Grilled shrimp platter
Tim P.

Enjoyed a meal here on the other side of the bridge in Akumal. This is an authentic Mexican food restaurant. Unfortunately it was pouring rain so we were the only ones in there. It is upstairs a bock from the bridge exit to the town of Akumal. We started with good margaritas and chips and pico. Both were good. I ordered the grilled shrimp and my wife got the burger and fries. The shrimp was perfectly grilled with a chipotle dipping sauce. Also came with grilled veggies and rice. Both good. My wife loved her burger, but the fries were undercooked. Her burger was loaded and she added avocado and cheese. Service was good and the owner very nice.

Ceviche

The food was delicious. The best ceviche I've had since coming to Akumal. So fresh. The tortilla chips with pico de gallo was also fresh and yummy. Service was excellent- we were eating outside and the staff even brought us out mosquito repellent. So nice. My husband got the burger & fries- he said it was delicious as well. Definitely worth a visit - we will be back!!

Best shrimp ceviche in Akumal

Easily the most popular spot in The Akumal Pueblo. Local food and prices are decent. The ceviche is easily the best I've had in Mexico. That's a bold statement as I literally eat ceviche at every restaurant I go to here. Prawns were so fresh and the portions are large. This is a must try dish here. They do serve alcohol here unlike many of the other local spots. Prices aren't bad for drinks either. We had a margarita and a pina colada. Both were good. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes here.

Yummy and affordable local bar. Wing nights on Tuesday (as of this writing), and other good dishes (enchiladas, nachos) and drinks. The owner can have the kitchen prep dishes off-menu. This low-key and cool atmosphere is THE place I go to eat in Akumal Pueblo

Guacamole. Good but I definitely make way better guac myself
Tuli S.

The food wasn't great but the service was! We were on our way to tulum so we had to stop for a quick bite. The food was cheap and the guac was average. There is a taco place a few doors down that was highly recommended. It closed at 4 so we missed it!

Looking out the front of Tequilaville.

Tequilaville is awesome. Great food. Coldest and cheapest beer in town. Great owner. He does a toy drive every Christmas for the children of Akumal.

Enough said!!! The Guac didn't stand a chance. It was gone before it hit the table. The Chicken Tacos are the best. Thanks Gilly.

Everything was great - tacos, the grouper grilled in garlic and butter, and the best ceviche we had this trip to the Yucatan.

This beach club beckons you with its pop music and youthful demographic. It certainly seems like a happening spot right there on the beach. What's our take on La Playa? Let's get straight to the point... Atmosphere - Located on one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, the atmosphere is absolutely amazing by itself. La Playa plays a mix of music and creates a sort of "low key party vibe" while guests lounge on padded chairs or mattresses while sipping margaritas and eating ceviche. Everything was spaced out and clean, adhering to Covid restrictions. Temps are checked and guests are tracked via their website before entrance which adds to safety at this time. Rating 5/5 Service - As a couple of other reviewers noted, it depends on who you get here. Our server was not very attentive and failed to check on us multiple times during our visit. Our food was also an hour late getting to us and Louis, the manager had to serve it to us himself. Although the issue was resolved in the end, we were not notified ahead of time and the lack of communication as well as failure to take initiative on the part of the staff is a reason to remove a star from this review. Service should be exceptional for the price you pay here ($55 minimum for a meal and 2 drinks) and it was lacking in this area unfortunately. Rating 4/5 Food - Food was muy bueno, although it arrived to us an hour late. We would definitely recommend the nachos and ceviche which turned out to be very hearty and flavorful! Pricing can be on the expensive side, (but hey, we are on the Caribbean side of Mexico, so we've learned to expect that) however, sizes are appropriate and plentiful for 2 people. Drinks were made well and there is a good selection to choose from. Rating 5/5 Overall, La Playa is a nice place to "chill" and relax on the beach for a day should you visit the area and want to lounge at a hip beach club. Expect pricing to be a little high as it can be quite touristy along this strip in Xpu-Ha, although, for the experience and views it may very well be worth it!

