Went here last week with my dad. I really enjoyed it. Locally owned by an Ecuadorian and Mexican couple. The ambiance is warm and reminds me of a place you would find in South America or Mexico. Spanish music plays while there are TV screens showcasing what they have available on the menu. Very enticing indeed and definitely good marketing. We were watching the screen for a particular dish to come back on for me to ask what it was, so I could order it next time, before we left. This time around, I ordered a simple Chicken Quesadilla. Only one, for $8. 00 pulled chicken and cheese in a fairly oily tortilla. In spite of the grease, it was good all the same and I would return to try something else. My dad ordered a bean soup and he liked it. Love that this place is owned locally. Has great food! And has an ethnic, traditional and authentic vibe to it. Looking forward to my next visit!

I had been to Tenoch a few years back and eaten their massive eponymous torta, so I was excited to return for a second round. It's not quite as awe-inspiring as I remembered, unfortunately. There were three of us, so we figured we'd share two of the Tenoch Torta ("Shredded roast chipotle pork, ham, milanesa, egg, pastrami, weiner sausage," in addition to "telora bun filled with tomato, onion, beans, avocado, mayo and cheese"). It arrived about 20 minutes after we ordered it and it's certainly as intimidating as you would think, based on that insane list of ingredients. One bite, however, told me that I wasn't in for the taste explosion I had been anticipating. All the components are fine, really, but there's just no cohesion here. (Oh, and the bread didn't taste super fresh; its crustiness became a major problem the more I ate.) The sandwich tastes like someone threw a bunch of random ingredients into it with little thought towards tying everything together. I mean, I ate my half of one of the sandwiches, don't get me wrong. The various ingredients are all good, and I do enjoy the novelty of eating so many different kinds of meat at once. But was I dying to eat more after I was done? No, not really.

Came here randomly because I was craving Mexican food. Drove past this place many times before and always thought it looked kind of crappy from outside. I was so wrong. The first thing you'll notice walking in the door is how almost every single customer here is Mexican. If that isn't a good sign for a Mexican restaurant then I don't know what is. The hosts are very friendly and efficient. As we were eating to the traditional music playing in the background, the entire place started singing and it just made for such an amazing atmosphere!! Now, the food. Everything we ordered was very fairly priced, the portion sizes are enormous and the flavour and texture of everything is spot on. There really isn't much else to say. The place screams authenticity and you get an amazing meal, with a unique atmosphere and big portions at a very affordable price. I can't wait for my next visit!

This Mexican restaurant was pretty okay, but not amazing, or amazingly cheap. I would say it was just a bit better than average. I tried three items: 1. Guacamole and chips (small size) for $3: the guac was pretty good, but it lacked any flavour other than the avocados or salt. A true purist guacamole, the chips that accompanied were just the right amount of salt 2. Shrimp and cheese quesadilla ($8) when I ordered this I was expecting it to be regular sized shrimps, but the quesadilla was long and skinny, and a bit greasy. The shrimps were extremely tiny ones 3. Alambre taco (steak, ham, cheese and peppers): it was filled to the brim with toppings, but everything was so jumbled you didn't know what you were tasting I would also say, most of the other patrons spoke Spanish, and were served more often than me.

I have been eating Mexican food since the days of Chi-Chi's (1980s). I like to think my taste for authentic Mexican has been refined over the years. Tenoch is definitely on the authentic side of the equation and I appreciated that. We ordered three meals and all tasted distinctly different-which is a good thing and what we wanted. Simple but satisfying and definitely flavourful. The prices were reasonable and including a side salad with the burritos and enchiladas a nice touch. Will be returning before to long.

Good place for a proper sit down Mexican meal. Service is not fast, so be prepared to spend some time. Their dishes are traditional, and there's a wide assortment. Good place to bring a small group. I usually order a plate with various side dishes, and they come with tortillas on the side. They serve tamales too, and they're tasty. I usually order something with beef. Alambre is very good. This is one of the more established Mexican places in the city. Prices are reasonable.

Nice interior, upbeat music (Sat evening), a short walk from the Oakwood and St. Clair streetcar stop. Reasonablly priced, friendly staff and amazing (read proper Mexican with all the flavours and freshness) food !! Don't miss the Tres Leches. They do have complimentary chips and Salsa (the habenaro salsa was lit) I had the Veggie Enchilada (see pic), pretty good and very well presented (Those details make a difference). The Horchata felt a little watered down but tasted decent. My buddies had: (1) Tostadas (looked good but felt a little less by Qty) (2) the chicken salad (that looked amazing!!). The dessert was the highlight though, a nice twist on the Tres Leches with the coconut flakes on the top of the slice and the ice cream scoop on the side. Overall loved this place for the ambience and food. Would definitely go back again!

