A fallen tree damaged our attic and caused additional significant structural issues. Based on excellent Google and Yelp reviews, I contacted Tenhulzen, and I'm so glad I did. Their expertise and professionalism turned a stressful situation into a positive experience. Throughout the repair and rebuild process, Tenhulzen acted as the central hub, coordinating with a whole team of subcontractors. Roofers, HVAC technicians, gutter specialists - they ensured everyone worked together smoothly and on time. I had to go through insurance for the repair and rebuild, and Tenhulzen's help was invaluable here as well. They helped with the paperwork and communications, providing a detailed list of all the work that was done to the satisfaction of my claims adjustor. Whenever I had a question or concern, the team at Tenhulzen was incredibly responsive and always happy to explain things in detail. Their experience shone through - they had a clear plan for the project and addressed any unexpected issues (for example, the leak in my main bathroom which was only discovered later in the project) calmly and confidently. We contacted Tenhulzen in the beginning of December 2020. We called, gave our information and what we were interested in and Riley followed up with us very quickly for an appointment for him to come to our home for a walk through and estimate. Riley came out on December 12th. He was very friendly, wore a mask for the entire visit and was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us a great deal by listening to what we were considering and offered suggestions based on his expertise. The walk through was so great and we were really excited to book with Tenhulzen for our painting and remodel based on this visit. Unfortunately, we would never get to actually book Tenhulzen. Upon leaving, Riley let us know that they should have a full estimate ready for us by midweek to the end of the following week (our walk through was on a Saturday). He did let us know that while he would have his portion of the estimate ready as soon as possible, that the construction side of the estimate might take a little longer because they had several projects they were trying to finish before the holidays and it would be the owner Scott who would be doing that part of the estimate. We said we absolutely understood. He recommended checking back in if we haven't heard in a week or so. By December 21st, we hadn't heard anything so we sent a friendly email asking if they had an idea of when the estimate might be ready. At this point we had estimates from a few other companies but really wanted to work with Tenhulzen. We received a response from the owner Scott the same day that read: "We are working on your quote and expect to have something to send over to you soon. I anticipate, based on how it is shaking out so far, that we are probably going to be around the $50-$70K mark. Trying to wrap it up prior to the holiday for you, however there is a lot we are pushing on to get projects wrapped up for people for their Christmas holiday so please bear with us." We were pretty surprised by this estimate as Riley had given us his best "guestimate" during our walk through and it was nowhere near $50-70k. Even so, we had told Riley about some dreams we had for our home in the future including a bar in the basement so we figured some of those projects might have been included on the estimate. We were really looking forward to getting the breakdown and details so we could get started as soon as possible. Unfortunately, that was it. We never heard from them again! We are so incredibly disappointed because the walk through with Riley was so positive and we really wanted Tenhulzen to do the work on our home. Apparently we weren't worth their time as it is now March 2021 and December 21, 2020 was the last time we ever heard from them. The lack of follow up is so incredibly unprofessional and frustrating. This is an unusual review as I did not hire Tenhulzen. However, I do think their EXCELLENT customer service and quote process deserves a positive review. I have no doubt their painting would be just as excellent. I contacted Tenhulzen online and heard back the same day from Roland. We scheduled an appointment for the next day and he was by far the most professional individual we met with for quotes. Roland was very thorough, answered my many questions (I've never had a house exterior painted before) and made me feel more at ease with the whole process. The quote arrived on time and very thoroughly explained every aspect of work. The online system was also something we didn't see from anyone else. The pricing was the highest of the three quotes we got but only by a few hundred dollars. The only reason I did not hire Tenhulzen for our job was because of their timing. We would have been scheduled out in July for our job when another company we liked with a very similar quote could do it in May. While timing was not our first priority, in the end it tipped the scales just a bit to the other company. I would absolutely contact Tenhulzen again for a painting job, no question. read more

Needing siding, I asked a carpenter friend for recommendations. Tenhulzen was at the top of his list. So they re-sided our old house, working through difficult window issues, then repainted house and garage. Perfect. Because of their great work, a year later (this spring) we hired them to remodel our entire kitchen, nook, and rear entry hall, refloor the entire main floor, demo some old add-on stuff and install new can lighting throughout the house. And paint the whole interior. The project lead they assigned us, Rodney, worked with us efficiently, even as we expanded the scope of work - even with about 40% more work added on the fly, they finished ahead of schedule. Rodney is a master carpenter, knowledgeable about all aspects of construction, and detail-oriented, as is the owner of the company, Scott, and all the other employees and the trade subs. Rodney worked difficult aspects of remodeling an old house, meshing old with new, with attention, skill, and patience. This is a high quality operation. We just finished, and we couldn't be happier. While no remodel is "fun," they worked with us, and our cats (thanks, Rodney!) to make it as stress free as possible, even while we lived in the house during the major remodel. They were upfront about costs and worked with us to do a remodel we could afford, even as we added on more pieces. They aren't cheap, but the quality of their work is exceptional and so they are a bargain. We will certainly use Tenhulzen for further work, and highly recommend them. It also involved painting, refinishing the whole floor to match the repair area and new floor moulding. It was very apparent during the onsite quote that Tenhulzen was in a different league. We contacted Tenhulzen Painting and Construction based on a recommendation from our roofer. On the initial visit Scott showed a good understanding of