The bar service and drinks are absolutely wonderful…read more As someone more accustomed to drinking spirits at home than in bars, I was a bit nervous on what I could order. I did as much research online as I could about the cocktails that were made here and whether or not I'd be able to have them (allergies and dietary restrictions). Initially I went in thinking that I'd only be able to order 2 types of drinks (a margarita and a mojito) since they were both rum-based, which at the moment is the only type of spirit I can consume without having to deal with angry red splotches on my face and arms (vodka and whiskey just don't agree with my skin I suppose). But the bartender asked me what types of alcohols I preferred, so that he could make me something that I could have without worrying about substituting ingredients from certain menu items. He was able to make me 2 Sailor Jerry rums over ice and I can't quite remember what the other ingredients were, but I'm pretty sure there was cinnamon, lemon/lime juice, and something else which tasted amazing!!! I then proceeded to try the mojito, which was SO beautifully prepared, and tasted just as great as it looked. Something about lime (and mint) in drinks makes my tastebuds extra happy. And I'm not one to usually like drinks with any sort of fizz in them, but this mojito was just, I've found myself saying it a lot in this review, beautiful. And lastly the margarita. I almost felt sad drinking out of the glass because the presentation seemed so intricate and aesthetically pleasing! Again, outstanding craftmanship by the bartender. The sips I took of the drink coupled with the salted rim of the glass were an adventure. I finished the entire drink in 15 minutes (while saving a sip for my partner to try) but at no point in that time was I able to figure out what that intriguing and delicious taste combination reminded me of. It tasted so familiar yet so new to me. Fantastic. Out of all four drinks I had, I can't say that any one of them is better than the other, but the Sailor Jerry mix definitely made it's way into one of my favorite drinks I've ever had in my life, no joke. I was a bit too tipsy to properly look for the bartender who made these drinks for me, but if I could've found him I'd like to thank and compliment him on his craftmanship!

And it should - rumour has it it's the oldest tourist hotel in Australia, continuously operating since 1878. Playing host to royalty and the wealthiest of wealthy in its former life, it's now a perfect place along your roadtrip to stop for a pint, snuggle up to an open fire and thank your lucky stars that you don't have to hop in your horse-drawn carriage to enjoy the Blue Mountains. And hey, if things at the beer garden get a bit out of hand, they still offer accommodation. Word to the wise: portions are *massive* so what you intend to be a "small nibble" of soup and salad will actually be enough to bathe in and subsequently string together Adam and Eve style.

I got lost in history and curiosity as I ventured round trying to find any sort of bistro area. I eventually did ...... it looked like an old 70's type bowling club eatery. It was good enough, just didn't fit the period of the building .... must have been the last renovation .... in the 70's. It had lots of rooms and doors leading to all sorts of nooks. There were a few people around but spread out leaving it without any real atmosphere. I would like to come back one day ..... but may leave it alittle while. Ps. the food was ok ..... a meat pie & midi !

The Garden Tap is an informal, small bar/pub food type place while The Cook's Garden is a fairly swanky (and very good) restaurant. We managed to leave the kids at home and go out for our wedding anniversary (19 years, thanks for asking). We had a booking at The Cook's Garden next door but stopped in here for a quick drink before dinner. We were very tempted to stay here instead. This is a small bar in the suburbs, so already a rarity. It's relaxed and casual. It's also not tragically hipster, which is a real rarity for a small bar. The drink selection is good (but not huge) with some nice craft beers and ciders. The food looks amazing though. Superb looking burgers. Amazing looking steaks. We very nearly cancelled our booking next door and ate here instead. We didn't though. We had a very nice meal next door and will have to eat (rather than just look at) the food next time. It's kid friendly so the next time we feel like taking the family out for the night we may well go here.

And a glass of cold Sav Blanc. Life is good! On Sunday afternoons they have live music. It kicks off from 4. And each Sunday a Sunday Roast is on the menu. This week it will be pink roasted lamb saddle, zaataar spiced stuffing and baked kiplers.

There is a courtyard with two levels of seating and at least two different rooms inside. As others have said, they do seem to cater to smokers, but we were able to find a spot that was pretty much smoke free in the courtyard. It was quite busy as we arrive about 5:30 and there were a lot of locals that appeared to have just gotten off work and were enjoying drinks. It is near/in the CBD close to the train station. They have copper beer tanks which are supposed to be filled with fresh Carlton Draught beer directly from the brewery. I tried it, and it didn't seem to maker the beer any better. Maybe it does taste different, but I could not tell. They did have a good beer selection overall. What seems to be somewhat typical in the area, we ordered at the bar, and were give a buzzer to let us know when our food was ready. We then went and picked it up from the counter along with utensils. We had the Crispy Skin Pork Belly and the Crab ravioli Both were very tasty and exceeded our expectations. The only reason They get 4 instead of 5 stars is the smoking and that we didn't really finds a designated non-smoking area. I'd go there again.
