The winery itself is lovely and the music in the courtyard and general atmosphere was inviting. The thing is, we came here to taste and, very likely, buy wine and that's where it went wrong. The tasting room didn't really seem to have anywhere to taste wine, the counter was being used as a bar so there was a queue of people buying what seemed like mostly bottles of Carlton Draft (sheesh, at least sell only decent beers) and odd glass of wine. We stood around for 10 minutes, I guess expecting that we were missing something but the tasting room cum bar continued. We left having tasted nor seen anyone tasting a single glass of wine.
I appreciate the entrepreneurialism in creating somewhere that people want to come and hang out but it seems that this has taken over from what I believe should be your core activity. Wine tasting. As a couple who visited several wineries in the area and who always find ourselves purchasing several cases of wine to take with us, Joadja was so intent on creating a bar and selling beer that they left money on the table. read more