what we wanted and gave great feedback on our projects. The project manager Richard contacted us about 2 months after we signed to get us scheduled. Once the work started, Richard sent daily email updates with pictures on the work progress. Very pleased with Richard and his crew. Halfway through the job we did have a slight disagreement on the scope of work that was to be done. Scott reached out to clarify their view of what the scope of work was and I responded to clarify my understanding of the scope of work and then asked a number of follow up questions. The next day, Richard sent me an email answering all my questions about the job in progress and provided excellent clarification. Scott then reached out shortly thereafter and agreed to expand the scope of work, but did also take the time to explain why this particular aspect is normally quoted separately. I was very impressed that Scott added to the scope of work above what he had estimated in order to make sure the customer was satisfied. Certainly one of the better experiences I have had with a contractor. The job was completed on time and I was highly satisfied with the end results. Tenhulzen is probably not the lowest bid you will get. We did receive lower bids for the job but decided to go with Tenhulzen based on the roofer's recommendation and our impression of Scott during the initial walkthrough. And we are very glad we did. This is a case where you get what you pay for. They are definitely on my short list for the painting scope of the work as well because I believe that they have an attention to detail that is lacking with contractors that may come in with a lower price. Don't waste your time calling other places! Hire Tenhulzen Painting! Scott Tenhulzen was prompt in getting back to me, courteous and thorough when he came to do the bid. I had another painter bid the job as well, four rooms--bathroom, bedroom, master bath, master bedroom. I initially went with the other guy because he was a little bit cheaper (within $50 including paint cost) and he was recommended by a friend. Other guy had told me he could do it Wednesday or Thursday of that week. However, by the time I'd bought the paint (which was what the other guy wanted me to do--Tenhulzen provides paint at reasonable cost), the guy said he couldn't do it until the following week, and for a variety of reasons, I wanted it done by the weekend. So I called Scott Tenhulzen back on a Wednesday and asked if he could work me in on Friday. He said they could! But they might have to finish up on Saturday--no problem for me. The crew arrived Friday morning and got to work. Scott came with them to make sure they knew what to do, then his crew supervisor Jorge and two other painters got on the job. They worked fast, kept my house clean, and they were very quiet. In the afternoon, another painter joined them and they finished all four rooms by the end of the day Friday. Their work is excellent. Clean lines (which I could never do on my own) and beautiful coverage. I am so happy with the way my rooms look now, and because they finished by the weekend, I was able to get my dad's help hanging shelving and towel bars in the newly painted rooms. The only thing that was negative was they did break one light fixture in the bathroom. Because the same one wasn't still being sold, I bought a new one, probably more expensive than the one that had broken (but it was the cheapest they had at Lowe's with the same number of lights), and Tenhulzen Painting promptly reimbursed me for 50% of the price. This resolved that matter to my satisfaction--I couldn't expect them to buy the whole $90 fixture when it was nicer than the one that had broken. The three guys from Tenhulzen literally left an hour ago, and now that all the touch-up patches have dried, my husband and I could not be happier with the job they did in our front room. Our room, which has a double-high, sloped ceiling, odd architectural insets and outcroppings, and two staircases up to the loft-like overlook from the second floor, required a ton of work by these guys to cut in, tape, pull screws and bolts from the previous owner, and paint the horrid, ugly, 2000-contemporary "fall" yellow color scheme that she thought was so beautiful. Two coats, three colors, one day, and they were out by dinnertime. We can't find a single splatter anywhere on our cherrywood floors (and believe you me, I did look for them). The ceiling cutting is beautiful and straight as it comes -- all done by hand, also, and masterfully so. The three painters Scott sent us were kind and courteous, paid special attention to the prep work required before putting up a new color, and when they left, my husband and I still have only found one, tiny flaw - a drop of blue paint on our banister, which we intend to paint with a new coat of white anyway, so hardly a deal breaker. Scott himself was awesome when he came over to give us a true quote, worked with our budget and made some suggestions that really turned out well. He was willing to negotiate and was very flexible when I changed some of the inset work I wanted done last minute. He talked to us like we were real people, not just a number on an invoice. Best of all, he said, "Whatever the cost, I want to make sure it's done right" when we were talking about the other bids that we'd received. He seemed unconcerned that we were just painting our front room and not an entire office building, and I was surprised by how genuinely human and personable he was. Would I recommend Tenhulzen? Absolutely. Every time. We have another big job in the kitchen and are already talking about potentially having them come back out to tackle the sand-textured mess the previous owner left us. These guys are amazing! My family room was damaged by a cat urinating on the carpet and base board. Its really tough to get pet odors out of woodworking and sub flooring, but they did it. Rodney knew just the right products to use to get rid of the odors permanently so our other pets would not be attracted to those areas. I had the wood working all replaced and the sub floor treated, and then painted the room. The crew was on time, courteous, respectful, and cleaned up daily. The work was meticulous! After that project was completed I had Scott give us a bid for our exterior painting which was completed just last week. I did not like the paint color initially approved by my HOA but Francisco was able to have the paint color adjusted saving me a lot of money and keeping everyone happy. I was absolutely thrilled with the job Tenhulzen Painting did with our new wood French doors. The owner even stopped by my house with stain samples when I was having trouble finding enough time to get to the stain store to pick out my shade. The men who came to my house were very professional and SO meticulous. They sanded, stained, sanded, stained, and sanded again before doing multiple coats of a marine-grade finish to protect our beautiful doors.
