By far the best winery out of the five we visited during our tour last Saturday!
We got the same introduction speech in this winery than in the other ones: "we are unique, we are the ones, we are the true winemakers, do not take us for all the other wine criminals that ..." blablabla.
Last time speeches like that were made on such a scale, it was 1929 and a young angry guy was preaching all over Munich, Germany. Just saying ...
But this guy, the winemaker himself, was actually genuinely trying to get us to understand his wine. He gave us time, water, little snacks and a limited selection so that we would grasp the essence of his wine-making. And he succeeded! As he said, wine is a drink made for the people: either they like and they drink it or they don't like it and they don't drink. It isn't rocket science!
His wine was not the best I've had in the valley, but it was unique to the day. Read the photo with my notes - if you don't like the handwriting then I hope you drop your phone - and you'll see the 2011 Premium Shiraz and the 2015 Mandala have something new to offer.
If you go out there, try it before lunch when your senses are open to the fullest!
Then have duck for lunch with a 2009 Shiraz and Cabernet-Merlot blend, because duck fat and red wine are good for you! read more
