Highly recommend this pediatrician. I've brought both of my children there since they were born. They get you in quickly for either well visits or sick visits. There is a network so if you need to go on the weekend, you can go to another location nearby in Jersey. The doctors are lovely and very helpful. Would recommend. read more

Horror story. My daughter was a 22 week preemie born in 2000. She weighed 1 pound 3 ounces, was on oxygen for 3 years, and survived, thanks to a great neonneonatal and preemie team with Doctors (Manginello, Grazzi, Giuliano, Jeshion, Duncan, Onyeije, Velchec, Benson), and the host of NICU nursing, pulmonary and radiology supportat at Lenox Hill Hospital & Valley Hospital she is alive and thriving today. However, once under the care of Tenafly Pediatrics, she started having migraines. Eventually I found out that the migraines were a symptom of a slow growing congenital brain tumor. My daughter was frequently seen by Dr. Sugarman of Tenafly Pediatrics, yet neither of us were taken seriously about the smptoms which progressed through her early teen years. She suffered from vomiting, nausea, dizziness while walking, and hyper stimulation with agitation in sunlight or strong artificial light. Dr. Sugarman finally referred her to a neurologist, Dr. Heilbronerer. Over time both doctors began treating me with disdain and increasing frustration: the last time we saw Dr. Sugarmam, she scoffed at me and chastised me about telling my daughter to cover up as we went out into the winter weather because I mentioned it was "phenumonia weather". I was shocked and insulted by her ignorance in taking my statement so literally. For the first time, I allowed myself to question her character, if she was racist and/ or classist, or assumed her Harvard BA out ranked me, but I have an MA from Stanford...which she probably did not know. Noerheless I followed up on the referral to Dr. Heilbroner (the neurologist referred by Dr. Sugarman Tenafly Pediatrics), and he REFUSED to see my daughter who arrived to her appointment in pain and distress, and in spite of the fact that I had a note from the school nurse stating she needed to be seen ASAP due to excessive vomiting of clear liquid in school. At the time, my husband and I were divorcing. Doctor Heilbronner refused to examine my daughter because, as he stated, her father told him not to. I left the office feeling like someone had aimed a shotgun at my daughter's temple. Over time, her symptoms worsened and became more frequent. An audiologist finally recommended that I immediately take her to Hackensack ER if the symptoms worsened. I did, and Her tumor was quickly diagnosed as a Clival Chirdoma, and It had to be removed ASAP. Because it was rare, the surgical team searched for a specialist who had removed this type of tumor. While in ER, I was called by a neurologist at NYU who questioned me as to "why" I refused Dr. Sugarmam's referral to take my daughter to NYU. I explained to the NYU doctor that I had absolutely NO idea of a referral being made by Dr. Sugarman. Furthermore, my daughter could not be moved as she was being prepped for emergency surgery. There was a pause of silence on the phone, then that compassionate doctor apologized to me. He apologized for, "bothering" me, and said they (NYU Neurology) had no idea that Clival Chordoma was her diagnosis, and NYU did not specialize in removing this tumor. He asked my pardon, and wished all the best in her surgery. Dr. Sugarman never returned to the hospital to talk with me about my daughter. Fortunately, the tumor was removed by a great team of specialists from Hackensack and Morrtistown: Doctors Kaptin, Thompson, Mazzola and Benson removed the tumor in its entirety. Four years later, when my daughter was 16 and I fully engaged in helping her survive this tumor while working full-time, her dad gained full custody, based on false claims that I had Munchsusens by procxy, and that it was I who was making our daughter ill. In spite of my daughter having had a congenital brain tumor removed, Dr. Sugarman almost immediately fed life into the accusations against me in order to cover her medical neglect of my daughter's health condition. She went as far to try to brain wash my daughter by calling her and telling her, "Your Mother was bad to you." I was with my daughter, with the phone on speaker. Hearing Dr. Sugarman say this was horrifying, shocking, and devastaing. It was clear that she did this to cover up for having missed the signs of the tumor. Dr. Sugarman took advantage of her position as a physician in order to hide the 13 years I had reported my daughter's tumor symptoms to her. It has been 10 years since the tumor was removed, and we are both still healing from the psychological pain and devastation caused by Dr. Sugarman. Assigned blame is one of the greatest pains that any parent could experience. Dr. Sugarman used the court to hide her mistake, having missed the signs of a growing tumor in my daughter's brain. I could not prepare for court and had no money to pay lawyers. What I did have was God, the determination to help her heal, and the strength to stand up for her medical rights against a doctor who falsely assigned blame to me to cover her misdiagnoses. read more

