy their fresh eggs here too). The staff were really friendly and really down to earth and if you're in a small group you can pull up a chair and table anywhere inside or out and they'll bring all the wines to you to taste. Even more surprising to me was that their wines were amazing. I'm not normally a white drinker but walked away with half a dozen of their Semmilon and quite a few reds. Just about everyone in the group bought something and quite a few of us joined their wine club as well. Definitely put Krinklewood on your list of vineyards to visit even if it is only just for the spectacular scenery.
