I'd tasted an organic red wine at Café Lounge earlier in the week (their house drop, actually, at just $6 a glass), and was determined to find something as close as possible. Northbridge Cellars was the first stop, their range of boutique wines hinting at the possibility of small batch, chemical-free vintages.
They didn't have the exact bottle I was after. But, by describing the flavour, friendly store manager Patrick went through a bunch of different bottles with me to try to find the best match for a decent price (much like organic produce, turns out these wines can get a little exxy). I was somehow coaxed into leaving the shop with an organic shiraz, coming in at a much pricier than usual $37.
This classy bottle shop also hosts in-house wine tastings on Saturday afternoons, as well as lengthier wine education courses. read more