I've never seen so many Mexican people in one room in Toronto, which was a good sign from the get go. Their menu has authenticity up the wazoo, with some added fun favours like the *Muppet shot. The tacos, the quesadillas, the pambazo, the sauces and the beers are all exactly what you'd get at a casual restaurant in Mexico, and it's so. darn. delicious. I can't do it justice with descriptors, so I suggest you peep my pics and let your mouth water and then come on in and give it a try. If you have a big group, I recommend ordering family style, and be prepared for it to take a while. It's a small place with only a few employees and it's always packed, so it's not their fault, but it can be a little annoying when you're starving. *The Muppet Shot is tequila and 7up. They smash it on the bar for you and order you to chug. It's warm, weird and I will be serving them at my next party.

Pozoles, and a magnificent "chicharrón" quesadilla at the back

I go there every time I feel home sick... I spoil myself with some guacamole and totopos. Cry remembering my mom's cook with their pozole and a tecate. On weekends, I can't stop thinking on fixing my hangover with that tender barbacoa. And feel like home with every bite of those authentic cochinita tacos... On the other hand, my husband is a big eater, so he's put himself in the challenge of finishing the "Tenoch torta". He has succeeded, but with a food coma, followed by a "never again" (he has ordered it several times). Regular people would be satisfied with half of that specialty! One of the only things that could be a minus for the place is that you need to be patient, really patient. The place is run by few people that take their time to give the cooker enough space to accomplish the taste for the food to be "al dente". My advice for a partied Saturday: Call the place when you wake up and you feel your tongue is kind of sticking to your palate, order the barbacoa consome (mmmm), and depending how many of you are dealing with the same situation, order a 1/2 or a 1 k of barbacoa to go. You won't have to wait, just pay and get your hangover potion. Cheers and happy Holidays!!!

Looks pretty Mexican to me !

Being far from Mexico it is always difficult to find a place with the flavour, the variety, the service with the right balance of price and quantity. Tenoch is a restaurant that will be full with Mexicans enjoying what we could only have over there. Tacos al pastor, quesadillas, pambazos y tamales are very good. Our surprise was to find as a Saturday special beef tongue tacos! The right "sazon" accompanied with an excellent nopalitos salad (cactus). Bring your favourite Mexican friend and you won't be disappointed!

The inside was nice, it was dark with ambient lighting and decorated with a modern and Mexican theme. The waitress was super nice, and the staff were fairly attentive. We got the chips and guac to start. I do wish they gave a little bit more walk because it came in this really small cup so we had to go light on the guac to chip ratio. But overall the guac was yummy and the chips were very crunchy with a nice seasoning. They have a special every day of the week and Thursdays are there crunch tacos, which are hard shell tacos, wrapped in a soft shell taco with some sauce in between, and you can choose between their chorizo or chicken. We got one of each. I liked the chicken more but my partner liked the Chorizo. And all the toppings the perfect Fixin's. They only had three washroom stalls, which were gender neutral, and I thought they were relatively clean.

You enter the restaurant from a set of stairs outside and the restaurant doesn't look too appealing from outside. Also, the restaurant always seems busy and/or small, so it's always loud and service is slow. With the negatives out of the way, let me explain why I love La Carnita! The food is amazing! Their tacos are on point, and with so many to choose from I can go back multiple times can never get bored. Each of their tacos has something different to offer and each has relatively good balance to them. The balance of freshness and savory (and sometimes sweet) toppings is well done, making me come back for more. The one item that pushes La Carnita over the top is their nachos! Homemade nacho chips with gooey cheese and a generous amount of toppings makes them my favorite nachos in Toronto! One last observation is that the service is always friendly. They may be (very) slow at times but they seem like they always try their best and are always quite pleasant. Overall, I love La Carnita and when I get a craving for tacos and nachos, I'm heading straight here!

Hacienda is located on College Street, very close to Sneaky Dees, in a bit of a tucked away, inconspicuous location. The interior is fantastic and the atmosphere is authentic. There are a lot of reviews that knock this place for service, but that's not really the point of this restaurant. It's a family run place where the focus is food and soccer (when it's on) if you need something, you may need to call the serve over yourself, but that's no big deal cocerning the food. The tacos are the best I've had in the City. At three tacos for $12, it's hard to go wrong. After reading some of the previous reviews, the beef tongue was an obvious choice. I'm not too big in beef personallty, but the meat was so tender and almost melted. Next was the chorizo taco. It was fantastic. The chorizo wasn't overly salty like in a lot of other Mexican restaurants, which made a huge difference. The flavor was deep and rich, and paired perfectly with the salsa. Lastly was the carnitas. It's hard to make carnitas as good as Seven Lives, but wow, these were something else. The carnitas were tender, juicy, and perfectly crispy. The corn tortillas were also made in-house and were fresh and delocious. The servers also bring two sauces to the table - one salsa verde (green salsa) and one hot sauce. Both were great but be careful with the hot sauce, it's a heavy hitter! Pro tip: get a Mexican Coke, it's amazing! Hacienda is the best taco place is the City. Seven Lives is a close second, but Hacienda has them beat in terms of authenticity and flavor. Put this place on your go-to list, it will it dissapoint. 5/5