Our son was 3 1/2 weeks only and started having massive spit up issues for a couple days to the point that he was spitting up brownish-red bile so we brought him in. He had lost 11 ounces in 3 days and Doctor 1 said "I don't even have to examine him, I know it's reflux" and told us to start feeding him AR fomula & prescribed Pepcid for pain and to call in a week if he hadn't gained weight. As FTPs we trusted him & switched formulas. The spit up seemed to get better due to the AR being heavier, but he was still experiencing huge spit ups multiple times a day and after a week had not gained weight. At that point we brought him back and saw Doctor 2. She told us to try feeding him upright, burp more frequently, and wake him up every 3 hours to feed. We insisted that we were doing those things but she sent us on our way and said if he still hadn't gained weight in a week to come back in. We went home frustrated after again being told it was our fault and that we were not feeding him correctly despite doing literally everything in our power to try to get him to keep food down. We came back a week later after still no weight gain and were told to fortify his formula. She also suggested that we may simply be mixing his formula wrong if we were using something like a Baby Brezza mixer. We fortified the formula for a day and he screamed in pain after each feeding. We decided to try on our own a hypoallergenic formula at which point he forcefully vomited everything. We took him to the ER and within 10 minutes he was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis and had surgery to correct it within 24 hours. We are beyond disgusted that Tenafly Pediatrics and two different doctors let our son suffer & starve for 3 weeks and gaslit us into believing that we were at fault for feeding him incorrectly. A simple ultrasound would have shown that he had pyloric stenosis and based on his symptoms it was very obvious. The generalist doctor in the ER was able to diagnosis him immediately. TLDR; Tenafly Peds ignored major red flags and missed a simple diagnosis. The result was that our newborn lost weight and was malnourished for three weeks. If your child is healthy the practice is probably fine, but beware if your child needs any extra attention. read more

We have been coming here since our 2 month appointment (first baby) and we love Dr S. She's thorough and patient and kind. We also love Erika, the nurse who administered Phoebes shots today. She saw her getting upset so when she took the oral solution she injected it on the side of the mouth while she used her pacifier. It was so gentle and sweet and meant a lot to us. This review is for Dr Vemula. I had been taking my 4YO daughter to Dr Vemula for about 2 years when we were in for a routine physical. After checking height and weight, she lowered her voice and said "well, I'm not going to use CERTAIN WORDS but she does have high BMI so I think you need to make some big dietary changes or it will get worse." Mind you--my daughter has a rare skeletal muscle condition where she has above average muscle tone, especially for a child her age. There was barely any fat on her. Dr Vemula's clear lack of experience and bedside manner really came through that day. She took literally no time to understand the disease and instead went the angle of mom-shaming and insulting my child. We immediately changed to Dr Smith and haven't seen her since. Awful doctor. Could not recommend Dr. Kristina Shenk more! She is truly 1 in a million. No matter how busy the office is that day, she takes time to explain everything, listen to everything, answer questions, etc. She always makes sure to warm my daughter up to things (showing her the medical tools etc) before examining her, so that she is comfortable. She has the perfect blend of expertise and bedside manner. Very thankful to have her as our pediatrician. read more

My wife recently had a baby. She was in touch with Tenafly in advance about how to set up pediatric care. They said to call the day the baby was born to set up an appointment, which they would prioritize. After waiting on hold for 20 minutes (spoke to someone for 5 second during the wait) and then getting hung up on, we decided to go with riverside medical. AWFUL QUALITY OF CARE. Growing up, I was a Tenafly patient so naturally when I had my son and saw a new office opened in Hoboken, it was an easy decision to go there. I couldn't have been more wrong in my decision. Doctors spend 5 minutes with you, asking if you have any questions. When you ask, they give very generic responses (what you can find on the internet) and they seem unsure of their answers as they're giving it. Would NEVER want to experience having my child under their care, in the event he was sick. read more

