No candidate should wait 6 months for a call back, a month or two tops, they are too defensive and too apprehensive. They are consciously testing you to see where you stand on the totem pole. The more you professionally you follow up with these 2, the more resentful they become; that's self control for you. They are fairly easy to figure out-less than 2 weeks. They are no more try hard then I ever had to be. Don't make yourself needy or clingy to these one's in 2017. read more

My experience with Temporary Alternatives was really good. They forwarded my resume to a bunch of positions and found me a job very quickly. If you make sure to put all your skills on your resumé and really work with them, I think you'll have a lot of luck. They were very personable and hardworking. Yesterday, I found myself at this temp agency knowing that more than likely a job opportunity would not come to me overnight, due to the job market becoming more like an "employer's market". I was a little nervous when I took the tests and waited patiently to see Regis. Once I met with him, I instantly felt comfortable. He told me that since I already had a few years of experience under my belt in a certain job field, they should able to get me an interview in no time. All I would have to do is call tomorrow morning and check to see if anything is available. I took his advice thinking that it was almost too good to be true. So today I called 9am SHARP and I spoke to Phil, since Regis had not yet arrived in the office and sure enough, they had already submitted my resume for a company and I have an interview this Friday!!! I had a very good first impression and was very happy to have had not one but two interviews within the first week of signing up with them; however, after three HORRIBLE experiences I decided to sign off. When I called to express my dissatisfaction, Phil kept repeating that he has nothing to the with Regis and he did everything well... claiming no responsibility, talking over me and finally hanging up on me! Here are the three experiences 1. The pay was much lower than I'd expected but I decided to take a temp job I was offered since it was in an industry I'm interested in. Regis also told me that I'd have one weekday off so I can search and interview for my permanent job. On the very first day of being on the job I found out that there is no way of having a week day off as the only other person in the office is usually out and I'd HAVE to be physically present in the office. I called Regis to communicate this and to my surprise his tone had changed from a motivational one to one that was underselling me, on the claim that I had nothing better going. I felt like I was dealing with one of those mean brokers annoyed that they're lies aren't working and the sale is not being finalized. What was also a red flag was that he told me I should still go in and deal with it when I have an interview... I thought this lacked integrity to their client. 2. Regis told me about an opportunity that I went completely out of my way to interview for and the salary was not communicated clearly so I asked him to see a commission structure. He claimed the client never got back to him and it's been over a month now that he has to get back to me about said commission. 3. Finally, Phil had sent me to interview for a permanent job and all had gone very well. I went on two interviews but they ended up going with someone who's previously worked with them. A few weeks later Phil called to tell me that the person had lied on their resume and if I was still available.. However, he ended up sending addition people to the company and while he claims that was at that company's request, I don't think TempAlt is committed to helping you. They are interested in their money and that is all - My conclusion after three very negative experiences. The star goes to paying you quickly and they are nice when they want to be. I've been registered with Temp Alt for over 4 years. I haven't even gotten as much as an interview. Having tremendous skills but lacking stable work due to the downturn in the market. It has been very frustrating finding work. I was so excited to meet Regis he is friendly, competent and always responsive. The only downer is I've never gotten placement. As much as I like Regis, he's a great guy. I'd give more stars if I had a better experience. But who knows, the market is finally changing and I may finally get a shot at a job. Regis and Phil are the Godfathers of temping. I've been around long enough for the sidewalk to crack and seen just about everything. I googled top temp agencies in New York City, Temporary Alternatives being one of them and in my experience are way above the top on that list. They had a different job for me weekly sometimes even a couple of times per week!! I did my due diligence took the required tests and called in every day as they highly recommend and it paid off! Before I discovered these two, I was experimenting with OTHER agencies who merely speak of the promise land, waste a lot of your time and even pestered references (which are quite stellar) but as soon as you walk out that door you hear birds chirping .. Don't waste your time elsewhere. If you want work NOW then enter those doors take the tests, call a couple days a week and you'll be set . read more