Unfortunately, the second (last) time we came, the water was absolutely full of tiny particles of trash. You simply couldn't avoid it, and it was super gross. I only went in the water for 10 minutes, though I normally would have loved to swim for hours. My kids had bits of plastic in their hair and under their bathing suits after their own swims. Yuck. The beach club is fine. There's a mix of palapas, umbrellas, and canopies for shade, but that does cost extra (see below). The lounge chairs are nothing special but do the job. Food and drinks are decent. Quality of service is very dependent on who your server is - Amado was fantastic, but the server on our second visit was not. There's plenty of free parking, and you can park close if you arrive early - be aware the dirt road in is eroded and very bumpy though. We never used the bathrooms. I felt value was pretty good: - If you simply want beach access to put your towel down, 50 pesos per person. - if you want to use the club for restaurant service, it's 200 pesos per adults, 100 per child, but think of it as a deposit because this is deducted from your final bill. - to rent lounge chairs, it's an extra 120 pesos per chair, and only on the second visit did they tell us we could return those wristbands for 40 pesos back.

A laid back wood fired pizza spot with a super cool, relaxed ambience and the friendliest energy. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and honestly I've never had anything like it. It's insanely good. Pair it with their habanero sauce and jalapeños and it is literally fire. Perfectly cooked, bold flavor, unforgettable. We also ordered the Caprese with apples, almonds, and beets and wow. Such a fresh and different take on a salad. Every ingredient tasted so clean and vibrant. My tummy was genuinely happy after this meal, which says a lot. It's not far from where we're staying near Azulik, which made it even better. The vibe is effortless, chill, and welcoming. Bonus points for the two local cats, who are absolutely adorable and add so much charm to the place. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and the menu has so many choices that there is truly something for everyone. If pizza is your love language and you're anywhere near Tulum, Boccanera is a must visit.

We put our name on a list, but no phone number was given so really it's a wait for a table or come back type of situation. We ended up leaving and coming back 40 mins later and were sat quickly outside. The pizzas are OUTSTANDING! I think the reviews all say that and it's the truth. The crust is Neapolitan style thinner crust but the flavor is just spot on! The toppings and sauce are well balanced. The roasted chicken was a great addition to the vegetarian. If they made cheese sticks with a marinara sauce with that crust it would be a HUGE seller! The green salad was pretty standard and not much that was memorable or forgettable, just good and as expected. Unfortunately, the bruschetta was a huge let down -- we literally received halved cherry tomatoes on a piece of bread. They served it with olive oil to drizzle, but that did not even come close to what we expected. There are a few cats that roam the outside patio, but they don't bother you much. The staff was welcoming and we had good conversation with the server even for it being 20 mins before they closed.

The lovely lady that was working the bar whose name we both already forgot was the warmest, most enthusiastic and positive person you could ever meet! She smiled so much it almost made MY cheeks hurt! She sang along with every song that came on! We had the nachos con res the first visit, and a few of their IPA beers. My favorite was the Mosaic IPA. EXCELLENT beer! The nachos were fantastic, but the two condiments that came with them were REALLY hot!! Consider yourself warned! Also had a freshly made Don Julio Margarita! One of the days, the bar was closed because they were having mechanical issues with the refrigeration system. But the next day we went back and had beef tacos and some more IPA. Again, this lady just made the place vibrant and cheerful. On our final day, we went back and there was a guy working there. This guy never smiled. He was low energy and really should not be working in a position where he deals with the public. Because of his unfriendly demeanor we decided to just have one beer each and go on with our day. Since the order was so small, we decided to just pay cash. This guy tipped himself GENEROUSLY! Let's put it this way. The tacos and I think 5-6 beers cost $53US. He charged us $20US for two beers!! Either way, we had a fantastic vacation, and we will be back as soon as possible!!
