The restaurant has a kitchen garden complete with chooks freely roaming inside their considerably large pen. The produce they use are either local or come fresh from the garden, the free range eggs, heirloom garden vegetables, strawberries, herbs and others, even their wine comes from the grapes grown in their vineyard here in Broke Fordwich. I had the baked eggs with chorizo, tomato, saffron and manchego. A hearty combination and accompanied with a locally sourced coffee definitely warmed my morning. My husband had the Margan Breakfast. It's their version of a big breakfast with eggs, bacon, tomato and black pudding. It was tasty and my husband thought the black pudding was a very tasty hashbrown, and I didn't want to burst his bubble. And don't get me started on the buttermilk pancakes my son had, with honeycomb, banana and creme fraiche. The pancake was fluffy, the honeycomb added texture and the creme fraiche balanced the flavour without being overly sweet. The staff were warm and attentive. The restaurant normally operates for lunch and dinner, but they open for breakfast on Sunday. It's best if you book in advance, as their opening hours may vary. Then we went to the cellar door to taste and purchase some of their award winning wine. It was a perfect way to start the day!

The space is beautiful, with an open and airy tasting room overlooking the vast vineyard (one of the few wineries in the area that grows its own grapes). There's a little something different about the wines here--the flavors are something of their own. I brought back a bottle of their oaked semillon, which was light and refreshing and stored in California Oak barrels (I'd get the same thing back here in CA if I could, but you certainly don't see a lot of semillon around here), as well as a bottle of their shiraz, which had a peppery kick to it. The lady who led us through the tastings (we had come with a tour group) was very sweet and seemed to love her job. We ended our visit with a tour of the wine cellar and the lovely outdoor area of the building, which reminded me of being in Tuscany but is apparently modeled after Southern Spain. I also love all of the family history they have - you can see the original timber hut that the founder built in the 1850s!
