Every 'organic' vineyard i've ever been to has been pretentious and not really great tasting so I didn't have high expectations when we drove out to Krinklewood on the recommendation of a friend who's brother swears by the stuff.
When we arrived I was gobsmacked. Krinklewood has to be one of the most beautiful wineries in the Hunter if not anywhere. It has a real Tuscan feel to it and there are chook and peacocks bobbing about (you can buy their fresh eggs here too).
The staff were really friendly and really down to earth and if you're in a small group you can pull up a chair and table anywhere inside or out and they'll bring all the wines to you to taste.
Even more surprising to me was that their wines were amazing. I'm not normally a white drinker but walked away with half a dozen of their Semmilon and quite a few reds. Just about everyone in the group bought something and quite a few of us joined their wine club as well.
Definitely put Krinklewood on your list of vineyards to visit even if it is only just for the spectacular scenery. read more
