Order: 2 meat plate - 10/10 tri-tip & brisket 10/10 great Smokey flavor. Juicy with a perfect crust. Sides- green chili Mac and cheese 10/10 Potato salad - 9/10 great flavor and a nice cold side for the warm BBQ Rice Pilaf - 8/10 good flavor, not dry Brisket Chili beans 10/10 good flavor with the perfect amount of meat and beans Chicken lollipop- 10/10 moist chicken drumstick wrapped in bacon and bbq sauce. Texas Twinkie- 10/10 jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and brisket wrapped in bacon. A must try... big enough to have as part of a meal My sister ordered the chopped chicken sandwich, I only rate this as a 6/10 because I was not a fan of the sweet bbq sauce and that is what is the chicken is drenched in.. spicy bbq sauce was not spicy at all in my opinion but I like spicy food. The sweet bbq sauce was too tangy for me. If we knew and change the sauce the sandwich would of been a 10/10 Banana pudding 10/10 so yummy, the perfect sweetness Last but not least, the chile verde ribs were fire 10/10 such a great combination. The ribs were tender and full of flavor I need to make this a regular stop for now on.

The BBQ was great, but what really stood out to me was the owner. He took a good 20 minutes to explain his methods, what goes into the process, and the passion he has for his craft. Great food, great conversation, and you can tell there's a lot of pride behind the BBQ. Plenty of places to eat outside and decent amount of seating inside. The meat was dry and tough and lacked flavor. The best part of the meal was the salsa. The pico was great, the green chili was also great. All in all, it was okay, but not great.

Taqueria El Premio Mayor is a good reason to make the journey, which, for the record, requires neither a passport nor provisions. A few blocks off Blackstone, near Manchester Mall, the surroundings show their age. With miniature liquor bottles scattered about the parking lot, it's an older, worn stretch of Fresno, but there is good food here and people happy to feed you. Whatever apprehension some diners might bring along should begin to dissolve at the counter, where the staff are friendly, efficient, and welcoming. Photos of the late Adrian Loza appear around the restaurant, and his likeness is part of the logo. Though he has sadly passed away, his presence is still felt throughout the place. The family atmosphere hasn't diminished with his passing. There is warmth here that goes beyond the pictures on the wall, carried on by the people greeting you and getting your food to the table. And the food? Excellent. The tacos and burritos are the sort that make you plan a return visit while you're still eating, although the gordita taco complicates the question of what to order next time. Its thick tortilla brings to mind the Indian fry bread tacos you might find at the fair, with the tortilla itself as much a reason to order it as anything tucked inside. There are hamburgers and hot dogs on the menu, too, perhaps a good option if you have children with you, but I've yet to find a reason to let them interrupt my progress through the tacos. Places like El Premio Mayor are part of what makes eating in Fresno worthwhile: food you want to come back for, served by people who make you happy you came. Go south of Shaw. The expedition takes twenty minutes, and there's a gordita taco at the end of it.

Tucked away in an awkward little spot between Shields and Maroa... it's not a nice, extravagant restaurant but it's exactly the place I would go to for tacos. It's a small little shop but they have more seating than you'd expect. Clean, nice staff, quick service, and amazing food? Yes, please. I got two Tripa tacos, one Cabeza-- everything on it. I did not realize 'everything' included the cabbage (next time, no)... the tacos were still bomb af but I'd prefer it without the cabbage next time, just the onions and cilantro. The salsa was perfect, loved the grilled onions, and the grilled jalapeno (need extra of that). Also got the Piña Agua Fresca-- very refreshing, yum! My friend got two Lengua tacos, one Adobad, and the Horchata... she was verrrry satisfied as well. We left with happy tummies. Two thumbs up! Until next time... because there definitely will be a next time! Adios!