Note that due to its name, most "offerings" are temp work. They advise you to call every day to check up on positions. The pay is low, was told that around 16-19 and i was earning that in my internships before i graduated college, which shows that they take a huge cut in your paycheck. This might be fine for someone who just needs some quick cash for a 1 day job but if you're looking for something longer and you have a college degree or higher, than probably not. I read the fine print they make you sign. i highly advise you to do this (located in their timesheet) As be aware that if you do take a temp job, they make you sign in a sense that you CANNOT be hired by the actual employer for a year. If they do hire you, the employer has the be willing to break the contract and pay a hefty fee, your salary + 25% fee. This is pretty common with staffing agencies, especially temporarily ones so keep this in mind. At this rate, hiring externally is cheaper but not impossible, which is what the owner is referring to in the comments on this post. There are also other comments you should read about your pay that you should know before committing just so that you aren't surprised. The receptionist is a rude lady who visibly shows that she hates her job. Poor customer service and unwelcomed feeling wanted me to leave the place, especially since I wanted to find a direct hire/ temp to perm position. However, I decided to give it a try despite her condescending attitude. She makes you fill out a bunch of paperwork, in which includes a note that states "if you are looking for temp to perm or direct hire, ignore the next few pages" (next pages are tax forms). She tells me to fill it out anyways even though i told her that i did not want temp work, however she took my resume. right when i sat down, i heard her ripping paper. it made me think that it was my resume that she tore up, although i couldn't confirm and giving her the benefit of the doubt. prior to coming into office, i emailed my resume. apparently, the office had been talking about me because i handed in the forms to the receptionist and the receptionist and along with another lady (co worker) were gossiping in front of everyone. the lady mentioned that she recognized my name (I knew it was me because it was something very specific about me). My experience with the receptionist was a huge turn off. poor customer service, co workers gossiping about candidates, unfriendly demeanor wanted me to avoid this place. after all, your receptionist is the first person in contact when you walk in and makes a huge difference when it comes to the experience. didnt like my first impression. Also, make sure you glassdoor some of the companies they send you off to. luckily i did and avoid a very sketchy company with a 2 star rating in which an employee was sent a sexual video from his boss and many other uncomfortable comments that a business should not be doing. Not sure if a background check is even done with clients but luckily i was able to read about this client on glassdoor. Now, everyone's experience at a company might be different but this shouldnt be happening to anyone. read more

I've used this agency for a few months now. Their system it not bad. I got my first interview the day after computer tests. My biggest complaint is payroll. They have missed many of hours in my pay check resulting in back pay (and late payments of my bills!) They somehow lost my voided checks for direct deposit more than I can count. Watch your bank accounts if you decide to enroll with that method of payment with them. And the payroll lady seemed to hate her life, careful when approaching... read more

I only actually worked through this agency a couple times -- and it was awhile ago -- but this is partly because I'm registered with so many different places and other opportunities have come up first. Got a reply email that clearly wasn't meant for me and referenced something or someone else who was asking a question. Then the guy tried to cover it up by saying "oh, that's our standard response, you need to come in and fill out paperwork". Methinks not. If I write you an inquiry for temp work and send you my resume, then you don't reply talking about something totally unrelated. It was clear that this agency doesn't dot its' i's and cross its t's and it certainly doesn't admit to making a mistake and then try to argue. Very sloppy first impression. If you're looking for work I highly recommend this company. I went in thinking that I wouldn't be placed for a few weeks... I was wrong! Within a few minutes Mr. Canning and his associates got me an interview! What a shocker considering I had called 4 other agencies and they all told me it would be WEEKS before they could even interview me. I'm happy to say that I was placed in an awesome company in a great position that highlights my love for people and everyday interactions. All I really wanted was a chance to prove myself and thanks to the speedy response and attentiveness of the staff here I was able to start my journey. It's quite entertaining when you wait outside the office and listen their funny conversations. In order to make Temp Alt work for you, you must follow their instructions: - Show up at their office at least 2 times a week by 8:30 am. This is for emergency day-of placement and to show that you are serious about getting a job - Call twice a day, once at 8:30/9:00am and 4:00pm. In the weeks before I moved to the city, I had sent my resume to four or five huge temp agencies. I never heard back from any of them, so I dug a little deeper online and found Temporary Alternatives. I went to their offices in person on a Friday to take my proficiency tests and interview with Regis and Phil. By the following Wednesday, I had a well-paying, long-term temp job in Midtown. I worked consistently while with this agency, and that was in part due to persistence. As in life, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and since TempAlt has a small staff and a high volume you have to make yourself stand out. But that's not hard: call them twice a day, don't be picky, and give it your best when you get a gig. Yesterday, I accepted an excellent permanent offer at what started as a temp job that I got through TempAlt. Don't waste time with another agency. I applied to a few temp agencies after moving to New York, but Temporary Alternatives was the most helpful. Even after I stopped contacting Regis daily, he continued to look for a position for me, ultimately getting me an interview for a great contract. I would definitely use TempAlt again if needed. Unlike other places, they respond to your phone calls and e-mails, usually within the hour and ask job seekers to contact them on a daily basis. After wasting six months with other agencies, I met with Regis. Two days later I was on my first temp assignment, with an interview lined up for temp to perm position. I have to say that my search for a job has only begun and I don't have any interviews or opportunities yet however I have to say that TA, in particular Regis have been wonderful in their response. They have been the only agency that see applicants as soon as you send on your resume and then ask you to arrive to see them between 10am - 2pm. I have found them to be so helpful as through my search of many otehr agencies that I have registered with, emailed and called, they have either not got back to me or else said to call in a couple of days to talk to a recruiter or their policy is appointment only, probably because they are so busy so the name of the game is persistence, so how comes TA can do it?! I know this is a waiting game as you can't expect to get immediate results as matching employee to employer takes time for the right opportunity to come up or you just have to be there at the right time, right place. So I'm hopeful but all this week, everyone I've spoken to on the phone and met at TA have been polite and whenever I email Regis, he is such a star he gets back to me with a little humor, which is much needed on this search : ) So I'm going to stick with them regardless if I'm placed elsewhere. These people have some kind of employment magic. I ha been unemployed for five months, got desperate, and turned to temp agencies. I'm your usual secretary/bookkeeper type. I used that TimeOutNY list of temp agencies floating around. I applied to all, and this one was one of three that brought me in for a meeting. They managed to place me for a short term assignment over the Christmas Holidays on the day I walked in to meet with them. I didn't even have time to take those ProveIt tests before they'd found something for me. When that ended on January 13, they got me a new temp-to-perm job by the 17th. DO call every day to tell them you're available. They place the people who pester them. But I would absolutely use them again. ETA: The temp-to-perm job made me an offer after two weeks, and I am now working full time, with generous benefits, making more than I ever have before. I couldn't be happier. read more

