Highly recommended authentic restaurant, so we went there for our first Stockholm dining experience; didn't know they had a Grill next door, too, but we ate at the main. Old school charm from the kind host who got us a main dining room table despite the otherwise completely packed house to the gracious man who checked our coats. Just got the feeling people who work there are not just good at their job, but simply nice people. Our server was so good, too - she checked in on us gracefully and answering alll our questions with expertise. Beef fillet á la Rydberg was my delicious entree. Crème brûlée terrific closing. Pripps Blå on draught perfect liquid complement. But the culinary highlight was the Toast Skagen apppetizer for 3 (you cannot have enough.) My wife and nephew enjoyed their meals as well. Quite tasty, amazing food! (Get the Apple Cake!) On my last night in Sweden I realized that I hadn't had any real Swedish meals. So I reached out to a good friend and she recommended a hand full of places that included Tennstopet! My meal consisted of the Steak Tartare starter, "Today's cut of reindeer" for my main, and the Apple cake for dessert and each complemented each-other perfectly! The tartare was fully loaded with trimmings and tasted great. The reindeer was perfectly cooked and pre-cut, not tough /AT ALL/. And the Apple cake, all I can say is that you HAVE to get the Apple Cake when visiting! The texture is great and the flavor is amazing! Looking forward to visiting again! read more

We had a fantastic dinner experience at Tennstopet! We had a reservation at 4:30pm and were seated at the best table in the beautiful dining room. The personnel were all very friendly and helpful throughout the evening, and also made good recommendations. We had a nice Kava for aperitif, and the shared the herring and strämming; for us Swedes now living in the US this was like heaven! So good. I also had the house snaps, which was equally great. For main course we had the Wallenbergare and today's special, Rapphöna. This was all Swedish meals at its best. We finished with the chocolate terrine with cloudberry liqueur. Love trying clearly-classic places like this; you can just feel it entering the establishment. I sat in the bar area for lunch (with no reservation, but they serve the full menu). You should note the coat check (much written about) which doesn't seem optional, is not complimentary though there is nothing indicating such. Perhaps this is customary in the area, but other restaurants I visited in Stockholm/Scandinavia had coat racks by the entry to hang your coat and/or coat checks that were free of charge; this one is a couple USD so hang onto your coat if you'd like. We were wandering around Stockholm, decided that was the night for a classic Swedish dinner, and bumped into Tennstopet by luck and happenstance. I can get sucked into analysis paralysis, particularly in a foreign country where I may not recognize everything on the menu, but thankfully my partner encouraged me to give something unfamiliar a go and I am so glad I did. I ordered the Wallenbergare and it was excellent. Super tender veal in a light and crispy breading crust, nutty, perfectly salty brown butter sauce that felt rich and (somehow) not greasy, and green peas that are not mentioned on the menu but brought essential freshness that rounded out the dish AND created a little platform to keep the breading from sitting directly in the butter sauce. We also ordered a Swedish cheesecake which was delicious. Softer and less sweet than American cheesecake with a pronounced almond flavor. We left Tennstopet very happy. read more

Classic Swedish food in an equally classic old-school cafe with sidewalk seating. Nice place to eat heavy food outdoors on a nice-ish day. I had the blood pudding, which was delicious albeit too sweet and rich for my taste (maybe that's my own issue). The acidic lingonberries were essential to cut through! My dining companion had the meatballs, which are of course the classic we Americans all expect in Sweden, I tried one and it was excellent, as was the brown sauce with it. Pickled cucumbers were sweet for my taste. We were both too full to have dessert. This is heavy winter food. read more

As a shitty drunken traveler that prefers to spend frugally, this place is still worth a visit. My partner and I say at the bar and split the meatballs (comes with puréed potato, lingonberries and vinegar cucumbers) and each got a .6L beer. It came with a complimentary bread spread of rye crisps and wheat loaf slices with good butter. Our tab was 320 for full tummies and a light buzz (supplemented by tall cans of Carlsburg in the park beforehand). Good vibes, wonderful meal, a really beautiful environment without being pretentious and they didn't try to rush us out after we finished. There's also a dart board in the back. 3.5-4 stars. Very good food, but the ambiance was a bit weird. Maybe it's because it was the summer, so it was mainly tourists? Not sure. But something was off. Anyway, again, the food was very very good. For the starter, we got the herring platter (sillbricka) with 6 different kinds of herring. It was the first time I've had fish this way, and it was different and quite delicious. The sambo got the lax, which he said was the best he's ever had. I got a different fish dish with a cream sauce and chanterelles--also perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Definitely eat the fish dishes here, it was all quite good, with hefty servings of potatoes for each person. Slightly pricey, but seems a bit cheaper than Tranan. read more

This is a very good place for dinner in Stockholm Odenplan. We went during dinner hours and they didn't have a table for us so they sat us at the bar for no waiting time. This interior decor was nice and it was supposed to be traditional swedish food. I had the chefs starter and the barman special and it was very good. The servers had that tough attitude which was very funny. Would highly recommend. read more

This is an absolutely beautiful old school restaurant where artists used to hang out in days gone by. The service is very friendly and the food is delicious, the best I've had in Stockholm. The reindeer dish and herring tasting platter are highly recommended. I really especially appreciated the old-fashioned Germanic bohemian charm of this place, it was very special. We arrived a bit late, around 2.30 PM and there was only one spot for 5 people, unfortunately it was a bit cold since the table was next to a backdoor. I recommend booking earlier and asking for a good table spot. When it comes to the meal itself, I have to say that the bread with the butter was really good. After that we ordered the main dishes directly. I recommend eating the wallenbergare, typical dish accompanied with an amazing potato purée and lingon berries. This was not my best meal in Stockholm but I am rating this restaurant for what it aims to be, which is traditional Swedish. For that it gets a five. A few notes on my food- no complaints just FYI: -pancakes and roe ... the roe were very small and mild. For me, I could hardly taste it. But others would call this delicate and that would be a good thing. -SOS was really good, but you might be able to recreate the same thing from the breakfast buffet at your hotel. It is pickled herring and cheese, with some extra pickles thrown in for good measure. The butter is on the table already. Of course, it was far better than the herring and pickles I had at my hotel for breakfast this morning. But the concept was the same. Your choice. -I got the fried pork and onion sauce, based on the strong recommendation of the head chef at a Michelin rated restaurant. The fried pork is basically thick cut bacon. It's good bacon, but that's all. The onion sauce is exceptionally good. It was very good, just different than what I expected. Just a heads up, so you know what you're getting. -The chocolate cake was outstanding, one of the best chocolate cakes I've had ever in my life. I might go back just for this alone. Overall, I had a very good experience at this restaurant. Things were a little different than I expected, but no real complaints. read more