Dr. Shenk has been our daughter's doctor from her very first visit outside of the hospital, but we have had visits with about 4 other doctors from Tenafly and 2 others from this location. While our experiences among all the doctors at Tenafly have been great, Dr. Shenk has been exceptional. In addition to the comfort and ease she has with our daughter, she caught an early heart murmur, has always been responsive through the virtual portal and following up with us directly, and is always been willing to talk us through our questions and concerns as silly as they can sometimes be as first time parents, with patience and grace. (Additionally, echoing others, when we had some scares, she's always been very calming and reassuring.) Additionally the front office staff and nurses are great! We never have any issues with our paperwork or getting an appointment, but more importantly they always put us all at ease and make us feel at home. Extremely disappointed in Tenafly Pediatrics- Hoboken. It appears they care more about the quantity of patients they receive rather than the quality of care they provide. Our 4 month old son came down with a stomach virus and has had it for the past 5 days. Over the past 5 days, we have not received any direction or instruction over what to do. We've been bringing him in & out of urgent cares and hospitals, as we were extremely nervous about dehydration. Not one doctor at Tenafly Pediatrics followed-up after my son was supposed to get an IV at a hospital - that speaks volumes and has caused us to transfer. They also didn't provide any paperwork on what to do with a stomach virus, feeding schedule, how stomach viruses occur, etc (we received this at another pediatrician's office which made me realize we were not in good care). Completely unacceptable as a pediatrician. While the doctors are nice, they seem inept at their job. They lack confidence in providing direction or clear medical advice, and usually appear very lackadaisical. They do the bare minimum-  a lot of "If you want" "You can if you like", taking temperature and weight (which I can do at home), and that's basically it. The reason we go to you is to get concrete and solid knowledge. read more

We have brought our baby to Dr Shenk at Tenafly Pediatrics since birth (she's now 7 months). We're new parents and naturally have lots of questions and tend to be on the nervous side where our daughter is concerned. We love Dr Shenk and so does our baby! She is very intelligent and kind. Her advice is conservative without being alarmist, but she is very reassuring and calming. I appreciate that she always takes the time to call us back when we have questions. The whole staff is wonderful at the Hoboken office - receptionists, nurses, etc are all very friendly and pleasant. We've never had trouble getting an appointment. Tenafly Pediatrics in general has been great. They have weekend hours in the other offices if you need a visit. We've seen several of their doctors, all of whom we liked. Many times we have called with a question and had a nurse call us back with advice without needing to go in. This office was recommended to me as a new mom, and I would definitely recommend to anyone! read more

I was disappointed with my experience here and left the practice after about 7 months. I started with Dr. Shenk, who is very nice but rarely offered any helpful advice--I'm not sure if it's because she's inexperienced or because she is nervous to make actual judgment calls. I also found her knowledge around breastfeeding limited. Then we switched to Dr. Smith, who is more experienced and provides more helpful feedback and opinions. Unfortunately, I found his bedside manner to be condescending and dismissive. I felt like I wasn't being taken seriously. Also, I don't get the sense that Dr. Smith actually likes babies, which is bizarre. He never said hi to or smiled at my baby, and seemed annoyed when she wouldn't hold still for exams. It's really too bad because this office has such potential to be a great practice--it's clean, new, part of a well-known network, easy to make appointments, usually not a bad wait, nice reception staff. But at the end of the day, I just didn't feel comfortable taking my child here. read more

After each checkup I am confident my baby is in good hands with him. Furthermore we've never experienced a long wait when arriving for an appointment and the nurses are also fantastic. I have been bringing my boys to this practice for 5 years and they have been wonderful! The staff at Tenafly are always accommodating and very helpful. The doctors are amazing and trustworthy. Love the walk in hours, and love that they are available 7 days a week. I have met with many of the doctors at this practice and have never had any concerns with my children's diagnosis'. Friendly office and staff, but Dr. Shenk never washes her hands before examining my baby. My son went in for his 6 month check-up and Dr. Shenk only rubbed a small amount of hand sanitizer on her hands before examining my son. During the examination she put her bare finger, with long nails, in my son's mouth to examine his gums. I literally froze in shock. The nurses also never wash their hands or wear gloves when administering shots, despite a sign that is posted above the sink in each exam room that says "Have you washed your hands?" As an infection control practitioner I blame myself for not insisting that Dr. Shenk or her staff wash their hands before examining my son. For those parents out there, please be observant and insist that each doctor/nurse wash their hands before examining your child! read more

There are several different offices and they have hours on the weekend which make it convenient if you need your child to be seen on the weekend. Nina has been very courteous, and very comforting during office visits as well as other staff members. Even when calling the office, Jenn has been very pleasant to deal with. My son has been a patient of Tenafly Pediatrics since he was born and I would NEVER bring my son to another pediatrician. We have one pediatrician in particular, Dr. Smith, who he sees regularly. Dr. Smith is amazing BTW. In the event, that my son has been sick and we've needed to bring him in for an emergency visit, he has seen several other pediatricians within the practice and they have ALL been WONDERFUL!!!! We make it a point to be there ahead of scheduled time to respect the staff's time and schedule and every time we are seen on or ahead of our scheduled time. Everyone who works there, no matter their title, has been nothing but professional, courteous, and kind. I have recommended Tenafly Pediatrics to everyone I know that has children or is expecting. read more