WHERE are the jobs? I've called this place regularly, sometimes twice a day (which shouldn't even be necessary). No assignments come up, after weeks of this. How long is this supposed to go on anyway, months, a year? Every time I'm asked for a phone number that's never going to be called. My contact info should be accessible already. After great test scores and Regis' insistence on my wonderful qualifications, the whole experience is a terribly unfunny joke. I don't need his compliments, I need to work. You can't seriously expect me to believe that NOTHING fitting my experience has come to the agency's attention in all this time. I'd say the review revealing payroll issues is even more alarming, but at least that person was given work to have payroll issues about! Typical, a staffing business that doesn't regard you anywhere near as well as you would represent them on an assignment. read more

I cannot say enough fabulous words about Phil and Regis at Temp Alternatives!!! They are seriously life-savers. (I have also met many people at the companies I have worked at that were referred by Phil or Regis and they have said the same thing). I had tried maaaany temp agencies in the city and was completely broke and jobless when I was referred to Phil. Within a DAY, I had a job and it was more well-paid than any temp job I had ever had. My schedule kept changing and I would update the guys with my availability and they would find me something new usually within a day. (This happened over 20 times). They have kept me employed, kept me laughing, and kept me paid. Throughout my time working with Temp Alternatives, I have felt supported and encouraged, and the guys were always 100% honest with me. There is seriously no other temp agency in New York that matches their skill and commitment. My experience was also in the midst of the recession, and yet I managed to make a better salary than I had been making at a full-time permanent job BEFORE the recession. Moving to NYC, naturally I yelp all things. Finding a temp agency was no exception. Moving here and looking for a job immediately can be challenging to anyone. Connections or not. While waiting for other possibilities to heat up, I wanted some PT or temp work to get me through. The staff at Temp Alternatives are straight to the point and will let you know what it is when it comes to your resume, clothing, etc. Regis always responded to my emails and is always so encouraging. It's refreshing for a recruiter to do that in a city like NYC. Their clients are usually banks and real estate agencies. Although I worked with a client from hell, Regis was really on my side and always responded to my emails with encouragement and kind words, with "you're a natural", or "I think if you keep at it you'll be hired FT at so and so." So although you may not get top notch clients or work from them. I'm sure with their efforts something right will come along. Following my other Yelpers advice, I was extremely proactive with my efforts at Temp Alternatives. Like they said, you have to show Regis and Phil you are available for work. They even encourage you to annoy them! There is definitely humor in the office, which can help those that are stressed looking for employment. After a week of following up with Regis daily, I did the routine wait at 830 am to see if any on-call assignments were possible. Although nothing came about, Regis got me an interview that day for a PT job, which is perfect for me because Regis knew I wanted time to pursue other careers. read more

Regis is the bomb (and Phil too, but I worked with Regis more). This agency is by far, the most straightforward, honest and efficient one I have come across. They treat you with respect, and value your skills/ education, which helps them match you with position that are suitable for you. I also like that they are straightforward when they don't have jobs available, but call you as soon as they do. Out of all the shady temp agencies out there, this is probably the one I would recommend the most, because of the people that work there and their honest attitude towards workers. Regis is the man. Twice now, I've gone in to TempAlt for a job, and both times he has gotten me placed within a week of me telling him I was available. Both jobs have been long term, stable employment. He is also really responsive and helpful. He is pretty good at taking calls, even though he has a crazy volume to deal with all day. The rest of the staff at TempAlt is really good too. I don't write a lot of Yelp reviews, but its worth it to promote Regis and this company. read more
